Moments Lost

In memory of Doctor Janet Frasier...

The world was spinning. The sky was blue. My soul was dust.

I could feel it. The glint in my eye was gone, a familiar feeling that hit me often. But the dread that usually filled my veins, with guilt and feelings of betrayal was missing, my blood was beating normally, every beat causing my heart to pull apart, that little bit further.

My nerves were raw, my eyes, puffy and read and my skin a little paler. But I could move on, I had to. It wasn't my life that depended on it. It was the others. If I gave up, they would too, and everyone standing beside her coffin would loose control, disrupting the world. Well, that's what I think anyway.

I never told her those words, the ones which I had watched her die for.

The three little words, that would have changed my destiny.

I love you

He had thought about it every day, after every mission, what if he just blurted it out? How many times had she brought him back from the near dead, only for her to hear a small thank-you? She deserved better. Perhaps, Daniel wasn't the one that deserved her at all. She needed someone strong, someone she could depend on. Not an allergic-to-everything archaeologist.

I'm sorry, Janet.

He took a deep, sad breath, and smiled sadly, remembering some of the humorous moments of her life.

As the cemetery emptied, Daniel stepped up to her coffin, placing apon it, a single red rose, with a card attached.

I'm sorry I never told you,

It was something, I think I always knew,

I love you,

Janet Frasier.

Turning to find Sg-1 behind him, he walked up to Jack and handed him a small gold band he had always carried. He had brought it a long while ago, wanting to give it the Shar'ae when he brought her home, but after she died, he kept it, knowing one day...in the future, he would have given it to Doctor Janet Frasier-Jackson.

"Don't make the same mistake." He whispered, as he walked toward the car, Teal'c following. He could feel Jack's gaze on his retreating back, but he didn't look back.

He could never look back.

As tears began to well up in his eyes, he heard Teal'c say;

"Janet Frasier was indeed a great woman."

Daniel sighed.

"Yes she was Teal'c. Yes she was..."

THE END

Author's note: Yep, my little tribute to Janet Frasier, a woman who I don't think, deserved to die.

--"Who put her in charge?"

"The US Air force."--
