Chapter Eleven

That evening the three of them sat around the campfire. The rain had made the ground wet and hard to walk on. By the time they had reached the site most were heading off to bed. Aravinda had whipped together something quick and easy for them to eat and they sat thinking of the new change. Aravinda asked herself what had gone wrong. Lev wondered if the decision was final. But Siria hoped she hadn't moved to quickly and contemplated on how Amber really felt about Jay. Was she sat up? No, it was Ram who had said it, and in the time she had known him he hadn't lied to her. He told her things she didn't want to hear but he never lied. "Now that you're a Gaian what are you going to do?" Aravinda asked.
"What is there to do?"
"Anything you want," Lev smiled, "watcher, hunter, gatherer, cook, weaver, anything."
"I'm not patient enough for a watcher or a hunter. I don't trust myself to gather the right thing, cook...maybe, weaver no way." Siria grinned.
"Cook, you don't want to do that; everyone is too ungrateful and selfish to cook for." Aravinda spurted.
Lev leaned toward Siria. "She used to be the cook." Siria smiled nodding in understanding. "Aravinda you know what would be good for Siria?"
"What Lev?" Aravinda sighed expecting to be the butt of another joke.
"Babysitter, you know how you're always complaining about those guys not having someone steady to watch them. I bet Siria could do it."
"That would be great except...I do that!"
"Give it up for something better...you know you miss the kitchens."
"No."
"Now is that anyway to treat a new member?"
Aravinda hesitated. "Well no, but it's my job."
"And Siria should have it," Lev looked at Siria, "she'd be good at it."
"FINE" Grabbing their plates, Aravinda walked off in frustration.
Siria watched her walk away. "Is she going to be ok?"
"She'll be fine; she just has to put up a fight for everything."
Siria nodded. "I see what you mean, but is it really necessary; I could do something else."
"It's fine, don't worry about it she doesn't like the job anyway."
"I guess." Siria sighed. She was sitting so close to him and yet he hadn't bothered to bring up the night before. It was almost like it never happened. "I better get to bed." She got up to leave.
"No wait" He grabbed her hand holding her back. "I have something to tell you now that you're apart of my tribe."
"She sat back down next to him. "What is it?"
"I really thing you're pretty." He gave a smile giving his phrase a playful affect.
Siria pulled her hand away from him and pushed a non-existent braid from her face. "Uh—thanks, but Lev there's something I must tell you." She spoke in a sympathetic tone.
"Yeah" He looked concern.
She smiled. "I think you're weird." Getting up she walked away.
He watched her as she disappeared. Once she was gone he turned back to the dimming fire only to find Aravinda standing in front of him. "What's your problem?"
"Nothing gees Ara you scared me."
"You'll be more then scared of me, if you treat her like every other girl around."
"What makes you think she's every other girl?"
"Oh I don't know maybe 'I think you're pretty' had something to do with it."
"We'll since you were being nosy you also notice she didn't fall for it." He smirked.
Aravinda crossed her arms. "Well thank goodness for that one."
"Come give me some credit. I have changed."
Aravinda sighed. "I know that but some days...I just don't see it." She sat down. "Just promise me you won't hurt her like the last guy did or like you did to me."
"Last guy..."
"Lev—"
"Oh, I promise, I promise I won't hurt her." He said still wondering what she meant by the last guy.
