"When There's No One Around"
For others I put on a show
Me as a jokester is all they know
But behind this smile
Is someone who has been lonely
For quite a while
Making them laugh is all I'm good for
Will anyone ever see me as more?
For a light-hearted guy, I carry much pain
Laughing and joking only keeps me sane
But there is another
Whose emotions she seems to smother
I try to make her smile at least
But it seems that for her
Feelings have ceased
I know we could be great friends, maybe more
If in her wall she'd open a door
But perhaps I am only fooling myself...
I seem to be caught in their laughter
For now and ever after
But in my heart I cry
Will anyone understand why
There are tears of a clown
When there's no one around?
So I'll continue to put on a show
Give them all they expect and know
Laugh and play
Find corny things to say
But I can't stop
The tears of a clown
That fall from my eyes
When there's no one around
