The cross around her neck mocked her. What was once a piece of jewelry was now a reminder of what she lost. She despised having to wear it.
One night she stared at the mirror as she put it on, wishing she didn't feel the way she did.
"Thanks for nothing," she spat at her reflection, imagining God was in the room listening. "Why can't a girl be able to rest in peace?"
God betrayed her. He allowed her to be ripped away from heaven.
The only faith she had now was in her stake. It would never betray her.
