Chapter 6

" It would have been a lot easier on both of us if you would have let me take control of your mind when we were fighting yesterday. I had forgotten how stubborn you are." Naraku's voice was ringing in my mind and disrupting my senses. All I could focus on was him and what his bidding was. His voice pierced into my awareness once again. " You have been wandering for a year. Now it is time for you to help me once again. Go Katsu!" Without question I turned and ran out of the castle and toward the place in the forest where my friends awaited.

I opened my eyes. Directly in front of me Inuyasha and Sango stood staring at me. "Where am I?" I asked.

" Better yet, why don't you tell us where you were?" Inuyasha snapped. " This is the second time this has happened. I'm tired of it! If you want to stay with us then you had better talk!"

Oddly I was not intimidated at all. Before I had felt timid and unsure of myself. But now I was confident. I didn't feel any fear at all. That should have been a blessing, but for some unexplainable reason it filled me with fear. I glared at Inuyasha. " Do you think that you are the only one this bothers? I disappear twice and have no memory of what happened. Don't you think that disturbs me a bit? So why don't you do the world a favor and shut up for once!"

Inuyasha and Sango both looked shocked. I even surprised myself. I hadn't meant to be so aggressive. It had just come out that way.

" You different today." Inuyasha said slowly. " I don't know why but you are." Then he turned and walked away.

" What did he mean by that Katsu?" Sango asked. " How are you different?"

" I don't know. But what he said is true. I do feel different." Sango nodded but still looked worried. I tried to be reassuring. " Its fine. I'm sure everything is just fine." I just wished that I could believe my own words. I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that something bad was going to happen.

" Come on." Sango said. " Miroku and Kagome are down by the river making dinner. Do you want to join them?"

We walked to the river. Miroku and Kagome were there like Sango had said, but Inuyasha was also there. Kagome and Miroku greeted me although Miroku's was of doing this was very different from Kagome's. After his face was permanently implanted in the ground, I helped Kagome make dinner.

After we ate the meal of some stuff called ramen, Kagome decided that she was going to go wash up in the hot spring nearby. Inuyasha and Sango were keeping a close eye on Miroku for her, and that is why they didn't see me slip out of the campsite and follow Kagome.

I can't explain why I followed her. I had no reason to do so. It was more like I had not even made the decision on my own, but at the same time there was an eerie calmness in my mind that made me not question anything. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

When I got to the hot spring Kagome was already there but she didn't see me. When I saw her a strange thing happened. Just like when we had fought Naraku, a feeling of dizziness ad nausea overwhelmed me. Except this time I didn't fight against it. The feeling spread and then it suddenly stopped, and again I felt that eerie calmness of before, but this time it was mixed with something else. Overwhelming anger an hatred, and it was all directed toward one person. I drew my sword that Sango gave me out of its sheath. I silently stepped toward Kagome until I was only a foot behind her, raised my sword into the air and brought it down.

As I swung my sword Kagome turned. That is the only reason I didn't kill her with the first blow. The sword hit her shoulder instead of her head. She screamed and within seconds Inuyasha was there followed closely by the others.

He tried to restrain me, but I fought back with more vigor then I thought I had in me. All I could think about was how I had to get another chance to kill Kagome. That was my objective.

I kept trying to get to her and Inuyasha kept holding me back. Then I heard something slicing through the air. I turned and Sango's boomerang hit me full in the chest.

I dropped to my knees drawing in raged breaths of air. As my vision blurred, I saw Inuyasha cradling Kagome in his arms, calling her name. Sango and Miroku were standing behind him with the same shocked, pain filled expression on their faces.

As I watched them all of the anger, the calmness, everything I had been feeling drained away from me, and the horror of what I had just done washed over me like a flood. It was in that moment that I realized the truth. For forty years I had been the tool of a completely evil and selfish monster.

The last thing I remembered, before everything was swallowed up in darkness, was the memory of my long, pain filled life.
