At first, she thought they grabbed her to kill her. She found herself in a car, his hand in hers, and driving insanely fast out of the city. The driver looked over his shoulder occasionally, glancing first at the couple sitting motionless in the backseat, and then out the window as if looking for pursuers.

Selene knew the vampires would not be coming that night. Most, if not all of the Death Dealers were dead or wounded.

With the morning, they pulled into an abandoned farmhouse sheltered from the sun. "We'll stay here today," the driver said, mostly to Michael.

They were surprised to find him already awake. A few Death Dealers had returned from the underground with the news, and the Coven went to arouse their only remaining Elder.

Awake, and vastly different. A few voices of protest might have been heard when he assumed his throne, but his commanding tone silenced them. "The war with the Lycans is over. Find Kraven. Bring him to me."

Death Dealers scrambled from the chamber, while those who did not fight stood silently and watched their new leader. After a few moments, Erika made a decision, and slipped quietly from the room.

"All a story, told by Markus, to fool you," Kraven said to the remnants of Amelia's Coven. "We are lucky that Erika was able to find me, and tell me of the situation prior to my return to the mansion."

Erika hid a small smile, and pressed her hand more tightly into his.

Fear had swept the Coven with the news. The most experienced members, both Death Dealers and not, had assembled to hear Kraven's tale. Now they were silent for many minutes, until the commander of the Death Dealers stepped forward. "What would you have us do?"

Kraven smiled.

It was to be a quick but bloody fight, with the experienced attackers slaughtering those just recently forced into the fighting profession by circumstance. Most of the rounds used were to kill vampires, but Kraven had given a few soldiers the necessary weaponry to take down Markus.

He realized the mistake of not keeping some for himself when he heard the frenzied growls behind him. Lycans now crawled over the same fence his own soldiers had scaled just moments before.

He turned and found Michael, sickly blue and grinning. "I never had the chance to thank you for shooting me."
