Chapter 3
My memory's still had not come back. But I was happy. Inuyasha and the others had been very good to me. After a few days in the village, we took our leave and traveled off into the wood's. A week passed with us traveling all over the place. One day we were all resting in our campsite when Inuyasha stood up suddenly, and began to sniff the air.
"What's wrong?" Miroku asked anxiously
"I smell Naraku." Inuyasha stated. "We had better go check it out." He turned to me. " You had better stay here." I nodded even though I had no idea what he was talking about. Kagome spoke up. " I'll stay here with her." Inuyasha looked at the others. " Come on lets go." They followed him into the woods and disappeared from sight.
I turned to Kagome. " Who is Naraku?"
" He's the whole reason we are out here." She said.
" But why are you searching for him?"
" Well for one thing he has most of the jewel shards. But he also has hurt many of us."
" In what way?" I questioned.
Kagome sighed. " Well, he turned Inuyasha and the woman he loves against each other. He gave Miroku g a hole in his hand that eventually will swallow up his entire being unless he kills Naraku. Sango's brother was possessed by Naraku, and killed his father and many of his fellow villagers. Naraku also slaughtered Sango's entire village, and then tricked Sango into thinking that it was Inuyasha who did it. So you see, we all want to find Naraku."
I would have never thought that these people had been hiding so much pain. And was all caused by one person.

About an hour later Inuyasha and the others walked into the camp. " What happened?" Kagome asked anxious. " It was a puppet." Miroku said.
" I am getting so tired of this!" Inuyasha yelled. " Every time we finely find Naraku, its an incarnation or one of his puppets.!"
Sango nodded. " At the rate we are going we will never find Naraku." Everyone was clearly discouraged.

That night I had my dream again. It was just as realistic as the last time. It really disturbed me, and I couldn't go back to sleep. So I went walking in the forest that surrounded our campsite. As I was walking my mind turned back to what Kagome had told me. Naraku, for some reason that name sounded so familiar, but I couldn't of why. It was the first thing that I could even vaguely recall. That exited me, maybe this was the key that would unlock the secrets of my past. But did I really want to know my past if it involved someone as evil as Naraku?
I walked into a clearing. A stream ran through it. The moonlight shined on the water. It was a beautiful place. As I stood there taking it all in, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned. Sango was sitting on the ground a few feet away, her back up against a tree. Her eyes were closed, but her irregular breathing told me that she wasn't asleep.
"Sango?" I whispered. Her eyes snapped open.
" What are you doing here?" She asked, almost like I had invaded her personnel space.
" Sorry." I said sheepishly. " I couldn't sleep, so I went walking."
" You really should be careful." She replied. " You never know what type of monsters could be out."
" Yeah, I know." Sango looked at me and sighed. " You don't know how to fight do you?" She said.
" I might have learned before, but I don't remember anything." I replied.
Sango nodded. " How about I give you some lessons tomorrow? With us fighting Naraku all the time, it would be good if you knew how to defend yourself."
" Okay, we can do that." I turned to walk away, then hesitated. I turned back to Sango. " Kagome told me about everything Naraku did to you. I'm really sorry." Sango shook her head. " Don't be. We all have bad things happen in our lives."
"Yeah, I know but loosing your entire village and still having your brother under Naraku's control would be really hard." I said trying to be sympathetic.
She gave me a sad smile. " Even if Kohaku was returned to me, he still killed his father and fellow villagers. That would be on his conscience for the rest of his life. Plus the jewel shard in his back is the only thing keeping him alive. So you see there is not much hope for him." She smiled as if to reassure me. But I could see that it was all an act. This was tearing her up inside. She was hiding so much pain. I wanted to help her, but what could I do? So I just smiled sadly back at her.

The next day Sango was acting like nothing had happened the night before. She was cheerful and acting normal. The first thing she did was come up and ask me if I was ready to begin.
"Begin what?" Inuyasha asked.
"I told Katsu that I would teach her how to fight." Sango explained.
" Good." Inuyasha said. " I don't want you to slow us down." I knew that Inuyasha didn't really mean that, but his words hurt me. I remembered the day before when I had to stay behind while the others went to fight Naraku. I was slowing them down, and with all the kindness they had showed to me, that was the last thing I wanted to do.
As soon as Sango and I got away from the rest of the group, she put a comforting arm around my shoulders. " You know Inuyasha is just rude." She said. " Your not a burden to us."
I smiled at her. " I guess your right. Thanks Sango. I don't know how I will ever pay all of you back for what you have done for me."
" Don't be ridiculous." She said. " We are glad to do what we can. Now let's begin."
I practiced all day long. I didn't seem to have much fighting skill, but Sango taught me enough to get by. I was sweaty and tired when we got to the campsite. Kagome said that Miroku and Inuyasha had gone to a nearby village to get some supply's. She went to her bag that she always carried around with her, and pulled out a comb and a mirror. Suddenly as I watched her, it struck me that I had never seen my own face before.
" Can I use that mirror for a minute?" I asked eagerly. Kagome looked confused for a second, then her face lit up.
" You don't know what you look like do you?" She said excitedly. " I didn't think of that." She quickly handed me the mirror. I looked into it. Staring back at me was a girl about Twenty. She had a small face with large eyes. They were very dark, almost black in color. Straight reddish brown hair surrounded her face.
I most of looked horrified since Sango quickly asked what was wrong. I shook my head and said I was fine. They couldn't understand how it felt to look at your own face, and not recognize yourself. The girl in the mirror could have been a complete stranger.

Something woke Sango up. She didn't know what, but she was instantly on guard. She looked around the camp. Everyone was sleeping peacefully. Everything was normal. She tried to calm herself, and laid back down. She forced her eyes closed, but something made them keep snapping open over and over again. There was something wrong. But what? Everything was fine. Everyone was in the campsit-....! Then it hit her. She lifted herself up quickly and surveyed the campsite again. Her suspicions were confirmed. Katsu was gone.
She got up and walked out of the campsite, into the woods. She looked everywhere, but couldn't find her. Sango started to get worried. She got the rest of the group up. But by morning they had still not found anything to tell them where Katsu had gone.
