AN: Hey guys, here with an update. Not a long one cause I felt the action I had planned would make this longer then I wanted, but next one will have action for sure. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Helluva Boss. Spiroz, Milton, and Mitzy belong to artist DanyDraws whose permission I have to use their characters. Hedwig and her brothers belong to me though.
The moment Spiroz heard Hedwig's voice, his eyes widened in shock. He shot himself up and watched in horror as his best friend got the cybernetic demon's attention and quickly started shooting at her. He nearly had a heart attack and screamed her name before she ducked for cover.
"Hedwig!" Spiroz shouted in terror, which got the other's attention.
"Wait, Hedwig's here?" Mitzy asked in surprise.
"Yeah! And now the...demons are..." Spiroz paused as his eyes widened before he zipped his head towards Mitzy in shock. "How do you know about Hedwig?!"
Milton moaned and smacked his sister on the head. "Nice going, Sis. Want any other secrets to blab about while you're at it."
"I know you still sleep with a John Cena doll in your bed," Mitzy replied with a grin that made Milton smack her again, but this time harder.
"Wait, you knew?! All of you?!" Spiroz asked as he turned to his big sister, who winced. Growling, Spiroz shouted, "Have you three been stalking us?!"
"I prefer the term following, but that's the least of our worries!" Loona said as she grabbed her brother and rushed to the nearest wall. "Right now! We need to get out of here!"
"No! I won't leave Hedwig! She needs me!" Spiroz shouted, pulling away from his big sister. "Besides, I doubt we'll be able to leave anyway! Those guys out there are professional assassins! No doubt they already cut off our means of portaling back home! We can't leave!"
"Well, we can't stay here and wait to get killed! We're kinda in between a rock and a hard place here!" Loona pointed out
"Um, are those other angels out there with Hedwig?" Milton asked as the group looked outside to see older-looking owl demons who looked very similar to each other, protecting Hedwig with energy shields.
"Those must be her brothers, Elrohir and Elladan," Spiroz reasoned.
"Wait, as in the Lord of the Rings elf twins?" Loona asked in surprise. "Do angels name their children after characters in books or something?"
"I'm surprised you even read Lord of the Rings," Miltzy said in awe. "I thought that was way above your reading level."
"Just because I dress up as a goth and listen to hardcore metal doesn't mean I can't read classic literature, dumbass," Loona growled.
"Um, if I can divert our conversation from books to the fact that we're stuck in a warzone and need to focus on getting out of here, please?" Milton pointed out.
"What about calling for help back home?" Mitzy asked.
Loona took out her cell and started calling. However, all she got was static. "Damnit, they blocked our communications to Hell as well."
Spiroz then checked his phone and tried to text Hedwig, and, to his surprise, it got through. This gave him an idea. "Look, I have a plan! We need to meet up with Hedwig and her brothers somewhere! All of us are in danger, so it makes sense to team up!"
"You want us to work with angels?!" Loona asked in disbelief.
"Yes, and unless you want to end up six feet under, we're going to do what I say because I'm already pissed enough that you three have been stalking me! I'm not losing my family or my best friend and her family out of some stupid rivalry between our home realms, so please just listen to me for once, shut the fuck up, and let's do this!" Spiroz shouted while his eyes, unbeknownst to him, started glowing dark blue with a hint of black around the edges which made the three back up a bit in shock.
"Woah," Mitzy said in shock.
Taking a deep breath, Spiroz started typing into his phone and said, "Please, trust me. Let's meet at the Old Navy. It's far enough for us to plan without being spotted."
"...Fine, I guess we got no other choice," Loona said with a growl as she spotted a nearby employee exit, kicked it open, and saw that it led to a hallway with connections to nearby other backrooms of the store. "Let's go! I'll take point!"
After finishing his last text, Spiroz followed his big sister with the imp twins as fast as they could.
In hindsight, shouting out loud the name of a demon you weren't supposed to know while getting the attention of a bunch of heavily armed cybernetic demons was not a smart move. Hedwig only realized the consequences of her actions too late when the entire group of cybernetic demons turned to hear and looked stunned for a second to see an angel among them. However, that quickly was replaced with an order to open fire on her, and she ducked behind a nearby water fountain to avoid getting her head blown off. Lowering her head as much as possible, Hedwig winced as the gunfire started breaking apart her means of defense. Hedwig winced as bits of rumble and water splashed onto her face, and she wondered how she would get out of this. That is until there was a cry in Enochian, and two energy shields, one red and blue, appeared in front of the fountain.
Looking up, Hedwig was relieved to see her brothers flying towards her with their hands covered in their respective aura colors as they grit their teeth to focus on the gunfire they were blocking. "T-Thanks!"
"What in Christ's name were you thinking?!" Elladan shouted while glaring at her. Hedwig winced as she knew her elder brother was in the right to yell at her over her actions. "You could have been killed!"
"S-S-Sorry! I just-" Hedwig tried to say something, but her phone then alerted her of a text and she looked at it.
-Are you okay?!
Sighing in relief, Hedwig texted back:
-Yeah, I'm fine. Bros saved me.
-Thanks for the distraction! Meet us at the Old Navy!
Putting it away, Hedwig shouted, "We need to get to Old Navy!"
"This is hardly the time to go jeans shopping!" Elrohir shouted as he turned his hand to the side. "We're getting out of here right now!"
Elrohir whispered the right words to summon a portal back to Heaven, but to his shock, nothing appeared. He tried again, and the same result happened. He growled before refocusing on the shield. "Never mind. It looks like we're stuck here."
"Look! We need to get to the Old Navy! I promise we'll be safe there!" Hedwig begged her brothers. She knew it was a risk bringing them to meet Spiroz and his family, but they had a better chance of survival working together. Guess the secret's going to be out. I really hope they don't ask for something serious to keep this a secret. Last time I had to clean their clothing for a year! Ugh, I don't want to touch my brother's underwear again! I'd rather bathe in acid!
The twins looked at each other before sighing. "Alright, but I hope you know what you're doing."
The twins focused their energy as their eyes began to glow white. The shields they were using were getting thicker and pulsing with lightning in addition to the more power their users were giving them. They soon started to look like full-on walls of red and blue energy, which made the demons pause in their shooting with stances of surprise emitting from their bodies.
With a combined roar, the two sent out their shields as if they were fired from a giant gun. One of the cybernetic demons shouted at the group to take cover, but it was too late as they were hit by the shields and blown away. Many smashed into walls, benched, or other furniture in the way of their blowback. Others went sailing into a few nearby stores. Hedwig was sure a few of them had to have broken their necks, but this was no time to focus on that. Spreading her wings, she and her brothers headed to the west end of the mall as fast as they could while the demonic assassins tried to recover themselves.
It took about twenty minutes for the demon assassins to re-organize themselves. A number of them had broken bones or necks that had left them in agony or already dead. Their comrades ended those useless to them by shooting them in the head, as was their organization's custom when dealing with dead weight. Despite now only being ten, they were determined to continue.
One of the cybernetic demons, being different due to a purple armband on his right arm, spoke on his radio. "Command, this is Lendric. We just ran into a group of angels."
"Say that again, Lendric? Angels?" The voice on the microphone stated.
"Affirmative. They aren't exorcists, but they seem military trained. They took out four of our guys and injured the four others," Lendric stated. "We had to put them down."
"Understood. And the target?"
Lendric looked at the music store, where two comrades shook their heads. "In the wind. One of the angels distracted us. However, she called our target's name out loud. I think they know each other."
"...Interesting. We'll keep this in mind. For now, sweep across the mall. The half-breed is still your primary target, but you are to leave no witnesses. Understood?"
"Roger," Lendric stated before turning to his remaining comrades. "We're splitting up—two teams of five. See anything moving, and you shoot it. Keep in radio contact. Let's move."
The cybernetic demons all nodded and split off into their respective groups while going in opposite directions.
Spiroz didn't know why he chose Old Navy as the meeting spot, but it was far enough away from where the incident took place that he could think of heading towards that was safe. It was right next to one of the mall entrances anyway, and Spiroz hoped they could escape from there, but a magical barrier was blocking them that the assassins were using to prevent them from leaving this place. One more powerful than he could break apart with his magic. After making sure the area was clear, save for the pile of ashes that were once humans, Spiroz decided to get some answers from his sister and friends about how long they had been watching him.
He listened as they explained that Octavia confessed after Loona confronted her and heard in the conversation he had revealed the truth of his origins to Hedwig. They had been taking turns watching them ever since to make sure that the two were okay. Although he was pissed at first, he relaxed upon hearing that they were okay with him and Hedwig being friends.
"You really don't mind?" Spiroz asked as he leaned on a small table full of jeans.
"Look, I'm not the biggest fan of angels, but if she makes you happy, then I'm going to let it slide," Loona replied as she walked over to her little brother and put her paws on his shoulders. "Your happiness is everything to me, little brother. Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me."
"Us too!" Milton and Mitzy both said at the same time.
Sprioz smiled and was about to say something when he heard his name being called out and turned around. Joy filled his chest and face upon seeing Hedwig and her brothers arrive at the entrance, with the former flying towards him at top speed. The two friends hugged, and Spiroz smiled upon feeling Hedwig's warm wings wrap around him while she rested her head on his shoulders. "I was so worried! Thank God you're okay!"
"I'm glad to see you too," Spiroz said as he lifted Hedwig's eyes, gazed into those beautiful eyes, and smiled with such brightness it could light up the sky.
A cough from one of her brothers makes them turn around to their respective groups, who are all grinning at the two best friends. Realizing their situation, the two of them quickly released their hold on the other and blushed while trying to avoid each other's gaze. Rubbing her arm, Hedwig nervously smiled and turned to Spiroz's family. "Um, hi? My name is Hedwig and...Spiroz is my friend...and I know this is weird..."
"They already knew," Spiroz said with a sign of annoyance as Hedwig turned to him. "Turns out my sister and friends have been watching us for a while now. They've known about us being friends ever since the Fizzarolli incident."
"Huh, it seems that we weren't the only ones playing spy," Elladan said with amusement.
"I guess both groups are good at what they do if neither of us spotted the other while spying on our respective sibling," Elrohir suggested with a giggle.
"Truly, dear brother, we are-"
"Without a doubt-"
"In a fascinating situation," The two of them said simultaneously.
"Wait, you two bozos knew about this the entire time?!" Hedwig shouted in shock and a little fury. She then paused and blushed before pointing at them. "You were spying on Spiroz and me?!"
"Oh, come now, little sister," Elrohir chuckled. "We're your big brothers."
"We're supposed to watch over you," Elladan said before winking. "Especially for good embarrassing material to use over your head when you are older."
"Ugh! Brothers!" Hedwig shouted with her arms thrown up in the air. "Annoying. All of them!"
"Tell me about it," Mitzy said with a grin as Milton rolled his eyes. "Nice to see another pair of twins. Even if they fly high in the clouds instead of down in the dirt like us."
"Same to you, my fellow siamese sister of another realm," Both angel twins said with a dramatic bow.
"Oh, I like that! Why don't we ever do that whole 'twins saying the same thing' thing?" Mitzy asked her twin brother.
"Because I have a sane and rational mind while yours belongs in a mental asylum," Milton grumbled.
"Can we focus here?" Loona said as she got everyone's attention. "We can talk about swapping stories later. Right now, we gotta figure out how to deal with the assassins trying to kill us."
"Well, we can't call anyone outside the mall, and we cannot teleport back to Heaven. What about you guys?" Hedwig asked.
"Same thing. We can't call anyone back in Hell, and we already tried using the portal, but we're not getting a fizzle," Milton said, pointing to the magic circle they drew on the wall nearby. "Plus, they got us sealed at every exit."
"But we can still talk to each other on our phones," Spiroz pointed out as he took out his. "I was able to get in contact with Hedwig this way."
"Well, that gives us the means to talk to each other if we get separated," Loona said as she crossed her arms. "Hmm, maybe if we take out the assassins, we can find something that will break this barrier around us and allow us to get home?"
"You want us to take on a bunch of highly trained assassins with huge guns?" Milton asked in disbelief. "Loona, I know we're all the children of assassins ourselves, but this might be above our league here."
"Look, I'm not saying you have to get involved. I can take care of most of them," Loona said with a smirk. "Remember, you're talking to the girl who helped take down an entire government organization with your parents."
"And we're not just any angels ourselves," Elladan said with pride as he and his brother put their arms around each other. "We're in the military and know how to defend ourselves. Exterminating a few demons will be no problem."
"No offense," Elladan said.
"None taken," the demons all said.
"Alright, but how are we going to find out where these guys are?" Hedwig asked.
"The security cameras for the mall should still be working," Spiroz said with a smile. "We can use those to keep an eye out for them."
"Might give us an edge to plan out ambushes and take them down before they know we're upon them," Loona pointed out before nodding in agreement. "Alright, any idea where we can find the security section?"
"Look for one of the mall maps. They should have a section on where to find it," Hedwig suggested.
After checking to see if there were any assassins around them, the group rushed to the nearest mall map and looked at it before Spiroz pointed to the right side of the screen. "Here we go! It's quite a distance away."
"We shouldn't all go. We'd stick out like a sore thumb," Loona said. She turned the group with narrow eyes. "We should split up. Some of us heading one direction, the other another direction, and then the rest to the security section."
"Okay, since Loona and my brothers are the most experienced at killing demons, I think they should be in a group," Hedwig suggested before scratching her chin. "So, who goes with who and where?"
"You should head to the security room, Hedwig," Spiroz said with a serious tone as she turned to him in surprise. "No offense, but out of all of us here, you are the least experienced in some form of combat or physical prowless."
"I'm not that bad," Hedwig stated.
"You couldn't even do ten push-ups in your gym class," her brothers stated, making her blush and puff out her cheeks.
"Fine, but don't get killed," Hedwig sighed as she looked at everyone. "All of you."
"You only just met us," Mitzy pointed out.
"Yeah, but you're Spiro's family," Hedwig said with a warm smile, "and I don't want to see my best friend cry."
"...Heh, you know what? You're okay, Hedwig," Loona replied with a grin. "Okay, Spiro, you're with Milton and me. Mitzy? You go with one of the two other twins."
Said twins looked at each other before nodding their hands. "Rock! Paper! Scissors! Shoot!"
"Ha! Rock beats scissors!" Elladan said with a grin. "You go with Hedwig."
"Very well. Shall we head out, little sis?" Elrohir said with a bow as he and Hedwig spread their wings.
Hedwig then paused and quickly rushed over to Spiro and hugged him as tight as she could, which made him blush even redder than his fur and feathers were naturally. The others saw this and couldn't help but grin at the sight, yet the Imp-Goetia didn't care. He soon wrapped his arms around his best friend and hugged her back. "Be safe?"
"I will, you too," Spiro whispered as she gave him a quick head bump before joining her brother in the air before they took off.
"Come on, lover bird," Loona replied with a grin much to Sprio's grumbling. "Let's get moving before you miss your girlfriend too much."
"She's not my girlfriend," Spiro whispered before following his sister with Milton.
Mitzy then looked at Elladan and asked with a grin. "So before we begin. Close range or long range?"
"Oh, I prefer to use these," Elladan said with a grin as he lifted his hands and revealed two pure white angelic steel Colt 1911s with increased muzzle size and laser sights. "You?"
"Nice classics," Mitzy said before pulling out her G18 automatic pistols with extended clips and modified grips for dealing with recoil. "I prefer a bit more automatic."
"I think we're going to get along just fine," Elladan said as both grinned excitedly before rushing off with their guns locked and loaded.
