Harry had never felt as frustrated in his life as he left the defence classroom for lunch. Not even when Dumbledore kept all those secrets from him before his fifth year. This time the answer had been right under his nose and he just couldn't see it. None of the children Hermione had pointed out did he feel remotely attached too.
To make matters worse he hadn't really spoke to his wife all week. After all, every conversation they had led to the subject of their child. Harry remembered the first few weeks he had at school. He had been very quiet and tried to fit in, perhaps that was what his child was doing. Not yet showing their true colours.
Walking into the hall his mood was lifted as he saw a familiar red head sitting at the staff table. Damn! He had forgotten Hermione's birthday. Giving a quick nod to his best friend he ran out the room toward his chambers in the hope to find something suitable. His friend gave him a knowing look, after all in fourteen years of being together the youngest Weasley son had forgotten more than one special occasion. Harry was surprised that for once he had arrived on time for dinner. Then again, Ron was always known to arrive on time when food was involved, especially Hogwarts food. Hermione joked it was the only reason he ever came to visit.
Arriving in his room he began searching through the cupboards in the hope he could find something. He could transfigure a book but he was sure she would have read every book title he could think of. Just then Ginny entered. For a while she watched her husband search aimlessly and a smile crept upon her face. He was hopeless her Harry, she knew he'd forget. He hadn't changed since he was at school.
Perhaps that was the thing that annoyed Ginny the most. Over all the years, through all the troubles he had faced he still kept some of the old Harry. He grew a little more like those around him every day, she saw Sirius and Remus in him, she saw Dumbledore in him and most surprisingly she occasionally saw Snape in him, something she had vowed never to tell him. But she still saw the old Harry, the Harry she had a crush on from the moment she saw him. The Harry she grew to love. Maybe the thing that got to her the most was the way he could get through it all. He was stronger than she and she wished she could have done the same.
At that moment she loved him more than she had ever done. She loved him for his determination, his love for their child and his predictability. She couldn't tell him what he wanted to know, no, she had promised herself she wouldn't but she could make up with him.
As she had been thinking the smile on her face grew to a grin and out of the corner of his eye Harry had been watching her. Suddenly as she came out of her thoughts she laughed and their eyes joined, silently apologising to each other for their stubbornness.
From behind her back Ginny produced a small box. Harry returned her grin, she knew he would forget. Walking up to her he took her into his arms and simply held her. The moment was so important to the both of them, just to hold each other like they hadn't for so very long.
Breaking apart they walked hand in hand to the great hall, earning some surprised looks, some of the students had forgotten they were even married. Hermione and Ron looked overjoyed at the reunion of their friends. After wishing Hermione 'happy birthday' they gave her a present (a new watch, a miniature version of the clock that used to be on the Burrow wall) and ate their celebrational meal. They chatted like old times, making sure to overpass the subject of children. For a while, Harry's mind was distracted from his previous problems.
It wasn't until they were back in Hermione's chambers, when the girls had left the room when Ron brought up the subject to his friend. However it wasn't really to talk about Harry's troubles. Just the day before, Ron had encountered an old friend. Neville. Neville after the help of Harry and a little faith in himself had become a powerful medi-wizard. Helping to find cures for those who were thought to be incurable.
Neville it seemed was once more in a similar position to the boy-who-lived. Once everyone found out about the prophesy, naturally both Harry and Neville became targets for the Dark lord's henchmen. This time Voldemort was taking no chances. Neville was at the time dating the loony Ravenclaw Luna, although it was a very low profile relationship. After all Gryffindor's clumsiest clown and Ravenclaws weirdest reject together would provide a great source of laughter for students from all houses. They had used the room of requirement to meet, known only to Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny.
However unknown to the rest of them, Luna had, just before Ginny, become pregnant. As Neville was on the dark lord's hitlist and neither had much faith in their defence abilities, Luna had left for the muggle world for a few months whilst she gave birth. Meanwhile Neville was supposed to finalise their move into muggle society.
Unfortunately after his child was born, Neville never got to see his child. On his way the coin that used to be used for the old DA meetings had vibrated in his pocket. Hermione had changed the charm on the galleons so that they shook, alerting the owner to a problem, usually a Deatheater attack. Harry continued to lead the DA into battle long after school and most of the group continued to apparate to his summons. Neville, always the loyal friend always answered, even on this, the most important day of his life.
The reason Neville never saw his child however was that Luna had also received the alert. Being Luna, she worried about her boyfriend and left the hospital to fight by his side. Having just given birth she wasn't really on top form. There she became one of the many casualties of the war and never returned to the hospital where her child lay. Fighting between her fiancé and Ginny, her best friend, she became a hero amongst heroes as she gave her life graciously. Thankfully the village was protected but at a great cost.
In that day Neville lost all he had. His girlfriend gone and his child in some unknown location he moved into the muggle house he had bought, whilst gradually putting all his efforts into his work. He was determined to find a cure for those who he saw as similar to his parents. Unfortunately his parents had passed away before he had any chance of helping them recover and so was desperate to find a cure to stop others having to go through what he did. There were so many victims led to madness from the crucious after Voldemort's second rise to power.
Anyway, the reason Neville was telling Ron about this was that he had hoped his son may have attended Hogwarts; after all, he would have turned eleven the previous year. The couple had hoped for a boy and Neville had asked if it was, the child be named Remus. After all Professor Lupin had been the first to really believe in Neville's abilities when everyone else thought he was a failure.
After Ron had informed his old school friend that there was no first year called Remus, Neville had looked extremely downtrodden and made his excuses to leave, muttering something about the child probably being a squib anyway after all he nearly was.
Harry thought about giving Neville a call, let him know he was in the same boat. They could find consolation in each other. Both men felt very guilty that they had not kept in touch with the good-hearted Gryffindor. Neville had lost his parents, his newfound family and Harry and Ron felt as his friend they should have been there for him. Harry hadn't seen Neville for about a year, and even that was after they had fought together in an attempt to protect Hogsmeade. He realised it was terrible that the only chance he called for his friend was when he needed his help and wanted him to risk his life. He decided he would go and visit his friend the next chance he had. Maybe together they could find their children.

Now what do you think? Clears the whole middle name fiasco. That one was rather long for an 'in the staffroom' chapter, never mind. Please read and review. K x
