POV Izumi Sogeki
"Come on!" I whined, trying to open the door to the lab. "Just let me go make a couple of batarangs."
"No, by the way there are some small forms to the side of the building," Tony said through my phone.
"Told you he wasn't going to let us in," Melissa said. "Let's go see what he was talking about," she sighed, walking to the side of the building.
"Hey, do you see anything?" a small high pitched voice asked.
"No, the window is too dark," a slightly higher voice said.
"Come on, what if Ms. Fuyumi finds us?" a third voice piped up.
I walked around the corner and saw three small children. One had stark white hair that was cut short and was standing on the shoulders of who I assumed was her twin sister since their faces looked almost identical and the only difference was that the bottom girl's hair was red. The third girl was a little smaller and had a long mane of smokey grey hair and two small round ears that popped out of it. She also had a thick fluffy tail that was the same color as her hair but with a couple of black spots over it.
"Don't worry, we made sure that mom would be distracted," the red haired girl said.
"What if the owners come by?" I asked.
"AH!" all three of them yelped as the white haired girl fell on the red haired one and the third girl got down in a low pouncing position. I noticed some claws came out of her fingers.
"So, I'm guessing you're all from the school just down the road," Melissa said.
"U-um, m-maybe," the white haired girl said.
"What's it to you?" the red haired one asked, her arms starting to form red scales over it.
"There you three are!" a woman yelled.
"Ah, how are you two doing?" Nezu asked.
I turned to see a woman with white hair speckled with red standing in a basic teachers outfit with Nezu on her shoulder.
"Principal, um, good," I said.
"I'm sorry if my daughters and their classmate caused you any trouble," the woman said.
"It's alright, they were just trying to see through the window," Melissa said.
"I'm sorry, I'm Fuyumi Tatsuma and the twins are my daughters, Hanabi and Fuyuka," she said, motioning to the red haired child and then the white. "This is their classmate Yuki."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Izumi Sogeki," I said.
"I'm Melissa Shield," Mel introduced.
"Principal, if you don't mind me asking, why are you here?" I asked.
"Ah, you see the school down the road is technically run and owned by UA, Miss Yuki is actually a ward of UA until her adopted mother graduates," he said. "I just came to inform them that the school is being moved to UA proper as well as to discuss some personal arrangements with Mrs. Tatsuma about the Sports Festival."
"Ah, well don't let us bother you," Melissa said.
"Yeah we were just going to get to work on some things but the door seems to be a little jammed," I said.
"Ah, I believe that if you try again it should open for you soon," he said, winking.
"Oh, you two own this lab, I was under the impression that it was owned by Stark Ind," Tatsuma said.
"Technically it is, but since my father is running the company he had it built for us to use when not able to work on campus," Melissa said.
"Y-you two smell weird," the girl with a snow leopard quirk said. "You don't smell like everyone else."
"Yeah, it smells like you're missing something," Hanabi said.
"Hanabi! You can't say that to people. I know the three of you have enhanced senses and animalistic instincts but you can't just use them!"
"Sorry mom," the young girl said.
"Well, you aren't too far off," I said, looking at Melissa and getting a smile and a nod. "You see, the two of us are different from everyone else. Everyone else you've met has a quirk, but Melissa and I don't. We're what is called quirkless," I explained.
"What do you mean? How can you not have quirks?" Fuyuka asked.
"Well, it's a rare thing that can happen. When you are born there is a chance of not having a quirk but normally it's so small that it almost never happens, but with Melissa and I it did. However, even though we don't have quirks we are training to be heroes," I said.
"Just like Momma," Fuyuka said.
"Fuyu, you aren't supposed to talk about Momma's job," Hanabi said.
"It's alright children, I suppose I would be meeting them and they would figure it out eventually," a mature voice said behind us.
I looked and standing behind Tatsuma was the number eight hero Ryukyu.
"Momma!" the two girls yelled, barreling towards her and hugging her.
"So, you two escaped and dragged Yuki with you huh?" Ryukyu asked.
"Um, m-maybe," Hanabi said.
"Yuki, why did you listen to them?" a bubbly voice asked.
"Mommy!" the small cat-child yelled, running on all fours and jumping into the arms of a girl with periwinkle hair wearing a blue and green costume.
"Ah, Ryuko and Ms. Hado, a pleasure to see you," the principal said.
"Hello love, Nejire, if you want to take Yuki now her stuff is in her cubby like normal," Tatsuma said.
"Alright," the periwinkle haired girl said. "Um, principal, who are these people?"
"These are two of the first year hero students," Nezu said.
"They said they are q-quirkless," the small girl in her arms said, struggling with the last word.
"Oh, so you are the two quirkless students? That's so cool! I'm amazed at how you can keep up with everyone using nothing but technology," she said, zooming over to us as the girl in her arms squealed in joy.
"So, I'm guessing you wanted to see why I hadn't responded yet," Ryukyu said, looking at the principal.
"Indeed, though, since you are here I suppose I could introduce you to two of our greatest hero course students you'd be watching," Nezu said, looking at us.
"Ah, the two quirkless ones," she said, sizing us up. "I'm expecting a lot from you two, don't disappoint me please," she said, smirking. "I'll be there as long as you can guarantee that he won't be able to talk to, let alone see, us," she said, looking at Nezu.
"I'll put you in my personal box with the board members," he said, smiling.
"Perfect, now let's get going home," she said, picking up the two kids with ease. "It was a pleasure meeting you two. You will be an inspiration to many as well as a threat to even more. I can't wait to see what you two do," she added, looking at Melissa and myself.
"It was nice meeting you two and sorry if Yuki caused any problems," Hado said, flying off next to the dragon hero who was walking away with the other woman and two children.
"Well, that was slightly an unexpected turn of events, but I think it was good for the whole," Nezu said, standing next to us.
"She didn't talk us down or say we can't do it or that she wants us to fail or anything," I said, looking at the dragon hero and the flying girl playing with her daughter mid-air in amazement.
"Yes, Ryukyu, unlike most of the top ten, is very supportive of anyone who is at a disadvantage and always roots for the underdog as you might say," Nezu said. "Oh, since you are here I can tell you, talking to the teachers we have decided that since you are both a hero and support students you can bring some gear that you have made with you to the festival but there will be a limit. We haven't decided what it would be but are currently saying somewhere near five, and your batarangs as you have called them would count as one, but you could bring multiple, same with your disks," Nezu explained.
"Thank you, that will actually help us with planning," Melissa said.
"Not a problem, now I will be off. I do have a school to run and a festival to prepare for," he said walking down the road.
"That was weird right?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Alright, let's go in and plan what all we are bringing as well as what we can do to help Hatsume get into the hero course. I know she wants armor similar to Iron-Man, but we can't let her do that because of legal reasons. Wait, there was that old Avenger Falcon, he used wings to fly and while they weren't Stark tech," I started, heading to the door.
"We could help her build a set enabling her to fly," Melissa finished.
I reached for the door handle and opened the door.
"Thank you Tony," I sighed.
"Just don't do too much," he said, appearing at the desk as if he was a secretary.
"We won't," Melissa said. "We are just going to start designing the wings."
"Actually, even though they weren't Stark tech Tony kept the schematics for them. I can just give them to you and you can adjust as needed," he said.
"That will be very helpful, pull them up in meeting room one and then set the room to lockdown," I said, walking into the room.
Once the two of us were in the door locked and we got to work.
POV Melissa Shield
It was a dark raining night.
"That movie was so amazing, mommy!" child me said.
"Yes, it was Melissa," she said, looking down at me with her bright blue eyes.
We were walking down an alley from the theater to our car. A man turned down the alley in the direction we were heading and started to walk towards us.
"Give me you purse lady!" he said, pulling a gun out and pointing it at my mother.
"Sir, you know that there are heroes in the city, they will get you if you fire that weapon," my mother said.
"Just shut up and give me your purse or I'll shoot you and your kid!" he said, moving the gun to me.
"I will not let myself be threatened by some thug," my mother said, glaring at him.
"I said, give me your purse!" he said, leaping forward and grabbing her pearl necklace.
There was a snap and then a gunshot followed by the sound of pearls hitting the ground.
"AH!" I screamed as my mother fell to the ground.
"Tell me kid, you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?" the man asked, grabbing her purse and running out of the alleyway.
"I am he-Melissa? Martha!" Uncle Might appeared at the end of the alley.
He carried the two of us to the closest hospital, but it was too late.
"Gah!" I gasped, sitting up quickly in my bed. I was clammy and breathing erratically.
"Mrow," Fury meowed, jumping on my lap.
"Hey, I'm fine," I said, petting his dark brown, fluffy fur.
That's the third time I've had that nightmare since the USJ. I might need to start seeing someone. I thought.
I got up and went to my desk and pulled out the pearls I kept in a box. I fixed the necklace that my mother had worn that night. I looked at them before putting them back. I looked at the time and realized it wasn't too long before I would normally get up for classes and since it was Monday it was our first day back. I got dressed and went to the normal spot where Izumi was waiting, making me smile.
"Hey Mel, are you alright?" she asked, looking at me worriedly.
"Yeah, I just woke up early because I was breathing cat fur," I lied.
"Ah, alright," she said, putting her hand out.
I took it and we walked to UA ready for whatever came our way.
AN-
Originally I wasn't going to write this and just jump to Monday and what happened then but someone gave me a good idea since I had written something that could've been misunderstood. Now then, we met some important characters for later in the fic that I was going to introduce when they were relevant, but now seemed like a good time to. I will admit the idea for the twins was given to me by a friend but the other child is actually loosely based on one of my D&D characters. As for why Nejire is watching over her, there's a reason, but that's for future chapters. Next chapter will be a montage of Izumi and Melissa training and helping Hatsume prepare for the Sports Festival. Make sure to follow, favorite, comment, and kudos! Link Out!
