Chapter Seventeen
Early the next morning Siria was standing over Aravinda's sleeping body trying to shake her awake. "Will you wake up you snoring cow?!"
Aravinda looked up at Siria. "No need for name calling. It's not my ex who showed up in the middle of the night."
"Yeah but have you been introduced as someone else's fiancée?"
Aravinda sat up. "He finally did it. Lev asked you to marry him?"
Siria nodded turning her head and giving Aravinda a better look at the earrings.
Aravinda touched them to see if they were real. They were. "Beautiful; I'm maid of honor right?"
"Only if you can get me alone with Jay"
"Easy peasy..."
"Not with Ebony dragging along as his guard dog."
"What does she have the hot's for him, or something?"
"No, last time I checked she was with Slade, no, Ebony likes a focused happy lieutenant running her militia, and I know I'm getting on her nerves."
"You know I don't get along with dogs, right?"
Siria smirked. "Yeah but you'll do it; I'll even let your dress be green."
Aravinda's eyes sparkled. "Do I get flowers in my hair?"
"Do I get thirty minutes?"
"You can have an hour."
"Done," Siria sighed. Now she only needed to think of what to say.
Later that morning as everyone was working Siria was in the Storage Cabin folding away some blankets for when they were needed. She didn't hear the coming footstep but she did hear voices and quickly moved out of sight behind some baskets.
"Jay, she isn't worth it; stop beating yourself up about it."
"We should have never been separated; we should have talked things out."
"Well the past is the past, just...forget about her."
"Is it really that easy Amber?"
"Stop questioning, I'm trying to help." Amber sighed. "What did Asha want again?"
"Blankets, I think."
"They should be over there." She pointed in the direction of the baskets.
Siria heard his foot steps then looking up she saw he was standing over her. She snapped her eyes closed hoping he wouldn't see her. Siria didn't open her eyes again until she heard Jay say, "Here, you can take these to Asha, I'm going to rest before the meeting."
Amber took the blankets hoisting them on her hip. "Oh, then see ya later Jay, and please remember what I said." A smile curled across her lips, whether it was seductive or caring he couldn't tell.
After a moment Siria sighed and moved from behind the baskets only to be greeted by Jay who was standing near the door. "Hello Siria."
"Hello...Jay."
Jay didn't waste time, and Siria didn't want him to. "You and Lev, really?"
"Yes, um...you and Amber?"
He gave her an awkward look. "No, We got close working on the campaign."
"Oh, oh silly me." She tried to give a smile but it wouldn't come.
There was a silence that Jay finally broke. "Well, I just wanted to say congratulations on your wedding." He managed to smile then before she could say anything he walked away, taking her only chance to say what she felt as quickly as it came.
