Similar questions filled the teachers lounge that night. Who were the culprits? Who did some want to punish and others congratulate? Whoever it was Harry pitied them when they were found out. After a gruelling from Hermione (and he had had his fair share of those over the years; enough to know they should be avoided) and several hundred thousand detentions with Snape (he couldn't say he hadn't sampled them either) they'd wish they had stayed anonymous.
Harry immediate thought was the Weasleys, there were enough of them to pull it off, they had great access to pranking materials and a big enough knowledge of spells. But that just didn't fit. After all hadn't Fred and George been trying to get the redheads to use their products for years with no luck, mostly due to their sharp-eyed, disapproving aunt? The twins were always moaning to him about how they had yet to find a predecessor in the next generation to pass on there knowledge.
The older years could be quickly ruled out; after all if they had wanted to cause a stir they would have done so sooner and if truth be told nothing had been done so imaginative since the Weasley twins themselves graced the school with their presence. The only pranks pulled since had been from the use of their products and this was definitely not recognisable. But then maybe they had suddenly got bored or needed the element of surprise.
However the other teachers were keen to rule out the younger years. Hell, the kid managed to hold off Snape's counter curse and that in itself was no mean feat. To be able to change the sky at all, part of the castle itself and so fuelled by its ancient magic was impressive in itself. That combined with the other things led the teachers to lay the blame on the older NEWT level students.
Throughout this Snape raved, Ginny said very little, Hermione simply wanted to get to the bottom of it all and Remus sat there smiling. Harry however did over hear one of the comments his friend tried to whisper to their former transfiguration professor.
'It takes you back doesn't it?'
And she in turn nodded approvingly with a small, sad smile.
