009 - Chronicle Saga Ft. Hieda no Yuuka | Historical Moment: Nostalgia & Trip Down To Memory Lane
A day in Yukari's life is interesting. She only sleep, sleep, eat, sleep, and that's pretty much it. With the addition of solving incidents because that's her job that is given by the ancient Hakurei. She wasn't always a Hakurei shrine maiden, you know. Back then, she's feral and dangerous. Fortunately, a character development happened and now she's a protector of the realm.
'Ah, finally, nothing will ruin my beautiful, relaxing, peaceful sleep.' Yukari is having the time of her life, which is sleeping. Suddenly, a vengeful spirit appeared and ruined her sleep. "Yukari! It's finally here! The mushroom bomb that I ordered in which I really didn't found in the forest!" Yukari supposed having a cons in her life is probably good… probably.
"Shut up, vengeful spirit." When Mima heard that, she was shocked and mad. "How dare you! I'm not a vengeful spirit! I may be dead, but I'm not a vengeful spirit that will haunt your entire life! I just don't want to pass on yet because there are things that I want to do." Yukari ignores her as she tries to go back to sleep.
"Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that," Yukari tiredly said as she wanted to go back to sleep. Who knows when the next incident might appear. KNOCK! KNOCK! "Yukari! Somebody is at the door." KNOCK! KNOCK! Yukari didn't want to wake up, so some shadow appeared right next to her and proceeded to slap her in the face. "Oh damn! You got slapped, bro!" And Mima is commenting from the sidelines.
Then Yukari woke up and she's mildly infuriated. She grabbed her head in pain. "What? I'm awake, I'm awake." Yukari still has her eyes closed, but she's completely awake. "Hieda no Yuuka wants you at the town hall. She said it is important… and stop sleeping!" Yukari keeps getting slapped by Rumia, then Mima gets some popcorn to watch this, she probably got that popcorn from Yukari's food stash.
Yukari didn't mind nor didn't care, she just wanted to sleep, but she couldn't because something came up. "What…? Why? It's Sunday." But Rumia is not having any of that, then she suddenly pulls the blanket that is covering Yukari. Rumia sees that Yukari is wearing the amogus jacket, vine boom t-shirt, red-purple shorts, and a pair of crocs… while she's sleeping.
"What are those?! Where's your shrine maiden clothes that you usually wear?! What you're wearing is atrocious!" Yukari just gave her that look. "Shut up. You don't see me making fun of your clothes, right? So stop. Also, I'll be getting up now." Rumia just "hmphs" and was about to leave before saying something to Yukari.
"Don't be late! It's 9:00 am, you have to meet Hieda no Yuuka." Then off she goes. Yukari stand up from her bed and went to the kitchen, only to see Mima reading that book that contains about mushroom and bombs. 'She must be researching nukes,' Yukari thought as she grabbed some bite for breakfast before leaving.
"I'm leaving. Don't forget to lock the door when you get out, Mima." Mima just nodded as she kept reading. Yukari has now left the house. She walked through the pathway that leads to the human village, with the addition of beating the fairies into submission. Yukari didn't kill any fairies even though they can respawn because she remembered something in the past that life is precious. She obviously can't recall it, but it wouldn't hurt to not kill anyone.
Once she entered the human village after the two guards already knew who she was despite not wearing her shrine maiden clothes and wearing casuals, she immediately went to the lamprey stall to buy some lampreys. She thought that she would give them to Hieda no Yuuka as a gift for inviting her to the town hall.
Yuuka knocked on the door and someone shouted, "It's open!" Yukari grabbed the knob of the door and twisted it, opening the door and seeing Hieda no Yuuka writing another chronicle. "Hey. It's been like what? Two? Three weeks since that ice dragon incident." Yukari bought the lampreys as she gave the other one to Hieda no Yuuka.
"Sure. I invited you for something." Yukari took a bite of her lamprey as she sat down on the nearest chair. "Yeah. What for? Rumia said it's important." Hieda no Yuuka pushed away the lamprey because she is still working. "I need you to confirm something. I want you to check every profile that I have in the chronicles. It's inefficient if there's only one doing it."
Yukari finished her lamprey and threw away the plastic in the trash can like a pro gamer. "You checked all of them before and you're the only one who did it. What has changed now?" Hieda no Yuuka sighed. "I just wanted to talk to someone while doing work. Is that too much to ask for? Everyone thinks I'm scary, so they avoid me when I'm at the workplace."
Yukari nodded and thought, 'Yup. This is what we call a severe case of… loneliness.' Yukari leaned on the table, which slightly distracted Hieda no Yuuka from working but she kept going on with the writing. "You know what? Sure. We can talk while we're working. I got nothing better to do, anyway." Yukari then grabbed some scrolls and checked it. 'Well, all I do is sleep anyway.'
Yukari checked the first page of the first scroll that she grabbed. 'Huh, I think I vaguely remember who this person is… who am I kidding? She's my friend, Rumia,' she thought as she kept on reading.
Shadow Creature of Iniquity and Tenebrosity
Rumia Kamishirasawa
Ability: Darkness manipulation

Main place of activity: Human Village
A youkai of darkness that can control the shadows. Despite being a youkai and powerful one at that, she is friendly to humans because she is the protector of the human village. She wards off dangerous beings and protects the people in the village.
Her home seems to have been in the human village since she first appeared there, often wandering around the inside and outside of the human village. She also has a job as a teacher at the school. There is only one school in the human village that enrolls kids.
Despite being friendly to humans, she wouldn't hesitate to T-pose and beat the crap out of anyone who tries to break the law. Same goes for the youkais who are dangerous. She seems to be friendly with the Hakurei shrine maiden.
Ability
Her ability seems to be related to darkness and shadows. She can teleport only when there are shadows nearby. She can blind anyone using darkness which can make them vulnerable to her attacks. When it is night time, she is powerful and can take on eight hundred youkais that are low and mid levels, sometimes few high level ones.
Apparently, she transforms into a complete shadow creature with a silhouette of her size and shape. Fortunately, she does not turn feral and dangerous when she transforms into that form.
Countermeasures
Fire magic and anything related to it is her weakness. That does not change the fact that she still has the strength of a youkai.
Stay out of shadows and darkness. Those things are her gateway and can snatch you anytime if you are near them.
If you wish to speak to her, approach her. She is a teacher, after all.
'So she is friendly to humans. I already know that. Next.' Yukari put the scroll down on the table and grabbed another one. 'Oh wow, another person that I know and I think I met her during that monk incident,' Yukari thought as she proceeded to read the content, looking neutral as ever when she's reading the scrolls.
Disciple of Bishamonten
Nue Toramaru
Ability: Pinpointing the exact location of treasures

Human Friendship Level: Medium
Main place of activity: Houjuu Temple and Human Village
A disciple of Bishamonten. Despite being a nue who brings bad luck to others, she can pinpoint the exact location of treasures. She lives with Byakuren Houjuu, who is a tyrant and yearns for war and fear.
Her home is in the Houjuu temple, a ginormous pirate ship that can somehow fly. It probably uses magic as a primary source of fuel.
She is often seen in the human village to advertise their religious ideology. But due to their leader being a tyrant and all, it is safe that few people in the human village bothered to join them.
She is a shy person, which makes it slightly difficult to approach, but she is the only one who has a good heart and will not trick you into doing something you might regret. In fact, she will lead you to a legit treasure. You will be rich once you get to know her.
Ability
She can locate treasures and their exact location, but some people did not believe in her ability because almost all of them thought it was just a hoax. Or that, she is a youkai and her leader is not a good person to say the least. Only a handful of people believed in her ability.
Countermeasures
She is a youkai, so any form of youkai extermination tools are the only things you need to combat her.
'Interestingly enough, she is the one who provided me the-*cough*-economic currency for my bank account. So she is very helpful to me.' Yukari continued to read the next page. She somehow bought out a lamprey out of nowhere. She probably got it from her fridge from her house by using her boundary manipulation. Hieda no Yuuka didn't mind that. In fact, she doesn't care as long as she completes whatever she's doing.
The Tyrannical Monk
Byakuren Houjuu
Ability: Black magic
Threat Level: High
Human Friendship Level: Low
Main place of activity: Houjuu Temple and anywhere that she can raze to the ground
The leader of the Houjuu Temple and its residents. She is one of the dangerous and feared beings in the realm. It is hard to say whether she is a human or youkai. It is believed that she is in between it.
Her home is in Houjuu Temple and spends time planning wicked plans to strike fear into the innocent people.
Her personality and state of her mind leaves much to be desired.
Ability
One of the most devious and dangerous powers, black magic. It can curse, send fear to a person, etc. Combining this with her already high strength that can break apart a mountain, she is one of the fearsome beings that you do not want to cross paths with.
Countermeasures
She is neither a youkai nor human, so it is hard to know for sure on how to defeat her. You can counter her black magic with another black magic user or light magic that can nullify her. But her strength alone can break apart a mountain, so only extremely strong beings such as Yukari Hakurei can only defeat her.
'Ah, yeah… this woman… next!' Yukari grabbed another scroll to read. Hieda no Yuuka just watches her read from the sidelines while also reading the other scrolls. In short, she is multitasking. That is to be expected from a flower youkai who can control multiple things at once as she uses her flower power.
The Girl That Can Read Minds And Traverse In Dreams
Satori Sweet
Ability: Manipulate dreams and read minds
Threat Level: Low
Human Friendship Level: Low
Main place of activity: Dream World
A Baku mixed with Satori magic DNA (?), a being that resides in the Dream World and can read minds, traverse in dreams and even in the subconscious. Hard to say if she is actually friendly to humans. This is according to the Hakurei shrine maiden's word because she encountered the being in her dream. She prefers to be called Saccharine Enlightenment.
Ability
She can control dreams and make the person experience anything, even if they cannot control the dream anymore once the baku is inside their head. And she can read minds due to her being inside their mind.
She also can travel through dreams since it is obviously related to her ability.
Countermeasures
Do not sleep.
You cannot combat her in your dream once she is inside, but you can prepare charms that can keep the baku out of your mind.
'That girl is a pain in my ass to deal with. I'm glad that she doesn't appear in my dreams whenever I sleep. I wonder why, though,' Yukari scratched her head and continued to grab more scrolls to read. 'Hey, I know this person. She always sleeps in my basement whenever she visits me, and by visit I mean she crashed in my house.'
Average Thief Spirit
Mima Kirisame
Ability: Using magic (Specialized in space and explosion magic)

Main place of activity: Hakurei Shrine and Human Village
Best friend of Yukari Hakurei, she sometimes protects the human village if it is truly in danger, but if it is something petty such as a person stealing, then she will leave it to the authorities to handle it.
Her home is unknown, not even Yukari Hakurei knows where her house is. She seems to be living at the Hakurei Shrine.
She is often seen stealing stuff and saying "You can get it back after I pass on into the afterlife." She always steals from the Hakurei Shrine, but Yukari Hakurei does not mind since she is her best friend, so it is technically not stealing if you are stealing from your best friend. She likes to steal books for her research.
Ability
She is a magician ghost, she is actually a vengeful spirit but she doesn't like being called as one. Her magic specializes in space and explosion. She can phase through walls as being a magician ghost.
Countermeasures
Use any talisman that can seal her off permanently.
It seems holy weapons are effective against a vengeful spirit such as her.
'She is a vengeful spirit? Of course I already know that. And also, that's why my cups, plates, utensils, and books keep disappearing. I know this because I live with her.' Yukari breathed, then continued to read more of the scrolls while bobbing her head to an angle that no humans physically can do. She's a youkai after all.
The Black Komainu of Good Omens
Chen Komano
Ability: Use of sorcery to help people

Main place of activity: Hakurei Shrine and Human Village
A komainu that looks like a bakeneko helps people with their problems, if they are good people. "She is a good person" according to Yukari Hakurei. She is also treated as a child by Yukari Hakurei and takes care of her as if she is her biological daughter.
She sometimes surprises people in a good way by cooking food, cleaning trash inside their house, and etc.
Ability
With the use of sorcery to bring good omens, she is a being that is beneficial to the people. She never uses her ability to trick and hurt people.
Countermeasure
Just use a fish as bait and a cage to lock her, then boom! You already captured her. She is pretty easy to deal with. Yukari Hakurei tested it and it worked.
'Lmao, I remember this. Funny as heck, though.' Yukari grabs the last scroll before she heads back to her house. 'Last one, then I'm done here.' She starts to read, ignoring the flickering from the lightbulb in the ceiling.
The Boundless Shrine Maiden of Hakurei Shrine
Yukari Hakurei
Ability: Manipulation of boundary and Onmyoudou
Threat Level: None
Human Friendship Level: High
Main place of activity: Hakurei Shrine and Human Village
The protector of the realm. She is the only one who solves incidents around this place. Without her, then the realm would collapse. In fact, she says she is the one who created the Hakurei barrier because of the very first Hakurei shrine maiden's dying wish according to Yukari Hakurei.
Friends with an average magician ghost and teacher who can control darkness, they sometimes help her whenever an incident happens.
Ability
Her ability is vague because she can control and manipulate boundaries. Boundaries of what? Nevertheless, using her manipulation of boundary and onmyoudou, she is a force to be reckoned with. She needs to be strong because her job requires it.
Countermeasure
None.
'Okay, I said this is the last one, but I want to know the profile of Hieda no Yuuka. This is the final last one, I promise,' she lied as she naturally breathed, then she grabbed the last scroll, after that, she will head home. Once again, she lied as she naturally breathed.
Flower Master of Recollection

Ability: Controls flowers and can always remember everything through her or the any flowers in the vicinity

The mayor of the village and the chronicler. If anyone wants to find any information about the past, this is the person that you are looking for. She is also strong, but she prefers not to fight anyone and instead write.
She does not like humans, but she also does not dislike them. In short, she is neutral, but she slightly leans on the side of humans more than anything else.

Being the one who can flowers, she can remember everything that has happened, whether from her or through the flowers.

'...You know what? Another one. Also, she doesn't want anyone to know her weakness. Good for her, I guess, but I already know your weakness.' Then she grabs the very last scroll that she will read… probably.
Small Bitter Medicine

A doll that gained sentience is now a doctor at the human village. She may be difficult to approach, but she is a funny person once you get to her.
Do not even try to play her like a doll. She does not like that.
Ability
She can control poison. Ironically, she can make a poison that can nullify and cure any disease. She can use it as self-defense and protect herself from any harm.
Countermeasure
Smash the doll.
Grab any tool, be it magical or not, to completely eliminate her.
"That's it. I checked everything there is to check. I'm going home. Is that alright with you?" Yukari asked as Hieda no Yuuka just said, "Sure. You may leave now. Thank you for helping me and being here, even though you didn't talk much." Yukari nodded and headed home. 'That was fun. Looking at people's basic profile information.' She hum a distant, but vaguely familiar tune from the ancient past. She's much older than she looks. Older than everyone that lives in the realm.
