Chapter Two
The next morning Siria woke to the sounds of the busy campsite. Pots clanking and the infectious giggles of children playing flowed into the window as she rubbed sleep from her eyes and tried to focus on the wall in front of her. At least someone was happy she thought, but then stopped when she noticed someone in the room. She was a young girl and had dark brown hair with blonde streaks that was plaited into two long braids. The girl looked curiously at Siria as she tried to pretend not see the girl. Finally unable to ignore her any longer Siria turned and stared straight at the girl. "What's your name?"
"M—Mouse"
"What do you want Mouse?"
"N—Nothing" She looked around hesitant of what to say next. Then both heard someone yell Mouse's name from outside the window. Recognizing the voice Mouse rushed into a large chest and closed her self in. Siria could hear the pounding of footsteps in the next room. Aravinda burst into the room and looking around quickly noticed that Siria was awake. "You're finally awake."
"I didn't know I needed to be up at a certain time."
"We're not blessed with electricity; we work by sunlight mostly." Siria looked at Aravinda awkwardly as she finished. "Well, get ready I have a lot of things I have to show you." Aravinda turned to leave the room, but then stopped. Turning back she walked softly to the chest and leaning down gently placed her hand on the lid. Then In one sudden movement she pulled the chest open. "I FOUND YOU MOUSE!"
"NO, I'm not going. I'm gonna tell Lev. You'll pay!"
"Oh Yeah? You're gonna pay for that bird CRAP left in my BED!" With one swift tug Aravinda lifted a kicking and screaming Mouse out of the chest and dragging her across the room pushed her out the door. "Now go join the others so we can do the chores!" Mouse turned sticking her tongue out at Aravinda. "GO!" Mouse scurried away, but just before leaving Aravinda turned back to Siria. "You have five minutes." With that she left the room. Siria rolled her eyes and laid back down.
When Aravinda returned to the room she found it empty. She cursed under her breathe and went in search of Hawk. Some where else Siria stood near a creek. In her hands she held some pebbles. She shifted them from hand to hand staring mesmerized at the steady current that flowed past her. She actually accepted the fact that of having Jay's baby and him not knowing. In an afternoon she had planned exactly what she was going to say. She would have told them it was Mega's begged them to except it. She would have given a great performance. Siria stopped she could have just imagined the look on Jay's face. The pure hurt he would have felt.
"Hey!"
Siria quickly turned wiping the tears away from her eyes with her wrist. She was met by a pair of dark blue eyes. "You really shouldn't be around here."
"I—I'm sorry; I didn't know."
He smiled. "You're Amber's friend from the city. I'm Lev." He held out his hand for Siria to shake. She looked at it; she was still holding the pebbles. Lev stared at her awkwardly and eased his hand away. "You probably want to be alone, but I suggest you get away from here before Aravinda finds you." With that he walked away leaving Siria standing dumbfounded.
