Share it. Share Because one does not have it and needs it. Share because the other has no choice.
Darkness feeds and fuels, covers and protects. Darkness scares innocence. Darkness hides the monsters. And Light brings them into sight.
Better not to see Death. Better to let it surprise. Lies and promises whispered into a child's ears. A child who hides in darkness...
Gullible and enchanted, the child is led farther into the dark. Because the monsters can see you in the light.
And monsters have masters. Darkness told him this as he handed him a rusted chain. A rusted chain attached to nothing.
They must share. It must be true, for the adult said so, and adults know more than children. Adults master monsters.
Chains wrap around one wrist, then to his new friend's other. Because they have to share.
"Follow me."
And he did. Because Darkness could hide him from the monsters. He watched in awe as Darkness took form, then sat back and waited as Darkness fought. Because Darkness would take away the monsters...
The connection contained exhaustion, and as Darkness took his turn to wait, the child slept. And as the child slept, curiosity drove Darkness in.
Reality and dreams overlapped, and the child was confused. Darkness smiled and spread gently pleading arms. The child agreed and left innocence for his newfound greed.
Touches and tastes. Emotions and feelings. Things overcame the child, the child that no longer was a child. The child that had become an adult.
And, as an adult, he learned how to become a certain monster…..
