Chapter Fourteen
A few days had passed since Siria's run in with Lev and each day he came to spend more time with her. One evening they booth sat a bit away from the others over dinner. Things were completely innocent, laughing and joking, when Aravinda approached with a guy. Sighing Siria elbowed Lev. "Here he comes."
"Who?"
"Him...Aravinda wants me to meet this guy she ran into."
"Don't worry I'll stick around."
"Thanks," Siria smiled wanting to kiss him.
Just then Aravinda came close enough to talk. "Hey, you two I wanted you to meet someone." She turned to the others. "Devin, this is Lev and Siria. Guys, Devin." Aravinda seemed extremely pleased with herself once she finished.
"Hey," Lev greeted.
"Hey," Devin said more to Siria then Lev.
Siria looked at him confident. "Hey."
Devin made himself comfortable on the other side of Siria while Aravinda sat next to Lev. Aravinda worked at building a conversation between Siria and Devin which Devin seemed to be working toward as well. After sometime Aravinda poked Lev. "I need to ask you something."
"What?"
"It's personal, can we go somewhere?"
Lev looked hesitantly at Siria as Devin continued to ask her questions. Something about him wasn't right. Lev turned back to Aravinda who was giving him an urging look. He finally shrugged getting up with Aravinda. Siria had noticed Lev walking away and did her best to brave the conversation when Devin asked, "There's this flower I saw near here that looks great by moonlight that you might like."
Siria wasn't stupid; she knew what he wanted. But she also noticed that he was sincere and the excited tone in he's voice made her think there could possibly be a flower. So this and the fact that there wasn't much else to do she said yes. They walked further and further from the campsite till the glow of the fire was gone. She stood quietly next to Devin waiting to be shown the flower. Then turning he said, "Do you know how stupid you are?"
Back at the camp Lev stood next to Aravinda as she stalled and asked stupid questions. "Aravinda, what's going on?"
"Huh? Oh couldn't you see how well they were getting along?"
"Umm no, frankly I don't think she was very interested."
"What do you know?" She said sarcastically.
Lev started to walk off. "I'm going to go see how she's doing."
Aravinda crossed her arms. "I can't believe you."
"Then don't," Lev said calmly walking back to where Siria and Devin were supposed to be sitting. When he came Lev noticed that both of them were gone. Lev quickly asked one of the girls near by if she had seen them walk off somewhere. She pointed in the direction of the woods. This didn't look good. Lev thought Devin was shifty. He ran in the direction the girl pointed and used the scattered moonlight to find the clearing he knew was near by. He wasn't surprised when he came and heard Siria's voice. "Who are you really Devin?"
"That's something you don't need to worry about."
"Well I'm not going anywhere with you; I don't want to leave the Gaians."
"I'm giving you a chance to come willingly." Devin's tone was suddenly harsh as he grabbed her arm.
"OW! Devin let me go; I'm not going with you."
"He wants you!"
"Who, Devin please?" Siria pleaded.
Hearing this Lev walked over. "Hey, what's up here? I heard yelling."
"None of your business, this is between us."
"Well she doesn't look very happy. Why don't you let go of her arm."
Devin let go of Siria's arm half jerking her. Siria could see Lev in the moonlight; he had tensed up and was making a fist with his right hand. Siria walked to stand next to him. "Lev, I'm fine, can we go now?"
Lev didn't look at Siria. "No, not yet; Devin you stay away from this camp. I don't want to see you any where near this place or Siria."
Devin chuckled. "You can't stop him from getting what he wants. He'll take the little bitch if he wants her."
"That's it!" Lev moved toward Devin fist first landing square in he's face. Devin backed up a bit but soon returned the swing. Lev ducked and tackled Devin to the ground. Siria moved back slightly staring as the two went at it. She wanted to run back to camp but didn't want to leave Lev behind. She screamed for help but no one answered. She searched for the glow of the campfire but couldn't find it. Then in the ray of moonlight Siria saw someone. He had long blue dreads and his eyes had an eerie glow. Before Siria could say anything, he smirked and fell away from the moonlight and back into the dark.
Siria turned back to the two fighting. Lev was landing punches into Devin who was unconscious; Siria ran over. "Lev; Lev, stop it! Leave him here." Lev stopped looking up at Siria. She was beginning to cry. "Lev I want to go home."
Lev stood staring down at Devin. He glanced at his hands, his knuckles bleed from all the punches and his lip was cut from when Devin had managed to get him. He turned to Siria. "I'm sorry."
She pulled at his arm. "I don't care; I just want to go!" They walked back to camp.
Devin squirmed slightly on the ground moaning in pain. The guy in blue dreads approached Devin with two girls behind him: one had long straight platinum blonde hair and the other a mass of black curls. Both had the same eerie eyes as the guy. He looked at Devin with disgust. "You failed him Devin, You know what that means?"
"No!" Devin pleaded while he choked on his own blood.
They guy turned to the girl with blonde hair. "Kill him."
There was fear in the girls glowing eyes. "Don't make her do it." The dark haired girls said.
"Shut up Jeannette!" The guy turned back to the platinum blonde. "Nuray, do it, or suffer the same fate." He handed her an umbrella rod with the duck handle. The girl, Nuray, looked at it and taking it in her hands glanced at Jeannette, who nodded. Nuray stepped in front of the guy to stand over Devin. With the rod in both hands she pulled it high above her head and then with a deep breath she jammed into Devin who let out a pain ridden scream. He moved slightly and Nuray twisted the rod gasp of pain coming from him until with a final twist he was silent. The three stared at the lifeless body to see if it would move any more. "Let's go." The guy announced calmly.
"What about the girl?" Jeannette asked.
"We know where she is. Besides the election is won, he can come and get her at any time. Come on back to head quarters." The two girls followed as they walked in the general direction of the City.
And you'll never think of those cute little ducky umbrellas the same way again....personally I never liked them.
