…He's dead. My family is dead. I have nothing. I'm all alone in this world. I'm alone. Alone. Alone.
"Nnngh! Hey bae! Can you help me out?" Andariel. The one who took everything from me. Has the audacity to speak to me after what she has done!? I grip the bow tight.
"Andariel Pendragon." I stand. "Understand one thing. That future that you fight for, can only be achieved by yourself." I spread my wings. "Unfortunately for you, my future does not include you." I fly up in the air. "As for the gift, I'm returning it!" I pull the string as far as I can.
"Uh. Bae. You can't shoot witho-'' Pendragon stares in bewilderment. "Is tha-!?"
I'm here.
I don't know if it's my broken mind playing tricks, but I swear I heard his voice just now. An arrow made out of light appears in the bow. "Black Madonna." I infuse the gift into the light and release. The beam travels faster than she should react and pierces her chest. No injury is left behind, but her eyes are devoid of life and she drops to the ground. I land. It's over.
"CHI CHI CHI~!" Hm? The woman from the cavern emerges from the bushes. "Who would've thought that I would stumble upon the corpse of the Overlord herself~!" She looks at me. "Thank you for your help. Now I can finally achieve my breakthrough!" She speaks in tongue and a blinding light is produced on both of their bodies. I turn away. Once the light dims, I look to find Andariel's body, but with the features of the blonde woman. "CHI CHI CHI~! With this form, I can now become the next Overlord! Ungh!?" A black hole appears on her chest. "W-What is this!?"
"Black Madonna. For as long as I live, you will be imprisoned in a space of nothingness. Doomed to be mad, forever counting the seconds of my lifetime." I say with spite.
"AAAAAAAAAH!" She screams in pain, as she feels everything in her body getting sucked in. She finally disappears.
Crime Dancer is weakly trying to stand. "It's okay, girl." I help her up. She trots her way towards Raziel, sniffing his hair. I approach the body and gasp. He's smiling. I don't remember that. I get on my knees and start crying. "You were with me till the end." It's dumb. Talking to a corpse. But I know he was here. "Come on. Let's take you back home." I grab his body. It was only minutes ago that I felt the warmth. Now it's cold. "Let's go, girl."
I left Crime Dancer to very friendly farmers to tend her wounds. They were even nice enough to let me borrow their white sheets to cover the body. I'm now walking towards his village. I flew all the way here. Didn't want to freak anyone out. I hear a trumpet nearby. I guess they spotted me. How am I supposed to explain it to them? What if they think I did it?
I reach the entrance, where everyone is gathered. They gasp, realizing what I'm carrying. I stop. I wonder if this was a good idea. I hear them whispering among themselves.
"Hey!" I flinch hearing that commanding voice. "Who are you carrying!?"
"I-I-It's…" I can't say anything. I have no control over the tears running through my cheeks.
"You idiots!" An old woman yells. "It's obvious who that is."
"But Marge! You can't mean…" one of the Guards doesn't want to believe it. The feeling is mutual.
The old lady walks up to me. "He wrote his name on the memorial. He knew he wouldn't come back alive from that treacherous journey." She unravels the sheet to see his face. "Tell me, was his death painless?" I shakily nod. She turns away. "Good. That gives me peace. Well don't just stand there! Grab him and we'll give him a proper burial." She commands the Guards. They hesitate, but I hand over the body to them.
"Mom, what's going on?" A little girl asks. That must be Mona. She notices me. "Hey! That's the pretty lady that Uncle Razzy went with! Is he here!?" She jumps excitedly. So innocent. I can't imagine how distraught she will be once she knows the truth. The mother has been staring at me the whole time.
"Mona, go inside. The adults are going to talk right now." She says.
"But-!"
"Please. I'll be there in a moment and tell you everything." She says sternly. The girl looks at me, then goes inside the house. She walks up to me and the old lady. "Did she pay?" I nod. She breaks down. "T-Thank you." The woman quietly sobs.
"Here you go." I try to hand over the bow, but the old woman pushes it away.
"Keep it." I don't understand. I guess she noticed my confusion, because she continues. "He must've been important to you, considering you came all this way to drop him off." She gazes where the memorial is located. "We already have something to remember him by." She faces me. "You should too. Plus, I'm positive he would want you to hold it." I stare at Ol' Reliable. Raziel's signature weapon. And it's a damn wooden bow.
I smile at the thought. "Thank you." I let it hang on my shoulder. "I'll be taking my leave. I have other responsibilities to take care of." Not waiting for their response, I fly away. Before anything else, I must claim the title as Mamono Lord.
Five years later
"AaAah." Dear Lord, I'm exhausted. I haven't stopped yawning since this morning. I'm currently taking a break sitting next to the water fountain in the courtyard.
"Rough day again?" Ariel comes out of the water. It's hilarious. That cute nurse I met in Amelia, is now my mermaid with benefits. What a small world we reside in.
I sigh. "I've done nothing but paperwork all week. Who would've thought that being a Mamono Lord was going to be this hard?"
"Well, considering you're the first Lord to actually achieve coexistence with humans, I don't doubt there's a lot of responsibilities you have to take care of now."
"You can say that again. Now I have to write treaties and laws for the other monsters to behave around humans. But the mail arrived, so I took that opportunity to finally take a breather." I pull out one mail. I still haven't checked who the sender is, but I bet it's one of the many people either praising me or another death threat. I open it and it's a letter.
Hello, Ms. Demon Lord. Excuse my rudeness of sending this to your personal address, but I wanted to express my thank you for supporting our village. We've had new people and monsters living together happily. This may be bold of me to ask, but would you stop by as soon as you can? I've been working on a statue for the past three years. And I would appreciate it if you were here to see it. I understand if you can't make it. But it's worth a try.
-Love, Mona
"HUUUUUUUUH!?" Mona? Raziel's niece!? "I have to go somewhere important."
"Where?"
"To Widow's Den. Let my assistant know that it'll take a day for me to be back." I spread my wings and fly away.
I arrive at the village. Never thought I would be here so soon.
"The Demon Lord has arrived!" One of the Guards alert the rest. They gather at the entrance. They salute. "Welcome!" They say in unison.
"Pfft. HAHAHA!" I start laughing. I couldn't control myself with how silly they look. "No need to be so formal. I have been summoned here by someone." A teenage girl appears from the group. It's Mona! And she has the Guards uniform! I approach her. "My. How much you've grown since I last saw you."
She giggles. "Of course! I will be the next defender of the world!" She flashes me with her grin. Woah. Those are some sharp canines. "I can finally show everyone the statue!" She runs towards the middle of the place. We follow her. Seems the entire population has gathered around. There's something hiding behind the white cloth. Mona stands next to it. "Now that everyone is gathered, I will reveal my magnum opus!" She removes the cloth and I'm left speechless.
It's a statue of Raziel. She has captured every small detail of his face and clothing. His sharp eyes, the charming bags, his bow and clothing. I swear, if it started moving, I would not even be surprised with how realistic it looks.
"WOOOO! It looks great, Mona!" That's her mother cheering. Everyone gives their praises and applause. Mona is smiling and blushing. I look at the statue once again.
You may not be present to witness this, but this is the fruit of your sacrifice. And I will make sure to keep fighting to maintain that peace. Until my last breath.
The End
Outro: Nearly Witches - Panic! At The Disco
Dès le premier jour
Ton parfum m'enivre mon amour
Et dans ces instants
J'aimerais être comme toi par moments
Mais depuis ce jour
Je n'ai qu'un seul et unique regret
My wingtips waltz across naive
Wood floors, they creak
Innocently down the stairs
Drag melody
My percussive feet serve cobweb headaches
As a matching set of marching clocks
The slumbering apparitions
That they've come to wake up
Here I am, composing a burlesque
Out of where they rest their necks
Sunken in their splintered cradles
And ramshackle heads, they asked for it
As a girl, you have set your heart on haunting me forever
From the start, it's never silent
Ever since we met
I only shoot up with your perfume
It's the only thing
That makes me feel as good as you do
Ever since we met
I've got just one regret to live through
And that one regret is you
How does a heart love
If no one has noticed its presence
And where does it go?
Trembling hands play my heart like a drum
But the beat's gotten lost in the show
You have set your heart on haunting me forever
From the start, it's never silent
Ever since we met
I only shoot up with your perfume
It's the only thing
That makes me feel as good as you do
Ever since we met
I've got just one regret to live through
And I regret never letting you go!
Ever since we met
I only shoot up with your perfume
It's the only thing
That makes me feel as good as you do
Ever since we met
I've got just one regret to live through
And that one regret is you
Mona Lisa, pleased to please you (and that one regret is you)
Mona Lisa, pleased to please you (and that one regret is you)
Mona Lisa, pleased to please you (and that one regret is you)
