–WFI–Chapter 29 Friday, September 3

Logan and Rory were both up early. They are planning a couple of days in New York. Collin, Steph, Finn, and Charles were meeting them for drinks Friday night at Finn's Club. Logan and the crew are planning on grilling on the rooftop terrace Saturday night. Rory and Logan will head home Sunday. Family grilling for lunch Monday at Christopher's.

Lorelai and Luke are picking up the kids Friday night. There is a Labor Day festival and Parade Saturday. Bailey will go get them Sunday afternoon before Logan and Rory get home.

Logan and Rory dropped the kids off at school, then headed to the Helipad at HPG in Hartford. They plan on talking with Katie Friday. Logan was prepared to pay her, he just hadn't told Rory yet. Logan also was prepared to meet with Shira and pay her if they could not get the truth out of Katie.

Logan and Rory pulled up to the HPG office. They took the elevator to the executive offices. Logan checked in with John, while Rory went to find Ricky. Rory was in Ricky's office talking when Logan called to tell her the luggage was on the chopper, and he was in his office waiting on her. Ricky escorted her to Logan's office. Kissing her on the cheek and telling them to have a good time. Rory and Logan took his private elevator to the rooftop helipad.

Their ride to New York was uneventful. When they landed on the rooftop of their apartment building, Logan helped Rory out while Jeffery unloaded the luggage. Rory and Logan freshened up for their trip downtown to see Katie. Katie worked in a doctor's building. She was one of four receptionists. You check in with one of the receptionists, they log you into the doctor you have an appointment with. One of the doctors in the building is a Dentist that Logan and Rory went to Yale with. Dr. Adams. Logan had already called Missy Adams, telling her that he needed to talk with Katie. She made arrangements to have Katie in her office when Logan and Rory arrived.

Rory and Logan called for a car to meet them downstairs. They preferred using a car service while in Manhattan. Who wants to drive in that traffic. Rory texted Missy when they left the apartment. They entered the building and approached the receptionist's desk. "We have a meeting with Dr. Adams, she is expecting us," Rory said. The lady at the desk called Dr. Adams' office and was told to send them up.

Missy met them at the elevator and showed them to the conference room. "Katie, Logan, and Rory want to talk with you. Take all the time you need." Dr. Adams told her.

Katie was confused. "Did something happen to Karson?" she asked.

Rory and Logan sat down. "No, she is fine," Rory said. Katie went to get up. "Katie, we need to talk with you. Can you please help us out?" Rory asked.

"If this is about Karson's father, No. She does not need to know." Katie said.

"There is someone from Hartford that claims to be Karson's grandmother. She is determined to meet Karson. We have been holding her off for now, but she is going to talk with Karson at some point. We need to protect her. If this woman is not her grandmother, then I need to know." Logan said.

Katie was shaking her head no, but you could see the tears in her eyes. Logan opened his mouth to say something and Rory put her hand on his arm to stop him. "Katie," Rory said softly. "Karson and Ricky got married. They will, at some point, want to have children. They both love kids. Don't you want Karson to have a family? Don't you want to be able to visit Karson and Ricky with that perfect little baby?" Rory said.

Katie looked up at Rory. "Is she pregnant?" Katie asked.

Rory smiled. "Not that I know of, but I know she and Ricky have talked about it. Karson is a little hesitant because she does not know her father's history…..Please help us." Rory pleaded.

Katie sat there with tears running down her cheeks. "Austin Goodyear?" Logan asked. Katie looked at him for a moment.

"Katie?" Rory said softly. She nodded her head. "His mother wants to meet Karson."

Katie is shaking her head. "Why Katie. Give us a good reason why and we will take care of it." Logan told Katie.

Katie took a deep breath. "Rory, do you remember that party at Kyle's. The one that Lane and her band played?" Rory nodded. She remembers that party well. "Austin and one of his buddies were at the party. They showed up on a brand new Lexus. Austin and I had been meeting in Hartford for a couple of weeks. I told him about the party but didn't think he would show up. He did. I was dancing with Mikey when he got there. He was mad."

She paused and took a deep breath. She was going to have to tell the truth. "We went outside to talk. He wanted me to leave with him. I wasn't sure he was sober. I had been drinking. We went down to the pond by the old Independence Inn. One thing led to another. When I realized he had removed my jeans, I think I tried to stop him. I was a virgin. This is not the way I wanted to lose my virginity…..When he finished, he rolled off me. I was crying. He told me to stop crying. I remember asking him if he used a rubber. He wouldn't answer. He told me to get dressed and he would take me home. I didn't move. He threatens to leave me there. I told him to go ahead. I would walk home. He walked away. I stayed there for what seemed like hours, but I am sure it wasn't that long. I got dressed and went home."

She had her head down, picking at her fingernails."I realized I was pregnant after going to the doctor with what my mom thought was the flu. I was almost four months pregnant. My period has never been regular. My mom flipped out. Wanted to know who the father was. I was scared to tell her. I was afraid she would say I was asking for it or threaten him and he would say bad things about me. I was so young. I was just a junior in High School. My mom called my aunt in Washington State and put me on a bus. I tried calling Austin before I left and at every stop, the bus made along the way. He wouldn't take my calls. His mother answered several times but she would say he wasn't home. When I got to Washington, my aunt suggested I try writing him a letter or emailing him. I did not have his address or his email address. My aunt helped me find his home address. I wrote him a letter telling him that I was pregnant and my mom shipped me off to Washington. I left my address in Washington and a phone number. I never heard from him."

"After I had Karson and graduated high school, I went to work. My aunt was kind enough to let me stay with her. She babysat Karson. I heard from a few of the folks back home about Austin joining the Marines. I tried contacting him again. I didn't want anything from him now. I just wanted him to know. I never heard from him. Tristan Dugray called me one time. Now that I think about it, I wonder where he got my phone number. Anyway, he called. I told him about Karson and asked him to please contact Austin. I didn't hear back from Tristian until after Austin had been killed. Tristian told me that he told Austin. This is something I didn't think Karson needed to know. Did his mother keep my letters from him?" Katie asked, looking up at Rory.

"I don't know. We are trying to find out why now?" Logan told her.

Katie put her head in her hands and openly sobbed. Rory got up and went to her side of the table and put her arm around her. "Katie I am sorry. I am sorry that I was not there for you. I am sorry, I had to beg you to tell me this. But Katie, this is something Karson needs to know before she gets involved with her grandmother."
