Chapter One
Kit went through the metal detectors at La Brea High after school. But instead of turning left, she turned right, heading in the direction of Maggie's house. As she approached the apartment building, the nameplate next to Maggie's buzzer was replaced with another name. She pressed the white button and waited for someone to answer.
"What?" a gruff voice answered.
"Um, do you know what happened to Maggie Craven?"
"I don't know. I just live here," the voice replied angrily.
"Thank you," Kit said quietly, before releasing the button.
She sat on the bench outside and rested her chin on her fists. If Maggie wasn't here, where was she? And if she had passed away, who would continue teaching her to enhance her power?
Puzzled, Kit got up and walked home. She would do her homework. Then worry about Maggie.
At home, after she finished her homework, she logged onto the computer in her basement. While she was looking up 'Supernatural abilities', a screen name popped up on her buddy list. She double-clicked the name, causing an instant message screen to appear.
She typed : hey psychicfriend
The person replied : hey balletluvr. r u in algebra 2?¿
balletluvr : yeah, y?
psychicfriend : b/c i don't get # 17
balletluvr : i'll help u. but u gotta meet me the fountain 2morrow morning. k?
psychicfriend : ok. btw, i'm serena killingsworth. who r u?
balletluvr : kit summers. i'll c u 2morrow then, right?
psychicfriend : right. c u l8er byaz
