This is Part III of the Veterans Day Special. Last time, we finally got an explanation as to how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got into the Injustice World. And at the same time, Athanasia al Ghul, the last surviving member of the bloodline, joined the Republic, bringing the League of Assassins into the fold of the factions as the Regime made plans to track down other multiversal visitors in this world. So, what is the next mission? Read on to discover...
(Our scene begins in a mountainous region of China, where we see the Javelin 7 descending into a hidden valley. As it lands, we see several people exit: Blaze, Supergirl, Flash, Belial Aether, Starfire, Blue Beetle, and Firestorm, here on a mission)
Blaze: Are you sure this is the place, Belial?
Belial Aether: If our latest readings are to be believed, this is the place. The old Shaolin Temple should be somewhere up this mountain.
Supergirl: Any details on this signature?
Starfire: Two strange figures have been seen in the old temple. Travellers have felt unusually cold temperatures and reported seeing snow on the grounds.
Firestorm: What is this? A ghost?
Starfire: And that's not all, Firestorm. Every night, lightning has struck the old temple. And no storms have been sighted in the area for two weeks.
Blue Beetle: Sounds like it could be Black Adam.
Flash: Except nobody's seen him since Metropolis. As far as anyone knows he's still in Kahndaq.
Blaze: It's still a pretty good theory. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled for the Regime. (To Belial Aether) Chances are Damian's told them about your other recruits, so they'll likely be looking into these signatures.
Belial Aether: Well, I guess we'll see when we get up there. It's a long climb from here.
Supergirl: You do realize most of us can fly, right?
Belial Aether: I don't know about you, but I'm walking. Need to get the steps in today.
Flash: Guess I'll be joining you then.
Blaze: We'll meet you at the top then.
(And with that, the team members capable of flight take flight towards the old Shaolin Temple, while Flash and Belial Aether take the trail up the mountain, contemplating their lives up to this point)
Flash: Just when I thought the world couldn't surprise me anymore, now we're dealing with the infinite multiverse.
Belial Aether: Sounds like you've been through a lot in your day.
Flash: Let's just say I've been on a journey of moral redemption the last couple of years.
Belial Aether: Meaning?
Flash: When the Regime initially began, I was part of it. Superman had managed to suede me to his side. Only after Blaze and company came did I realize I was on the wrong side. Turned myself in once it all ended.
Belial Aether: Good call.
Flash: You sound like you're speaking from experience.
Belial Aether: When you've been alive for as long as I have, you regret a lot of people you work with.
Flash: No wonder you and Vandal Savage get along.
Belial Aether: We've both got the regrets of centuries on our backs.
Flash: Then we're both working at redemption.
Belial Aether: So what brought you back to the fight?
Flash: As much as I tried to avoid it, Batman still needed my aid. I'm risking my parole by even doing this.
Belial Aether: Something tells me the courts will go easy on you after seeing the good you've done.
Flash: I can only hope so.
Belial Aether: (Chuckles slightly) Look at us, chatting like old friends when we're from as disparate of universes as one can get.
Flash: (Sees the humor in the situation) It is a little odd.
(At this point, Blaze flies in beside them)
Blaze: The bond of warriors is one alike across the multiverse. I bet you could bring warriors of light from any world into the same room, and they'd have the same sort of camaraderie.
Belial Aether: That's certainly something, isn't it.
Flash: Can't say I disagree.
(And just like that, the group has arrived at the old Shaolin Temple)
Supergirl: You enjoy the hike?
Belial Aether: It was certainly insightful.
Flash: You can say that again.
(But the second Blaze touches down, she recoils slightly.)
Firestorm: Everything okay?
Blaze: Something's wrong. We're not alone.
Blue Beetle: Wasn't that literally the reason we're here?
Blaze: No. It's something... vile. Something... dark. I can't place a claw on it. But something is very wrong here.
Starfire: You're starting to worry me, Blaze.
Belial Aether: She's not wrong. I can sense it too. With every fiber of my being. Something is here that should not exist.
Blaze: Whatever it is, it proves one thing, we're not the only ones seeking the source of these signatures. We need to proceed with caution.
(With that, the seven proceed deeper into the old Shaolin Temple. But in the darkness, something familiar rests: a pair of green glowing eyes, and with them, a devilish smile)
Joker: Oh if only you knew...
(With his ominous line delivered, Joker slips through the shadows back to his forces ending our scene for today.)
This concludes Part III of the Veterans Day Special. For the Finale, head on over to the Dissidia Final Fantasy Intros. Admittedly, this is not where I initially planned this chapter as going. What I did plan will be coming in the next few chapters, that much is for sure. Guess I got caught up in the conversation between Flash and Belial Aether, since they'd have to walk up the mountain the old-fashioned way. Fitting we have a conversation about the camaraderie of ally warriors on Veterans Day. So, what awaits our seven heroes within the old temple? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
