...
The apartment that they stopped at was a three story place. Given the time of night none of the lights were on. When Izuku left the car his sensitive nose was assaulted by the smells of the city. Oil and other disgusting scents filled his nose and made his fur bristle on its end.
Tobari apologized quietly, "Sorry about this. I know cities aren't really your thing. But it's necessary not to be in the middle of nowhere as you prefer."
"Doesn't mean I have to like it," muttered the immortal darkly.
Tobari snorted but led the way up to the building with Izuku close behind. His ears twitched when he heard the Fuuma car pull away. It seemed they would not be sticking around to help. That was fine with him. The less people around him the better off he was.
He followed Tobari up stone stairs that swung around to the backside of the buildings. From there he saw there were more apartments than what Izuku assumed. Still there were no lights on which was a comfort. Due to his supposed age people would assume the worst about Tobari bringing him home at such a late hour.
The apartment they were headed towards was the furthest from the street. There weren't any wall sharing neighbors. Did that have to do with him? Or was it Tobari's preference? If he remembered correctly the man had a similar facing apartment in Banten.
Tobari pulled out a set of keys and said quietly over his shoulder, "I'll get you a key to the apartment so you can come and go as needed. There is a window on the other side that will allow you to come and go that way if you wish. Just let me know if you're going to be gone for more than a day."
Izuku blinked. He had not exactly been expecting that kind of freedom. He followed Tobari inside. In the entryway they removed their shoes. The floors were made of solid wood and perfectly kept up. From the entryway they stepped out into a kitchen and living room. He was surprised at the modern feel of the room. It wasn't like his own rustic living quarters far away from human contact.
In the living room on a stand against the wall was a box like object. It was long and thin black in color. He had never seen anything like it before.
"What's that?" Izuku asked as Tobari was turning on lights.
"What's what?"
"The box thing against the wall."
Tobari gave him a confused look until he saw what Izuku was pointing at. The confusion turned to mirth making his grey eyes dance in the now light filled room.
He asked cheerfully, "Never seen a TV before?"
Izuku shook his head.
"Come on then," he beckoned as he went towards the contraption, "I'll show you. See this is a remote it allows you to turn it on, change the volume, and even what you're watching."
That small little box with buttons could do all that? Izuku gave him a dubious look. Tobari wasn't messing with him. Was he? Actually Izuku wouldn't put it past the man.
To prove his point Tobari pressed a button and the box, TV? Came to life startling Izuku and causing him to jump back hissing. Behind him his tail flicked and his ears were folded back showing the fear and agitation. It was more emotion shown than even Kotarou was able to elicit.
After a moment the thing began to make sounds of people talking. A woman was now on the screen and she was talking about something to do with the police. Izuku made a low sound in the back of his throat trying to ward off the perceived threat.
Tobari laughed as he watched him, "Izuku stop she can't see or hear you. It's a one way thing. She is just giving the news."
"Like the paper?"
Tobari stopped laughing but his eyes were still alight with his mirth, "Yes but this can be done in real time. So you're not waiting for the news for a day or more. It also tells you about other events in the world."
That was... Interesting and terrifying. He wanted to ask more questions but was uncertain about how to go about it.
Tobari then said, "I'm going back to bed but since you don't sleep much I'll put it on some cartoons. 500 year old immortal or not they should keep you entertained and not destroying the apartment."
Izuku's fur bristled at the implication that he would destroy the apartment. He was immortal not an animal. Still his attention was immediately draw to the TV changing it's picture. A childish rabbit appeared and his entire focus was on it. He didn't hear Tobari chuckle as he went off to bed.
