Perhaps It Was Only a Dream

Year One
"Here- clean this newchild up and take her to the nurturer's." The attendant handed the newchild over to the attendant-in-training. "Tell George her number is three."
The attendant-in-training cradled the newchild in the light blanket that had been used to cover the nakedness of the baby. "Who is the birthmother?" She asked. She looked at the baby's unusual coloring. "She has light eyes and lighter hair than most in the Community."
The attendant looked over at the woman panting on the bed. "Edna." The attendant marked it down on her clipboard. "Don't forget, June- her number is three."
June, the attendant-to-the-birthmothers-in-training, took the little one over to the Nurturer Office. She asked the receptionist about George, who was supervising play time. June shifted Three to her other arm, and thanked the receptionist. She headed off to the play room.
"June!" A tall, slightly balding man stood up from the little seat. "Great... what number is she?"
June said, "Number Three," quickly, then handed over Three to George. Three giggled and grabbed George's thumb. He smiled down at her.
"Hello, Three-wee."
George was tempted to look at the name list for Three... he stared at the list for a few minutes, and his hand even reached out. Suddenly he dropped it and he walked away.
All too soon it was December and the ceremony was approaching. George and the other Nurturers were making sure all of the newchildren could walk, and talk. And a few weeks later, the Ceremony began.
"Number three..." Luna the nurturer carried number three up to the stage as the Elder called her. The parents were already waiting, Luna transferred Three to her new father. "Number three, Rosemary, goes to Eric and Simone." There were cheers.
Rosemary waved her fist in the air, and giggled.
A/N: Well... I've always been very interested in Rosemary's character from The Giver... and I thought I'd give her a shot. Yeah, I know this chapter is crap... but I swear it will be better! And a lot less choppy too! X3
Oh, and a little note about George: He's Jonas' father! Since he doesn't have a name, I gave him the name 'George', which is my grandfather's name.
