"BANG!"

The sound of a gunshot rang through the air as one bright and glorious star fell to its demise. The past of a man consumed all his thoughts as he felt the cold, hard floor meet his back.

FLASHBACK

It was his time, his calling— time to face his past.

Spike sauntered through the dimly lit hallway. Unexpectedly the icy touch of a barrel met his head. Frozen in mid-step, he could sense the presence of the Romani— Faye, his comrade. The shrew.

"Where are you going? Why are you going? You told me once... that the past didn't matter... You are the one who's tied to their past!" Spike heard a different tone in her voice.

Spike turned to fix his face in front of hers. Uncomfortable, she backed against the wall. "Look at these eyes."

Having no choice in the matter Faye gazed into his eyes only to discover they were two different shades.

"One of them is a fake, because I lost it in a accident. Since then, I have been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. I had believed that what I saw was not all reality..."

"Don't tell me things like that... You never told me anything about yourself! Don't tell me stuff like that now!"

"I thought I was watching a dream that I would never awaken from. Before I knew it, the dream was all over." Turning away from Faye, Spike again continued to walk away to face his past.

Desperately trying to make him stay, she stammered the only thing she could think of. "My...memory came back." Hoped filled her heart as she watched him stop and stand still, back facing her. So she regained her composure.

"But... nothing good came out of it. There was no place for me to return to... This was the only place I could go back to! But now... Where are you going? Why do you have to go? Are you telling me you're going to just throw your life away?"

"I'm not going there to die. I'm going there to see if I really am alive." And at that moment, he walked out of the hall, and to his Swordfish. He left. But before he took off, a small tinge of guilt filled his heart as he heard the sound of Faye shoot off all her rounds. He brushed it off, and as soon as the guilt had came, it was gone.
