Chapter 15-Like A Woman Scorned
"Open this door, you filthy bastard!" Kitty screamed as she banged on the door to the small, previously abandoned shack. She'd found renewed energy once she'd spotted the tiny structure with the chestnut gelding in the corral. She figured she'd covered at least three miles, but at least the tracks of the large horse had been easy to follow. She could hear Maggie crying inside the house. Thank God! They're alive!
"Did you hear me?! Open up!" she continued to pound with both fists, her voice nearly hoarse.
Weston slid the large wooden bolt along the width of the door. When he finally opened the door, Kitty nearly fell to the ground, she'd been leaning so heavily on the door. The first thing she saw was Addie, sitting on an old, rickety chair, her hands tied behind her back.
"Addie!" Kitty ran to her daughter's aid, beginning to loosen the ropes around her wrists, "Are you okay?! Did he touch you?" the mother was frantic, "I swear to God, Mister, if you harmed either one of my girls in any way, I'll claw your eyes out!"
Addie sprang up from the chair, throwing her arms around her mother's neck, crying, "Oh, Mama! I knew you'd find us!"
Tears filled both of their eyes as Kitty used her hands to examine Addie's face and arms.
Maggie's crying turned into shrieking, which became hard to ignore. Kitty wrapped her arm around Addie's shoulders and quickly escorted her to the old apple crate Weston had used for a crib. Maggie, bundled in her own pink blanket, tightly closed her eyes, tears streaking down her cheeks. Her whole body shuddered from her wailing.
"There, there, Maggie…Mama's here," Kitty held the baby against her shoulder, gently bouncing her up and down. "What's this all about?" she hissed, directing her attention to Weston.
"You'll find out soon 'nuff. My partner is out, so until then, let's just get comfortable," Weston evilly smiled, reminiscent of Mannon.
Kitty clutched Addie's hand within hers, "My baby needs t' eat," Kitty looked Weston in the eye, daring him to challenge her.
"Ain't nobody stoppin' ya. Why don't ya sit on that bed there," he nodded toward the old single bed up against the wall.
Kitty eyed the bed with the threadbare, faded quilt, realizing she didn't really have much of a choice. She also realized that her captor was going to ogle her the whole time. She knew she needed to protect Addie from witnessing the spectacle.
"Adelaide, you take that chair over there to the corner. Sit on it, facing the wall," Kitty gently commanded.
"But, Mama," the girl began, her eyes wide with fear.
"Do as you're told, young lady," Kitty offered her a weak smile, "and no matter what, you keep your eyes on that wall. Do you understand me?"
"Yes, Ma'am," Addie dragged the chair along the rotten wooden floor boards and positioned herself as her mother had ordered.
Kitty sat on the bed, doing her best to turn her body toward the wall. She slowly unbuttoned the front of her blouse, stopping when Weston joined her on the bed, leaning his back against the wall for a front row seat to the show.
"I just love a room with a view, don't you, Mrs. Mannon?" he licked his lips, noticing Kitty arranging the baby's blanket to cover her breast.
"Ah-ah, no, Ma'am. There isn't a need for that…" he pulled away the blanket. Kitty sighed, rearranged her undergarments, letting a frantic, whimpering Maggie latch. The baby greedily suckled, humming her gratitude, her hands balled up into tiny fists.
"Yuuuuum," Weston exclaimed, "That there looks downright delicious," he licked his bottom lip.
Addie fidgeted in her chair while Kitty kept her eyes focused on Maggie. You've been ogled by men before, ol' gal. Ignore him. Just ignore him.
He leaned over, whispering in Kitty's ear,"Face this way." In order to be allowed to give her baby what she needed, the desperate mother complied. She slowly turned her body so Weston had a full view of her nursing Maggie.
Weston glanced at Addie, who was still facing the wall. He whispered, his breath grazing Kitty's ear, "I'll be tastin' me some a that in a bit. You can count on it," he cupped the bottom of Kitty's covered breast.
Kitty whispered, "We'll just see about that," her cold, blue eyes pierced through Weston's very soul. She could swear she saw him flinch.
Weston left Kitty to her business on the bed and approached Addie. Kitty followed his every move, threatening, "You get away from her…"
"Now, now, Mama bear, it's not me you need t' worry about. In fact, this one here is pretty safe, period," he nodded toward Addie as he leaned against the wall right next to her, "Why, she's the 'golden one'-bein' of Mannon's loins and all."
Neither Kitty nor Addie reacted to the stranger's comments. Good girl, Adelaide, Kitty desperately tried to send her eldest a mental message, Don't correct him. For some reason, this strange notion keeps you safe.
Kitty summoned her courage as she redressed herself, "What difference does it make who her father is?" Kitty asked.
Weston remained near Addie, kindly telling her, "You can turn around now, child. Your mama's done."
Kitty was shocked at the change in the man's tone. He went from sounding sinister to kind in no time at all. His voice sounded so familiar, but she just couldn't identify from where she'd heard it.
"Hey, did them bounty hunters scare ya any? M' partner had that there idea. Spread the word Mannon was still alive 'n worth some money," he then changed the subject, "Ya know, in Deep Ford, this child would be royalty. The town very much misses its protector-the man who kept them safe. Your new husband took care a that, by killin' your first husband."
"Are you out of your mind?!" Kitty stated, shaking her head while burping the baby and motioning for Addie to come sit next to her, "Mannon was a madman. A parasite. He's missed?!"
"You'd be surprised…" he studied his fingernails as he straddled one of the rickety chairs, "My partner seems t' feel whoever possesses the girl, possesses the power," Weston eyed Kitty.
Addie patted Kitty's forearm and whispered something in her ear.
"Mister," Kitty hoped to appeal to his improved mood, "my daughter has to use the outhouse," she held Maggie close to her chest as the baby drifted off to sleep.
"Sure," Weston stood, "but you put that baby back in that crate. She's m' marker," he walked toward Kitty, just in case she protested.
"Please, Mister…she's just a baby," Kitty implored.
"How dumb do I look to you?!"
Kitty gathered the pink blanket that had been confiscated earlier and swaddled the infant. She gently placed Maggie in the crate.
"This way," Weston used his gun to point toward the door. He opened the door and nodded toward the outhouse. "Make it fast. If ya get any bright ideas t' run, your baby won't live t' enjoy another meal."
Kitty quickly escorted Addie to the small outdoor structure. Securing the door, Kitty grabbed Addie by the shoulders, whispering, "He didn't hurt you, did he?"
"No, Mama," Addie replied, readying herself to go to the bathroom.
Kitty continued, "Listen. We only have a minute. I'm gonna distract him outside for a little bit. I'll take him to the rear of the shack. Sweetheart," her blue eyes pleaded with her little girl's, "after we're outside for two minutes, you grab your sister and run!"
"But Mama-" Addie's voice began to shake, "what about you?!"
"I know how t' keep him busy, Honey. You run toward home. Daddy should be here soon," Kitty took her turn on the wooden commode.
"Hurry it up in there, Red!" Weston banged on the rotten door, nearly busting the slats.
"Hold on a second!" Kitty growled.
As the mother/daughter duo exited the outhouse, Kitty let Addie get a few steps ahead of her. Kitty stopped abruptly in her tracks, causing the kidnapper to stumble into her.
"Hey, lady, what's the big-"
Kitty turned so that her body was within two inches of Weston's.
"Listen, Mister…hey, what should I call you?" Kitty spoke with a little bit of sugar in her tone.
Weston grinned, asking, "You really don't remember me, do ya?" using two fingers, he pushed his hat back on his head.
Very softly, Kitty answered, "No, can't say I do," she let her tongue slip out and touch her top lip.
Weston licked his lips, looking at Addie over Kitty's shoulder. He ordered, "You go inside, girl. Keep an eye on yer sister!"
Addie momentarily stared at Kitty, turned on her heel and entered the shack.
Good girl.
The stranger grabbed Kitty's upper arm, rapidly leading her toward the rear of the structure.
"You may not remember me now, but you won't ferget me after t'day," he hissed.
All you men are the same. You disgusting pig.
As they rounded the corner, he whipped Kitty around so she was facing him, her back butted up against the rotting lumber. The back of the shack not only hid them from the child's eyes, but it also provided cover from anyone who may stumble upon them.
"Let me guess, you want to chat," Kitty said sarcastically.
Weston grinned, as if he was going to say something. Instead, with the speed of lightning, he slapped Kitty's face.
She reactively covered her cheek, moving her jaw to make sure nothing was broken. She growled, "What was that for?"
"Just a reminder of who's in charge here, Mrs. Mannon."
"Let's get something straight," she perched her hands on her hips, "It's Dillon."
"Oh, yeah…Dillon," Weston grabbed Kitty by the back of the neck and plundered her mouth with his.
Kitty pushed on his chest, turning her head from side to side, "Just wait…a…second," she gasped. She knew she had to stall for more time. "Just tell me what you want from us," Kitty said softly, studying the ground, "I may be able t' help you get it, before your partner shows up," she wiped her brow, "Then you could take off with everything."
"First things first, Red," Weston sidled up next to Kitty. He tucked a wayward curl behind her ear and whispered, "I want t' taste me some a that milk ya got," he ran his finger along the outline of her breasts.
Stall Kitty, stall. Addie needs time.
Kitty followed his finger as it made its way to her top button. She swallowed hard, looking at him, tears blocking her vision.
He skillfully unbuttoned the first three buttons of her blouse. Kitty closed her eyes and held her breath as he unbuttoned two more. She gasped when he placed his hand inside her blouse, gently squeezing a swollen globe through her chemise. He sloppily ran his thumb over her nipple, letting out a groan, ripping open the rest of her blouse with his available hand.
"God, Woman, no wonder Mannon couldn't get a 'nuff of ya," he buried his face in her hair, "You smell so damn good."
Kitty raised her face to his, "How…how would you know…about any of that?" she cried, tears slowly making a trail down her flushed cheeks.
"I was there. Followed ya…listened outside the door at the hotel," he moaned into her ears, "You made that man so damn happy…I do believe he also made you happy."
Kitty whimpered, trying to keep her mind in the present, while Weston pushed her blouse completely open. She barely spoke above a whisper, "So you're Weston…"
He tugged at her undergarments. The ribbons of her chemise tore, causing him to tug harder. This action fully exposed her breasts, her chest heaving in fear.
"My, God, Red…you're so beautiful," Weston murmured, grabbing Kitty's hand. He placed it on the front of his fly; his arousal obvious.
He lowered his head to her breast, first licking around the nipple. Kitty held her breath and squeezed her eyes shut.
Run, Addie, run!
When he opened his mouth widely around the nipple and suckled, Kitty couldn't stay silent. She involuntarily sobbed, her head turning form side to side.
Run, Addie, run!
Weston groaned, groping her other breast, swallowing what was meant for her baby.
"You idiot! What have you done?!"
The high-pitched shriek pulled Kitty from her living nightmare. She tried to focus on what was happening in front of her, frantically pulling her blouse closed. She blinked furiously, seeing a woman standing over Weston, kicking him with all her might in the midsection.
"Knock it off, Bitch!" Weston shouted, rolling on the ground to avoid the next blow.
Kitty quickly came to her senses and ran for the front of the shack. She needed to make sure Addie had fled with Maggie. Much to the mother's horror, she collided with her daughter as they were both rounding the building, heading for one another.
"Addie!" Kitty whisper-yelled, clutching her daughter's elbows, "What are you doing here?! I told you to-"
Kitty's head suddenly snapped back. Trudy June had grabbed a fistful of Kitty's red tresses and yanked with all her strength.
"You tramp!" Trudy June screamed, waving a gun around, "I should shoot you right here! But I won't…ya know why?!" she sneered, her mouth a straight line, her eyes wild.
Kitty stood upright, buttoning her blouse as quickly as possible. She forced Addie to stand behind her. "Trudy June?" Kitty asked in disbelief, "Is that you?"
"Sure as hell is. Get back in that house! You and the child. NOW! Before I blow ya straight inta hell," she aimed the gun at Kitty's face.
Kitty turned, guiding Addie in front of her. She soothed, "It'll be okay, Baby. I promise."
