Once again one of these 'in the classroom' chapters is just a shortie.

Harry sat with Hermione that night discussing that day's first year flying class. It had been a disaster and had given neither adult a clue as to who Harry's child was. They were astounded to think that if the child was there they couldn't particularly fly. After all, Harry had been the youngest seeker in a century and Ginny was not too bad herself once she was given the chance to play her preferred position as chaser.
According to Madam Hooch the only children who remained in complete control of the jinxed brooms were Malfoy, Oliver Wood's daughter, Katie Dursley and the young Griffindor Henderson. It was he who Madam Hooch had said to be quite amazing but Harry and Hermione had already ruled him out as a possible son.
Harry was amazed at the similarities between himself and Dudley's daughter. Remus had described her spirit when they first met in his class and it reminded Harry of how happy he had been and just how much optimism he used to have when he first started Hogwarts. When Voldemort was a hiding shadow and the scariest wizard he had to deal with was Snape. In fact Harry had to admit that his potions professor still had a temper to match the world famous dark wizard's.
Hermione had decided on four possible students, who were muggleborn who could be the child of her friend but none really seemed to match. There were the two Hufflepuffs, Daniel Thompson and Theresa Burns, the Ravenclaw Marietta Smith and the Slytherin Sarah Macintosh. Yes there was a supposed muggleborn in Slytherin! Both teachers worried how the young girl survived there, yet she seemed to be able to stand her ground.
Hermione was convinced that she had not grown up with her real parents. After all, surely the hat would never consider anything but a pureblood in Slytherin. Harry was determined not to think of the moody child as his daughter even if she did have his jet black hair, so had pointed out that Tom Riddle, the heir of Slytherin himself was not a pureblood. Besides the hat had considered him in Slytherin and he wasn't of complete pureblood. His grandparents on his mother's side were muggles. Just because she had been put in that house didn't mean she had magical parents hidden somewhere.
Still it made Harry wonder. After all, the hat had told him he had many qualities suitable for Slytherin. What if it had told his daughter the same and she had just gone with it. It was something Harry had always wondered. If he hadn't spoken up, would he have been a Slytherin? How would the story of his life go if that had been the case? Then again, the fact he had said something, reflected his character, so maybe there was never the possibility that he could have been sorted anywhere other than Gryffindor.
He also thought about something his mentor, the former headmaster Albus Dumbledore had told him, it is not who we are born, it is what we grow to be. If this was the case however, it was possible that Harry would never identify his child. He would have to wait until Ginny believed their child was old enough to know. This taken into account, it was likely that Harry and Ginny's child could be in any house, it would depend on how they had been brought up. Harry hated to admit it but the Dursleys treatment of him had ion the end done him good. They kept him grounded in reality. He wasn't spoilt or bigheaded when he came to Hogwarts and therefore was more grateful for everything he received. He also had a place to retreat to where no one had any expectations of him. There he wasn't the boy who lived, they weren't constantly trying to get him to talk about the deaths he'd witnessed and he felt no guilt about hiding prophecies from them.
He hoped that perhaps his child would be in Hufflepuff. That way they could befriend the young Dursley and perhaps end the years of family rivalry. Years ago, before Harry was even born there had been a sister who was jealous, and this had unfortunately led to such enmity between two cousins who could have been friends. Harry wondered if Dudley would have been so spoilt and greedy had he had a cousin, who he saw as a brother to share everything with. Perhaps not.
Hermione herself was set on the child being the young Marietta Smith from her own house. Yes, Hermione was one of the first teachers who was head of a house that she never belonged too. The headmistress had allowed it as she knew Hermione would love the position. After all Harry already lead the lions, leading to some interesting house loyalty. Between Hermione, Harry and Snape the days before the house cup was awarded were always very eventful. The rest of the school had accepted Hermione as head of Ravenclaw thanks to her amazing newt results which were some of the highest Hogwarts had ever seen. Even Snape could not argue (though he tried, although he didn't protest quite as much as he had when Harry had received his post) that she was not a great role model for the young, keen learners. Hermione had been watching the first years at the feast and saw that the young girl had quickly made friends with her daughter, her nephew and Oliver Wood's girl and claimed the child had Harry's ease at getting people to like them. Harry simply joked that it simply couldn't be because neither he nor Ginny ever cared for learning. This earned him a hit on the head with ironically, a book.
Harry was sure they'd find the child somehow. After all they had Hermione on the case. She had as always been doing her research but had found very little information. It almost felt to Harry like they were back in first or second year, the three of them trying to discover the background of the wizard Nicholas Flamel or a way to stop the heir of Slytherin. With Ron's help when he came to visit, it was as if the golden trio were back together again, on another of their yearly adventures. All he needed now was Voldemort to come into the equation. Unfortunately Harry knew that he wasn't far off.

Yep well that's what Harry and Hermione think but what about you. Which first year do you think is Harry and Ginny's child? Just press that review button there and tell me. That way I'll know if I'm making the real answer too obvious. I'm sure I am. K x
