During this time, there was a political imbalance within the Leaf's leadership. Danzō Shimura would try and have Hiruzen Sarutobi assassinated. Thanks to Kakashi Hatake and the Anbu, it would prove to be a failure. Jonathan's issue was not being completely aware of when this event would happen. Not that he cared in the slightest about it; but rather, he needed to test how strong he'd become one day.
The Anbu were secretive in their missions. They could be spying on people without them knowing. Had it not been for their devotion to serving the Leaf on more clandestine missions, the Hokage would never have ordered them to be watchful towards Leaf citizens. That was the Hokage's job.
Apart from that, there were a few territories Jonathan knew he should not venture to if he desired to remain unknown to as many people as possible. The first is the hospital. Even though the nine-tails attacked, and the only two who'd seen Jonathan were minor nurses, he didn't like that thought. The second is major clans such as the Nara clan and more importantly, the Uchiha clan. They had been relocated to a new district shortly after the nine-tail's attack. And Jonathan knew exactly where that was.
With Jonathan's mental note of the village map, he awaited safely for Teuchi's return. As much as Ayame enjoyed seeing Jonathan, she knew not to ever bother him when he was inside the house.
Teuchi finally came home. As instructed, he gave reports of any particular customers who he knew to be ninjas. There was only one Uchiha among his customers. Jonathan took mental note of that.
"He's a rare one," Teuchi reported. "I hardly ever see him around the shopping district." This was both good news and bad news for Jonathan. Uchiha with sharingan could tell if someone was under a genjutsu. But as long as that specific Uchiha didn't feel threatened, he wouldn't abruptly activate his sharingan. Especially if he was just there to eat. Jonathan was the vigilant type but he wasn't one to be paranoid.
"Here's this day's profit, son." Jonathan gladly took the ryō. Every day, Teuchi would hand Jonathan a couple hundred or so ryō from his business. The only important things that needed to be spent on were basic necessities such as property taxes, business taxes, and ingredients for Teuchi to cook. Jonathan had already used what little money Teuchi had to buy training equipment and clothes. Ayame was also given a small allowance to buy things both during and after school, so Jonathan kept minor things like that relatively the same.
When Jonathan acquired a lot more ryō from the ramen shop, he would save it for more important matters.
The next day, Jonathan didn't go to the training grounds just yet. This time, his destination was the Leaf Village's Academy. Though portions of it had been destroyed during the nine-tail's attack, it was easily rebuilt within ten days. Even better to know, Jonathan confirmed that both old and new students had already begun attending again. There was someone he needed to see. When he arrived, he lodged himself in a remote location. Jonathan had to be extra attentive here. Why? Because this is also where the Hokage's office was located. Many ninjas would also come in and out of this area. On top of that, shinobi who worked in this academy were all ranked Chūnin or higher.
It was necessary, however, for Jonathan to be here. After a couple hours of patiently waiting, Jonathan spotted one of his targets.
"You've changed, you know," said the instructor to an academy student.
"I had to," replied the student.
Jonathan listened in on the two's conversation. After a few exchanges, Jonathan confirmed that the student was going through exactly what he had expected.
That student was Iruka Umino.
