Author's Note-
I do not own the Sonic Characters. I do, however, own a few. If you steel them, I'm a lawyer. You die. Ok, not really, but my friend says I'm her lawyer! ^-^ Anyway, I own the following Characters that are in this chapter and are yet to come: Esperanza, Blacky, Alex, Kimi, Koko, Steven, Daisy, Smokey, Carrie, Hilary, Jessica, Annie, Meko, Melly, Tom, Bethany, Elizabath (friend's request on the spelling), Emily, Sarah, Destani, Leffin, Ragini, Roangi, Sheikai, Dreama, Draconic, FlameShine, Desitria, Nightmare, blah blah blah... Ok, there may be more later, but for now, it's just these guys! Hope you enjoy my story!
Important! This is a bit of a strange story, because I've kind of combined both Earth and Mobeus. Basically, It's like Earth with Station Square and all, but like Mobeus because of all the Sonic-like characters. It's not really too confusing, but it is a bit strange for some people that it's a mix. If you don't think you'd understand it, maybe you shouldn't read. I hope you like it anyway! ^_^;;

The Black Fox
By Deystar
Prologue-
The Black Fox Tribe was a happy one. All the black foxes lived by their own rules, not the ones of the ruling foxes, the golden foxes, like all the other tribes. That could be why most foxes hated that tribe. But the black foxes just thought, as the lowest ranked tribe, they should at least be happier and different than the other, higher raked tribes. The other nine tribes didn't agree, though. They didn't even consider them foxes. The list of fox tribes by rank is as followed. Golden Fox Tribe Silver Fox Tribe White Fox Tribe Yellow Fox Tribe Orange Fox Tribe Red Fox Tribe Green Fox Tribe Brown Fox Tribe Grey Fox Tribe
10) Black Fox Tribe
The Tribes also each had a shard of the Chaos
Crystal. A thousand years ago, the foxes lived in peace under Golden
rule. Their greatest possession had been the great crystal, but as the
tribes started to fight over their qualities, the crystal broke into ten
shards; the gold shard, silver shard, white shard, yellow shard, orange
shard, red shard, green shard, brown shard, gray shard, and black shard.
The shards told them of their tribes best quality, which was as followed. Gold is Leadership. Silver is Loyalty. White is Helpfulness. Yellow is Bravery Orange is Courageousness Red is Cunning. Green is Athletic Ability. Brown is Speed. Gray is Fighting Ability.
10) Black is Value of Life and Independence
Their independence worked against them
many times. During hunting, other tribes sometimes attacked them. Their
food was stolen from them. Their supplies, destroyed in the morning. But
they managed to keep together, and were happy for the blessing of life.
Still, as the attacks on their tribe got worse, they remained
independent. They believed everything would somehow work out.
The tribes of foxes sometimes had children that had
two-five tails. They took pride in their many tailed children.
However, if a child was born two or
more colored, it was custom in the tribes to have it killed. The black
foxes, however, didn't follow that rule. They would somehow dye the
child's fur permanently black. They valued life over all they had, and
gave the "unworthy" children another chance.
Sometimes a member of the black tribe would have a child
with dark gray at the end of its tail and on it's face. This didn't
count. That had been decided by the golden foxes many centuries ago. They
believed it to just be lighter black.
One morning, at dawn, a baby black fox was born. It was
custom to show the baby to the golden foxes after it has been named, even
in the black fox tribe. But this baby was special. She had the lighter
black fur and had many tails. She had ten of them! A ten tailed fox in
the black fox tribe? What a miracle! It was a real honor having a fox
with over five tails. There had never before been one with over five
since a hundred years ago with the seven tailed fox, so this was a big
deal.
They named her Esperanza, which means to hope,
and she brought her tribe hope when they looked into her ruby red eyes.
When brought before The Golden Chief, Gary, He
was outraged. His mate had given birth to a six-tailed gold fox a month
ago. How dare they get a better child?
Still, there was a celebration for her and he
pretended to be glad. Then, afterwards, started to plot their demise,
every last one of those black foxes.
"What-cha doin' daddy?" His daughter, Jessica, said. "Remember
the black foxes, Jess?" "Ya, what about them?" "Well, Jess, they are very
bad foxes. And I have to stop them from trying to overcome us."
Ch.1
Evil Days
They lived in peace only five days after her birth. Then, war broke out between the black and golden tribes. All the other tribes, even the grays, who are the black's greatest allies, sided with the golden tribe, either out of fear or loyalty. Esperanza's father, Trinity, was a great warrior, and had to go into battle for the lives of the blacks.
Esperanza learned to walk and talk faster than normal, in two weeks. She soon understood what the war meant.
"Mama, will daddy survive out there?" she asked. "We have to hope so, Esperanza. Just as your name suggests." Her mother, Physaya, was worried. She could tell. How was she to be brave now? When even her mother, who feared nothing, was scared?
The war lasted ten years. Many of the black foxes were killed, including all five of Esperanza's older brothers, her only siblings. Her father, the greatest of their warriors, had been killed as well. Many of their number had now been destroyed.
Esperanza had been there when her father died. He had been in intensive care at their medical center. He had many bandages, IV's, and other things she didn't know the name of. His eyes, once a brilliant sapphire blue, were pale, lifeless. She was nine at the time, very young for something like this to happen. She was confused, and grabbed his hand, crying. Being surrounded by white had also panicked her, making her feel boxed in, sort of. She had suddenly let go of his hand right after he died, like the hand had zapped her. She had grabbed her tails for comfort, as she sometimes did, and buried her head in them.
Now, she had been taking fighting lessons for two years after the war. She mastered archery, swordsmanship, the spear, and her hands, feet, and tails, just like her father had. She finally felt safe after that. If she only knew what came next. She was babysitting her little friend, Blacky, a sweet two-year old boy born after the war. Then, it happened.
It was told that every thousand years, Ragini, the most powerful of the Echidonian snake gods, would come and destroy one of the tribe's populations, though there were always some survivors. It came when it was ready to lay its two eggs. It would mate with Roangi, the second most powerful god. They would both die and were said to be reborn from the two eggs. The foxes didn't believe in it as a god, just a monster, as all other creatures saw it.
It came after a hurricane started. Whirling tornadoes and flashes of lightning filled the area outside, and Blacky was scared. Esperanza held him close. He was so soft, like a silk doll. He shivered. She could have cried. He reminded her of the children at her day- care after the war that lost family. Then, she appeared.
She was a giant snake, over one hundred feet long. She was mainly black, with golden stripes across her body and a red streak on her forehead. She had the sharpest fangs Esperanza had ever seen, and red echidna like spikes on her head. She was at the black tribe, out of all the others. Why? They were dying out. What would happen to them? She knew what to do. She ran outside, and turned to the little bomb cellar just to the right of the door. Running as fast as she could down the stone steps, her ruby eyes whirled about, and her eyes fell upon the little crib in the corner. She walked over to it, and set the little boy down. "I see you later?" He asked. "Maybe. I can't promise you, but I promise I'll try to come back, ok? Don't make any noise, no matter what happens." He nodded, and she left to help in the struggle.
When she got there, a heart-breaking scene met her eyes. Her mother was wrapped in the monster's tail, near dead. She stared at this for a while, before running up and flying at the giant snake.
If you thought the green and brown's had speed and agility, you had never seen Esperanza in flight. She flew strait to her mother and bit down hard between two of the scales. Ragini let go, and then set her sights on Esperanza. She lunged, and Esperanza dodged. She kept getting at Esperanza, with no luck until she gabbed her by the tails. Esperanza struggled, blood trickling down her body as she was held upside down. She whimpered, and then was suddenly on the ground. Blacky's mother had flown at the giant with incredible speed. "Esperanza, you have to get out of here. You still have a chance. You're young. You deserve to live. Take care of Blacky if I die, ok?" Was the faint scream from Mrs. Smith. "Alright." She replied. "If...you're sure..." She ran towards the shelter to stay with Blacky. As she was going, she was hit in the back with the creature's giant tail.
Her back bleeding, now she was mad. Her little tribe was about to be destroyed, just because the monster had come here first? Why not the Golden Tribe? They were the most plentiful tribe! Why not them? Her mind raced and she was going somewhere, she didn't know where; she believed instinct would take her where she needed to be. Suddenly, she was before their great emerald shard. Without waiting for some sort of sign or anything, she ran up to it and picked it up.
It was about the size of her head. She felt she should hold onto it. Then, suddenly, it started to glow a little; she was picked up from the ground and was strangely calm. It was a weird feeling, like none she'd ever before experienced. She just knew what to do; it wasn't instinct, just some strange kind of knowledge.
She closed her eyes and concentrated on her enemy. Then, the great snake, lunging at a nearby fox, shot up into the air! It flew up higher and higher until you could hardly see it. Then, it fell at increasing speeds, towards the ground. Then, it flew to the sides, bumping into rocks and trees every few seconds. Psychic abilities? Did her whole tribe have them? Maybe, but now she had to fight, not think. She concentrated, then Ragini flew once again into the air, slammed back on the ground again, and slithered away, defeated.
She ran to the shrine and put the shard back; she didn't need it now. She walked through her village, looking for survivors. She found the dead bodies of her tribe everywhere she looked. She spotted Mrs. Smith, and ran to her.
"Mrs. Smith?" She cried. "Esperanza...take care...of Blacky for me, ok?" "Yes, I will. I'm so sorry." "It's ok...you saved someone. I know you did...good-bye..." the face of her neighbor was covered in blood. Slowly, her eyes closed, leaving Esperanza back to her search for survivors.
She came to the shelter. Slowly, she walked inside. She wondered what she would find. "Esperanza? You back?" She was relieved to hear the faint voice of her little neighbor. "Yes Blacky, I'm back." "Esperanza!" The little fox jumped with joy to see his babysitter; to know he was not alone. She picked him up. "Blacky, I know this will come as a shock, but you remember when I told you what happened to your daddy?" "Yes, he got killed." Blacky looked so curious and innocent. "Well, the village was attacked, by the mortal enemy of the foxes. Remember the story in preschool about the giant snake?" "Ragini come?" "Yes. She came. And all the villagers are dead. I'm looking for someone who's alive. I only found you so far..." She looked into his deep blue eyes. They showed her sadness. "My mommy gone." It wasn't a question, but she answered, "Yes." He picked up one of her tails and cried into it, but she didn't mind; she was near tears herself.
They got outside, and Blacky looked around. Then, he cried into her tail even harder, causing her eyes to tear up as well.
They looked for over an hour, before they were sure everyone was dead. Then, near the shrine, a faint cry was heard.
"Mother!" she screamed, running to her. "Esperanza, you're both in danger. The chief of the golden tribe sent his daughter over here, and she saw you use your power. Yes, you're power, only you have it. She told her father by now, no doubt. He'll have you both killed if he finds out you're name. Luckily, he never asked your name when you were born, but young Jessica must have heard the foxes calling to you to save yourself.
"You must change your name, both of you, and get out of here. And if anyone asks, you were both exiled before this event. You are now known as Maria and Christopher, all right?"
"Yes mother." Esperanza sobbed. "Ok miss Esperanza's mommy." Blacky cried.
"She's Maria now, don't call her that. His name is changed because the chief of the golden tribe knew you babysat him, even though they knew not who you were.
"Esperanza, I must tell you something that will not be easy. Even though he's ten years younger, if he lives, the only hope for our tribe is you two." "Mother, what are you saying?" "I'm telling you, my daughter, as long as he lives, you must not fall in love." "I will try, mother." "Good." There was a weak smile upon her face, looking for the last time into her daughter's eyes. "Your eyes still bring me hope. Sayonara, Esperanza, the fox." And with that, her eyes closed.
Esperanza had let go of her hand as she did her father, and her dam of tears broke. She grabbed her tails for comfort, and noticed Blacky was nowhere in sight. "Christopher?" she yelled, panic running through her. Then, she heard the faint reply "I'm here, Maria." She ran up, to see the little fox curled up on the ground. "I'm scared." He cried. "I'm scared too, but we better set out, we'll camp out on that hill, ok?" "The one over the village?" "Yup." "Ok, that's my favorite one." He got up and helped her pack a backpack full of food and supplies, the only food and supplies left. Then, they hiked up the largest hill in the valley of the black foxes, which they had to leave forever.
I do not own the Sonic Characters. I do, however, own a few. If you steel them, I'm a lawyer. You die.
