WOW! Almost 400 views in the first week! I was not expecting that! Thank you all for reading my small project! Also, instead of updating this every chapter, I might update it every time I get a section of the chapter done. Like what I did here. Make sure to comment your ideas; I have little to no idea where I plan to go with this. I am making this up as I go… which is probably not a good thing, but eh, whatever.
"Yes, hello? Oh, it's a girl. Look, I'm not interested in your girl scout cookies. I have things to do." Said Jacob Hopkins as he started to close his apartment door.
"Wait! I'm not a girl scout. I have questions about your work." said Masha, putting her foot in the way of the door. Jacob stood there for a second before he opened it again.
"Hi, you probably don't know me, but I work at the Historical Society, and I may have found some of your old footage and I think my friend… might not be who she says she is." Jacob looked at her for a second suspiciously, then motioned for her to come in.
"What did you see?" He asked.
"Well, it was the footage from the old Wittebane residence. I think I saw one of my friends… turn into… a slug?" Jacob stared at her for a moment and then smiled creepily. "The demon from Mars!"
"Mars? Is that where she is from? Oh, also, I think the person she was disguised as is trapped somewhere called the 'Boiling Isles'? I don't know where that is but it sounds hot."
"Boiling Isles? Let me see that tape."
"Good thing I brought it with me." Masha took off her backpack and pulled out the tape.
"Give me that!" Jacob said as he snatched it out of her hand and ran off into the living room.
"Wha- hey!" Masha called as she ran after him.
"I was kicked out of the Historical Society before I got to review the rest of the footage. But I saw when it transformed and knew to keep an eye out for the girl. It came to me one day asking for some cards I found. I went into the backroom where I kept them. The alien followed me and that's where it revealed itself. This is new information to me though."
"Well then," Masha started, "I believe I have a piece to the puzzle. According to the tape, Vee was abused and ran away-"
"You do know I just saw the footage. I know." Interrupted Jacob.
"Sorry. Anyways, later that day she came to me and was asking about the Hexas Hold-Em cards. I gave her a reading and-"
"Why did you do that?" Jacob asked suspiciously.
"'Cause I wanted to try them out. I had just gotten them. After I did that I told her that I got them from you."
"Oh right! That's where I recognized you from."
"So what happened next? She came to you and then what?" asked Masha.
"Well like I said, It followed me to the backroom and I captured it. Later that day, a woman, who later learned was named Camila Noceda, came in and pretended to be a vet sent by the government to take a look at the creature. But the next thing I knew, she turned against me and knocked me out with her flip-flop. I mean how does one even get knocked out? It's made of foam!"
"Well I can tell you who Camila is, she is Luz mom. She was taking care of Vee unknowingly after she came to earth. Luz must have found a way to tell Camila and brought her to the Historical Society. Maybe she could help us."
"NO! She is in league with the monster! We can't trust her. Whatever you do, stay away from her! I've been watching her."
"First of all, that is creepy, second, I'm still going to see her. I need to know what happened to my friend." replied Masha.
"Well don't say I didn't warn you. I have been in this career and one thing that I've learned is that the deeper you search, the more things you find that you wish you never found. Do you really think that I drove my friends away with my 'so-called' madness? No! I cut ties with them. And once you find out those things, there is no going back. You can't just stop, you're in too deep. You will become just like me. Quit while you still can, or you will regret this. I thank you for showing me the tape but you need to leave."
Ding! Dong!
"Coming!" said Vee after she shapeshifted into Camila. She opened the door and saw Masha standing there.
"Oh, erm… hello, aren't you my- er, Ve- …Luz's friend from camp? What can I do for you? Do you want me to get her?"
"No, I'm actually here to ask you something."
"Uh sure, come in, come in." Vee said, motioning for her to come inside.
"Thank you," replied Masha as she came in.
"Can I get you anything, erm- how 'bout some coffee?"
"No thank you, I don't drink coffee. Some water would be nice though."
"Okay, have a seat, I'll… go get you a glass." said Vee as she walked into the kitchen. Masha sat down on the couch.
"Ice or no Ice?" Asked Vee through the hallway.
"No ice please."
"Okay," Vee entered the living room with a glass of water in hand. "So… what is it you wanted to ask?" Vee hoped she knew enough of the Human Realm to answer Masha's question.
"Okay… I'm going to get straight to the point… Why did you save Vee from Jacob Hopkins?" Vee was so taken back by this that her ear tufts came out. She quickly turned them back. Masha didn't notice. "Jacob got fired and the manager hired me. I got ahold of Jacobs old footage of Vee transforming at the old Wittebane house. I went to him and he said that you saved Vee. Why?"
"B- because… I didn't want to send her back," Vee's anxiety became too much for her to handle. She slowly transformed back to her human form. It at first started with her eyes and her hair. "Back to a horrible place… a place where she was tortured and experimented on," a leg, "A place where she would have no family, …no friends. Nothing," An arm, "a place where she was forced to do …horrible things. But I gave her a chance at freedom, at love. I promised that I would take care of her and keep her from those bad people." At last, Vee transformed back into human form. "She never meant any harm but she couldn't go back. She had no place to stay. So I took her in. But then Luz finally came back and now both of them are stuck at that place and I don't know what to do. Vee glanced at Masha with tears in her eyes. Then she transformed into her basilisk form. Masha looked back with not fear, but kindness. Then she did something unexpected. She got up and hugged Vee.
