She sat at the small table, sipping her cappuccino, and looked at the person sitting across from her. He had messy blonde hair, which he had tried to fix for their date, but only succeeded in making it messier. He was wearing a white t-shirt, with a green, button-up shirt thrown over it like a jacket. It was a little casual, but it wasn't like she was in an evening gown. She was in a white, strapless blouse, with her purple vest over it. She had a black choker necklace, and small, hoop earrings to compliment her outfit.
She was a bit shocked when he had called her and asked her for a date, but she knew she shouldn't have been. After all, today was the 14th of February, Valentine's Day. She had several offers for dates tonight, but she decided to go out with him. But, she wasn't sure what she saw in him...
My funny Valentine
Sweet comic
Valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Maybe
it was his aloof nature, the way he takes everything in stride. He's
always laid back, yet, he keeps his friends close, and she knew she
was glad to be counted among them. She had admired him for what he
did in Duelist Kingdom, how he was fighting for his sister, and, when
she was dueling Marik, it was his friendship that was able to break
Marik's spell and help her to regain her memories.
Your looks are
laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art
He flashed that big, doofy grin of his, and she couldn't help but smile back. She had to admit, he WAS good looking, even if he had no fashion sense.
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is
your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak
Are you
smart?
There was that big mouth of his, how it was always getting him in trouble. But he had the confidence to back up his challenges, and the determination to stick with them, even if he was in over his head.
But
don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay, little
Valentine, stay
Each day is Valentine's day
"It's getting late," he said. "Would you like me to walk you home?"
"I'd like that very much," she replied.
They walked together in silence, each one just enjoying the other's company.
When they finally reached her house, they just stood on her porch for a while. Finaly, she broke the silence.
"Thank you for the lovely evening, Joseph. I had a wonderful time."
She turned to open her door, a bit disappointed that nothing more had happened. Maybe he just liked her as a friend. Even if that was the case, though, she was still happy to be with him.
Suddenly, she felt him take her hand. Startled, she turned around.
"Mai Valentine, would you be my Valentine?" He chuckled a little at the play on words.
Her spirits were lifted.
"Of course I will."
With that, he pulled her into a warm embrace, and they shared their first, passionate kiss.

A/N: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh! or the song "My Funny Valentine". That song was originally sung by Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald.
