–WFI–Chapter 28 Wednesday, September 1
Chaos. That is the only way to describe the Gilmore-Huntzburger Manor this morning. Rory had gotten up early to try to make the morning go smoothly. Logan was not expected in the office until later. He got up and went for a run, just like he does most days. He was working on a solution to the Karson/father problem. He was so into his thoughts that he didn't realize he had run further than he usually does. He stopped to catch his breath. He was checking his pulse when he realized he was going to be late getting back to the house. He thought about getting a ride from his security guy following him but decided to just run back.
Chaos is what Logan walked into when entering the house. He was on his way to the shower when heard Rory trying to convince Em to wear the cartwheel shorts under her dress. He stopped by Em's room. "Hello, my beautiful girls," Logan said as he entered the room. He walked over to Rory to give her a kiss on the cheek but was stopped when she stepped away.
"Logan, you are all sweaty. Go take a shower." She said, turning up her nose.
"Ew daddy, you stink," Em said, holding her nose.
"Fine, I'll go take a shower, but when I am out of the shower and dressed, you little lady had better be dressed. That includes the shorts your momma told you to put on." Logan said sternly so that Em knew he was serious.
When Logan made it back downstairs, Will and Chris were at the table eating eggs and bacon. Neither were talking, just eating. Em came out of the kitchen with a pop tart singing 'POP GOES THE WEASEL'
Logan was shaking his head. "Okay, what did you do with your moma?" Logan asked. Both boys looked up and shrugged their shoulders. He turned around when he heard the french doors open. Rory and Karson were just coming in from the pool house.
"Okay, guys and gal. This train leaves in five minutes. I need everyone on board with your teeth brushed, hair combed and a smile on your face." Logan said. "Will, Chris, I will be walking you into your classroom if I have to repeat this announcement again." Logan smiled at them. They both got up, went upstairs, and were back down in less than five minutes. Rory and Em were not too far behind them. Evelyn was standing at the kitchen counter with the lunch boxes. She was handing them to each child as they headed to the garage.
Rory and Logan pulled out of the gate, headed to Chilton. Rory was directing Logan to drop the boys off. After they got out, were told to have a good day, Logan and Rory pulled into the kindergarten parking area and got out. Logan helped Em out. Rory and Logan were talking and walking behind Em. Em stopped and Logan almost tripped over her. "Em, Baby. You almost tripped your daddy." Rory said. "Why did you stop?"
Em turned around, with her hands on her hips, with her princess pony book bag and her hello kitty lunch box. Logan thought she was the cutest thing he had ever seen. "I decided no school. I just go home with you." Em said and started walking back to the car.
Logan and Rory stood there for a second before Logan took off after her. "Em, you have been looking forward to going to school for a long time. Ms. Gina is waiting on you." Logan pleaded.
"She be okay," Em said as she continued to the car. By the time she got to the car, she couldn't open the door. It was locked.
Logan got to her first. "Em, you can't go home with us. You have to go to school." Logan said. Em looked at him with the saddest eyes he had ever seen. Logan bends down to eye level. He took her in his arms. "Baby, don't cry. You will have fun today. I want you to draw me a picture. I need some new artwork for my office."
When Rory reached the car, she told Em that she had to go to school and the sad eyes would not work on her. If she kept it up, her daddy would not be dropping her off anymore.
Logan was just looking at Rory. "Ace."
"Emily Lorelai Huntzburger, don't make me be mean momma today. You will not like it if I have to be mean momma." Rory told her.
Em looked at Rory, then at Logan. "Okay." They followed her to her classroom. Showed her the desk with her name on it, kissed and hugged her, and walked out.
On the way back to the car, they stopped by Karson's classroom. She had several crying kids and several crying moms. Logan and Rory just waved at her and told her to have a good day.
On the way home, Logan told Rory of his plan. He was scheduled to go talk with Katie this week. He asked Rory if she wanted to come. "What makes you think you can get her to talk?" Rory asked.
"Dillon will have his report for me today or tomorrow. I should have enough information to piece together what happened. I will then confront her."
Rory nodded. "Good luck with that. I want to go to New York with you." Rory said. Logan agreed.
Rory was at home in her office working when she heard Bailey and the kids coming home from school. Rory got up to go see how it went. Everyone was talking at once. The twins were trying to tell Rory they had all these papers to fill out. And Em was telling her about her new friend. Rory was laughing. "Okay, one at a time. The papers that you want me to fill out are on the website. I have already sent them in. I will look over these and see if there is something I forgot to fill out." She said taking the papers for both boys. "Anything else I need to know from you two," Rory asked.
"No ma'am." They said,
"Okay, bookbags in your study room, and then go see Evelyn for a snack. Then if you have homework, get to it." Rory told them. Both boys took off toward their rooms.
"Now, Ms. Em, tell me about your day," Rory said. She sat down next to Em. Em started telling her about her day. About her new friend, about her teacher, and about the boy that was pulling her hair.
When Logan got home, they started telling him about their day while they ate supper. Rory was glad they wanted to share.
