{Tara's POV}
It was only a 10 minute walk away, so I had enough time to think about how I was going to test mom. I knew she was going to pass, she was as stubborn as me and Martha were, so I just had to think about how long we'd go for until I let her pass.
I was still thinking when I reached the cake shop, and didn't notice the other redhead that just came out of the store. I DID notice her though when we crashed. The girl I walked into looked to be my age, an inch or two shorter then me, and had hair a slightly brighter shade of red then mines. Her hair was flowing down like mine was, there was even an anime ahoge, and she even had blue eyes too, though hers were more of a greenish tint then my baby blue ones. She had a nice red sweater, and had a black skirt and stockings on. Adding on her slip on shoes too, she made for a cute kid.
While I was looking at her, she was looking at me. Her eyes lingered on my hair and eyes before they reached my sweater. And I swore I saw a spark in her eyes. I didn't know of what, but I recognized it. We just looked at each other until she ended up speaking first.
"You're a woman of culture aren't you?" I checked where she was looking, and realized my spare sweater was a bleach sweater with Ichigo's hollow mask over my heart.
When I realized that, I swore I felt the strongest sense of Deja-Vu in my life. "This is the start of something great. I just know it." She grinned at me and we helped each other up. {Hey sis, I think I just found a new bestfriend.}
I got back a feeling of amusement for that comment, and I could even feel some curiosity in the mix. [Oh really? And what's her name?]
I blinked, and realized I'd claimed her without knowing her name. {Uhh, give me a sec.} After we got back up, I helped pick up the box she dropped, and found it was miraculously ok. Fucking anime logic right there! Anyway, I needed to get this ball rolling. "The name's Tara Sakura, what about you?" Easy convo starter, and didn't seem awkward at all.
My potential new bestfriend grabbed the box of cake, and smiled at me. "Rias Gremory, and I think you're right about that Sakura-san." A siren went off in my mind, and I just KNEW I recognized her name from somewhere. Though, given the fact that years have gone by, and I didn't really know the plot of DxD before I dropped it, I had no clue how important to the plot she was.
{Her name's Rias.} If I didn't know, I was hoping Martha did.
[Ok. Am I supposed to know her?] That stumped me for a second. I knew I told Martha about anyone I could remember from when I watched the anime, so if she didn't know if this girl was important, then either she wasn't, or the both of us just forgot...
{Dunno. But she's got taste, so she's my friend now.}
[Uhuh... Whatever you say Tara.] Well damn...
Anyway, I looked at the redhead in front of me, and decided to play it by ear. If she was important, then we'd go from there, and if she wasn't, see last answer. "So, whatcha doing here Gremory-san?" She just gave me an amused look, and turned her gaze at the box holding her cake, then back at me. "Ok smartass. Verbally this time?" That got a laugh out of her.
"I'm getting something for a friend of mine with a sweet tooth. How about you Sakura-san?"
"Getting some cakes for me, my sister, and our mom. Wanna come with?" She had to think on that. It'd make sense considering she literally just met me, but eventually she settled on coming with. Whether that was because I was a child instead of a grown woman asking, or because she just felt like it, I had no idea.
Without much fanfare, I bought our cakes, and me and Rias left the cake shop after I had them. "So Gremory-san, out of the big three, what's your favorite?" This was an important question, one that would define our newfound friendship.
"Naruto. No question." Eww. While I liked the big fuzzy monster with 9 tails, I didn't like Naruto itself. You'd think that I would, given I liked big fights and explosions and shit, but I just couldn't get into the series for some reason.
I grabbed my heart, and the hollow mask logo, and gasped in mock pain as I looked at my fellow redhead. "Heathen! I thought you were one of me! How could you betray me so quickly?!" The laugh that roared out her throat was great. She was definitely one of my people. To commemorate this, I shot over a quick message to Martha. {She's one of mine! Suck it Martha!}
The drawling monotone that went through my mind nearly made me crack up. [Oh joy of joys.] She was just jealous.
Rias and I kept talking, and eventually we got to the topic of school. "So Sakura-san, where do you go to school?"
"I'm home schooled for now. Though me and my sister are going to test into Kuoh when we're highschool age. What about you Gremory-san?"
That seemed to surprise her. Did she never meet someone home schooled? Or was it something else? I didn't know and didn't feel like asking. "I'll be going to Kuoh's junior high division in a couple of years." That HAD been an option for us, but neither of us wanted to spend a few years with immature brats, so we passed on it.
"Ooh, nice. You'll probably see my mom around there then. She's a P.E teacher."
Now that got her attention for some reason. "Really? Wait a minute... Sakura... I've heard that name before..." Watching her cowlick flick from side to side as her face scrunched up into a frown, I had to use every ounce of maturity to not pinch her cheeks and squeal like a schoolgirl. "Aha! Is your mother Illiya Sakura-sensei?!" She damn near squealed the last part out, and I had no idea why.
"Uhhh... Yeah? Why." That just set her off even more.
Needing an answer as to why my new bestfriend was fangirling over my mom, I did the logical thing and asked my sister. {Hey Martha, can you ask if mom's famous? My new bestfriend is squealing like an excited pig.} I got a mental snort back, and had to wait for Martha to respond.
Me and Rias were still heading home, but she was practically clinging onto my arms as I dragged her home. [She says she doesn't know.]
{How would she not know if she was famous?}
[While that is a decent question, the answer remains the same. If mother is famous, then she doesn't know it.]
{Greaaaat.}
{I can hear the sarcasm in that Tara, you don't need to send it along as well.}
{Whatever.}
A few minutes later, we were at our front door and the Security Wards keyed Rias in temporarily. When we walked in though, I think I felt her tense a little bit, but I wasn't sure.
We walked right in and saw mom on the couch, with Martha sitting right next to her watching a Sailor Moon rerun. Martha mentally hummed as she looked over Rias, and I could tell she already figured something out, if the glint in her eyes was any indication. Mom though, she just smiled at me, and also at the box holding our cakes, which I'd put by the counter by the front door. While she might not share Martha and I's strawberry addiction, she was an unrepentant Red Velvet crack whore, and proud of it.
Seeing a celebrity(?), Rias went back to fangirling over mom, practically teleporting over to her side as she started talking, and also enjoying the fact that we had anime on. Though, while she talked to mom, I looked to Martha, and needed to mention this injustice. "How're you going to rake on me for being a weeb, when you're watching Sailor Moon? The fuck is this double standard?"
Their response was instantaneous. ""Language."" Mom hadn't even looked away from Rias, while Martha just rolled her eyes as she rebuked me.
"Oh c'mon!" Rias just observed the byplay and went back to chatting with our mom. That's how we found out that mom had a following and title of 'Most Gorgeous Teacher on campus', and I swore I could physically SEE her ego inflating before my eyes. Even Martha could see it.
{[The fuck?]} We just looked at each other and neither of us knew what to do.
[You brought her here! Take her away, quickly!] I sent over my annoyance but I still did it.
"Hey Gremory-san, wanna see my room?" Her eyes lit up up like jewels and she practically leaped at the offer. I led her up the stairs and over to my room, where she immediately zoned in on my shelves of manga and anime. But then she laid her eyes on the Fairy Tail poster above them...
And I swore I could hear something click in her mind. "Red hair, blue eyes instead of brown, likes strawberry, has an eye covered, sounds exactly like her..." It helped that she was muttering what she was thinking. Then she turned to me, and the amount of excitement in her eyes scared me. "Oh my MAOU! YOU'RE ERZA!" I didn't know how to take that...
(I mean... Atleast she didn't say I was a fangirl..?) My immediate thought was nearly drowned out by the responses of my sister and mom.
""HAH!"" It wasn't helping that Martha was RADIATING amusement at me.
"NOT NOW YOU TWO!" There was a part there that my mind saved for later, but that was later and this was now. "Anyway, I'll be better then Erza! Just you wait!"
"You admitted it! You're ERZA!" Ah fuck. I think she heard 'I and Erza', and didn't register the rest of the sentence. She was all over me at that point. If I didn't think we'd be bestfriends before then, I definitely did now that we were talking Anime and Manga.
Rias was in my room for like 15 minutes before we heard someone ring the doorbell. We were curious, so we left my room and peeked over the wall as Martha went to open the door. Standing at our front door was a girl with long black hair tied to a high ponytail, a pretty face and violet eyes, wearing what looked like she a miko outfit. Huh... Whatever.
"Hello, this is the Sakura residence, how can we help you?" Martha went straight to the point.
"Hello, I believe a friend of mine is here? Is there a foolish redhe-... Hmm, a foolish girl who was supposed to buy a cake and be back home a half hour ago?" The girl had to correct herself when she realized both Martha and mom were redheads.
Speaking of redheads. "Akeno! Up here!" Said girl was waving at this 'Akeno' as if she wasn't just insulted. I feel like Martha and mom would like this girl solely because of that. Why did I suddenly feel a chill when I had that thought?
I didn't have much time to think about that further since Rias ran down the stairs to join her friend. I heard her say 'I met Erza!' And groaned mentally. The 'Akeno' girl looked up to me, and I could see the amusement and the sadistic light that shone in her eyes. I realized why I felt that shiver now. I'm pretty sure Martha saw it too, but she was only half worried and half expectant. [I think I just found my new bestfriend as well.]
I hated her with every bone in my body. {Oh you spiteful bitch.}
[I love you too oh sister of mine.] I gave up. I just went to grab my strawberry cake, and left for my room.
But not before Rias said called out to us. "Sakura-san, can I come over sometimes?"
"""Sure./Which one?/Who?""" Mom, Martha and I answered in that order.
Rias looked like a child on Christmas morning when she got her confirmation. And after a happy squeal and wave, they left. I was going to get into my room and gorge myself on cake when Martha stopped me. "So... What are they?"
"Huh?" The deadpanned look she gave me confused me even more.
"The wards read them as non human. Tara... Did you just bring an unknown entity into our home and not even realize it?" I had to give my brain time to process that, and when it did I noticed I never did smell Rias. I was too focused on getting our cakes and had that smell fill my nose. But now that she mentioned it, Rias did make that 'Maou' comment in place of god...
The answer flashed through my head like a flash of lightning, and I felt like the biggest idiot in the world. "Oh son of a bitch! She was a Devil!"
""What?!"" Martha and mom had completely different reactions to that news.
Martha felt like she was one move away from beating the shit out of me, again, and mom was intrigued. "You sure honey? She didn't look like a soul stealing demon to me." We both turned to our mother, who was still watching sailor moon, and both wondered what to say.
"Well, if Tara says she was a devil, then I'm assuming that's what she was. I'll key the wards into any signatures like that and label them correctly." What went unsaid, verbally though. [But know this, we will talk about this later!]
{Yes ma'am!} With that said, she started to walk away.
"No mental threatening while I'm talking!" Did she just click her tongue at our mother? Was she still annoyed by our fight from earlier? "Anyway, as I was saying. She seems like a good girl."
"How much of that is you being genuine verses her inflating your ego like a bouncy castle?" Mom just seemed to pause for a minute, and I thought I could see her doing calculations in her mind.
"50/50?" I just raised a brow at my mother. "Ok, 60/40." I gestured for her to elaborate, and she started fidgeting in place. "40 genuine... 60 because she let me know I was considered the baddest bitch on campus.'" If it wasn't for my dragon hearing, I might not have caught that.
But thank gods I did. "Language!" The sheer annoyance on my mothers face when I said that was so worth it. I went to my room, laughing all the way. The cake helped me take my mind off of inviting a literal devil into our house. I would've never guessed she was a devil, she was pretty much a normal girl. Hell, if I didn't decide to look like Erza, I'd probably be seen as a normal girl too until I slammed someones face in with my tail.
I thought about where we might go from here, and decided that as long as she didn't threaten our family, I'd give her a chance. With that sorted, I started to prepare for mom's test. I needed something light and breathable, so I settled for a silver sports tank top and shorts that stopped above my knees. I decided to put my hair up in a ponytail, and grab some good sneakers. When I was ready, I went downstairs and saw mom come out of her room with a ponytail like mine, a good sports bra, which did not make me jealous no matter how long my eyes stared at her chest, and form fitting yoga pants that also did nothing to my jealousy. She had a jacket in one hand and her purse in the other.
Meanwhile, Martha just stayed in the spare clothes I brought her, sandals, a blouse that looked like a smaller version of Erza's, and some jeans. "We ready to go?" I looked at mom and nodded. She walked ahead, and I fell in alongside Martha.
The gym was 5 minutes away, and I was surprised I didn't see it when I went out for my walk. It was already open, and I could see people filtering it. It was a 2 story building, which seemed to have normal gym equipment on the first floor, and fighting rings on the second. We all just walked up to the second floor, ignoring the stares directed at mom, or glaring at them whenever they got too annoying, I learned the Erza glare so I used it whenever I could, and got into a ring. "I'll set up a Notice-Me-Not Ward, so as long as you stay in the ring you'll be fine." Saying that, she removed a stone from her pocket, set it down by her foot, and kicked it over to the ring.
After it activated, we just at Martha, twin looks of judgement on someone who didn't look ashamed in the slightest. The 'Notice-Me-Not's were actually the 'Aversion/Concealment' Ward combo she made, but she like calling it that. "Nerd!" Because really, she was totally a nerd.
"Shut it Erza." Retribution would be so sweet when I fi-... I had an epiphany, and suddenly, I knew what to do. I'd have to wait for a few years, but I knew what to do.
I shook my head and looked at mom. "Ready?" Mom fastened the tape on her hands and got into stance. A nod later and I followed suit. Martha counted us down, and I made sure to limit myself to base human strength, then went after mom when the count hit zero.
I started with a jab, to test her response, and she grabbed it and threw me over her shoulder! Oh she was serious. If I hit the mat it would be counted as a loss, so I reached out with my other hand and sent out a punch aimed at her wrist, mom wasn't fast enough to respond, so my fist struck and she released me before I could hit the mat from her throw. I couldn't put enough force to break her wrist, but it was enough to keep her from using it for a bit.
As fast as humanely possible, I got up and went for a Renewal Taekwondo Rising Back Kick. Mom must've felt the danger since she split to dodge, and got back up a beat later, despite how difficult that should've been. Something we knew was mom was VERY flexible, and her balance beat both me and Martha. She re-positioned herself and then moved towards me. She led of with a Renewal Taekwondo Gor Yo, but I grabbed her leg and tried to follow up with a Renewal Taekwondo Fang, unfortunately she leveraged the fact that I was holding her and brought up her other leg to strike me in the jaw as she used that momentum to perform a full Renewal Taekwondo Nagiwa Kick. I hated that technique with a passion. Using my face as a springboard was infuriating!
It was time to kick it up a notch. I rushed at my mom and didn't give her time to breath as I started striking out with my palms. She easily avoided or blocked my hits, but I would focus on the wrist I hit earlier every time she needed to block. And when I heard the sound of it cracking? I took the opening that gave me and swept moms legs. She was falling, and I was going to take the chance it gave me... Well, I would've if she didn't use her good arm to hit the ring and flip back, hitting me in the chin, again! Mom just clutched her wrist for a bit before she got into an ITF stance, and waited for me to come to her. I just narrowed my eyes at her. Sure she practiced ITF, but it was her weakness, she sucked at it just as much as I sucked at it. Which was alot! She could defend herself with it, which was the point, but she relied on her Renewal Taekwondo for her attacks...
(What is she thinking?) I thought of the options, and decided to see what she had in mind. I charged at her and kept my eyes on her legs, it was the most likely thing to be a threat in my mind.
And I would've been right, if she didn't strike out with the hand I damaged. I was caught off guard, and hit straight in the stomach! I didn't have time to respond as she hit me with a Renewal Taekwondo Baekdu, and brought me into the the air! But instead of using that for a combo, she grabbed my leg with her good arm and swung me! She let me go before I could strike back but by that point, I was already flying out of the ring. She lured me into a trap... And I was getting a vague sense of Deja-Vu. [Ah karma, I love you.]
{What?} The hell was she on about?
[You did the same thing to me earlier, I even feel better now that it happened to you the same day.] That made me remember. I did do that earlier! What the fuck?! Martha came over and saw the look on my face and just burst out laughing.
Mom came out of the ring, clutching her wrist as she joined me on the ground. "Did you really need to break it honey?"
"I planned to break an arm before I would let you win."
That got her attention, and earned me a steady glare. "What do you mean, 'let me win?'" I could tell there was an edge in her voice, but I didn't have to lie.
"You're as stubborn as us, so I knew you'd never take no for an answer. The plan was to see how far you'd go and to eventually let you bring me down. But I underestimated you. Sure I limited myself to base human strength, but I've only sparred with Martha for so long, I didn't realize how crafty you were. But still, you won, fair and square." Mom just watched me as I spoke, and let Martha heal her, and I knew she could tell I was telling the truth.
She earned that win and we all knew it. "I wouldn't have fallen for such an obvious trap though." And then it was ruined. My sister, my wonderful sister, just had to say that didn't she? Mom just laughed and I groaned on the floor. We took it in as we all sat there, oblivious to the spying of a little bat on the building across from us.
{Rias' general POV before crashing into Tara}
Rias Gremory, heir to the Gremory family of the 72 pillars, and younger sister to the strongest Satan. For her, it was another day. Being tutored by one of her houses' subordinates got boring after the first few years. She understood the reasoning behind it, as the younger sibling of a Satan, the Underworld was a slightly dangerous place to be in, even if it was suicide to make a move against her or her family. That didn't entirely mean Devils wouldn't try to make a play for her. She was an excellent hostage should any of the Old Satan Faction try to get their hands on her... Which had happened once, and Sirzechs had nearly destroyed a portion of the Underworld. After that incident, Sirzechs had managed to convince his parents to place her and her Peerage in a Gremory property in Kuoh.
This helped in two ways. Firstly, she was away from the Underworld, in a location known only to the Gremory and Sitri families, which were also keeping their heiress away, and out of reach from anyone in the Old Satan Faction. The other way this helped was that if anyone made moves against her and her Peerage, they'd have to answer to the Yokai, given the fact the land of Kuoh was theirs, and being leased to the Devils. And given the fact the Yokai were backed by the Shinto Pantheon, a Pantheon that wouldn't mind giving the Devils a bloody nose if they were provoked, led to relative safety.
So far, Rias has been in Kuoh for 4 months, and was quite frankly, happy about her circumstances. There weren't as many, if any aides from the Gremory family, but she instead had time to get closer to her Peerage. Her tutors had a set schedule that they both had to follow, which was fine since she could go have fun after. There was also no Riser or Phenex family drama here, so that was a big plus in her books. All in all, she was happy in the human world, especially when she lived relatively close by a cake shop.
Incidentally, she started heading to said cake shop in order to get a surprise for her Rook, given the fact she'd completed her first contract. The cakes they made there were nearly divine, and she knew it. She didn't have too much money on her since this was a rather last minute idea, but it was enough for one slice of cake, and that was all she needed. Even if she wanted one for herself, her Peerage came first.
After she got to the shop, she browsed the displays and wondered which one her Rook would like more. Eventually, she decided on a slice of chocolate cake, and paid for it. But as she was walking out of the door, she ran into someone that would later be one of her greatest confidants, a new bestfriend, and sister.
{Rias' POV}
(Owww, did I just crash into a wa-... Pretty). That was the first thought I had when I saw what, no who, I crashed into. Her hair was red, almost as much as mine was, just a tad bit darker. (Kind of like a cherry). Her eyes were even blue too, hers were just a baby blue kind while mine were blue green. Her hoodie hid some of it, but I could tell she was toned and had muscle that spoke of rigorous training. But the thing that really caught my eye was the sweater she had on. It was a Bleach sweater! I would recognize that mask anywhere! I couldn't even stop the words that came out of my mouth. "You're a woman of culture aren't you?" For a moment she was confused, and I was worried I was wrong. But when she noticed what I was looking at, I saw the recognition and amusement that shone in her eyes.
The girl grinned at me, and I could feel one form on my face as she did. "This is the start of something great. I just know it." And it really was. We hit it off immediately. She even asked me what I was doing here, and when I just looked at her and the box of cake she handed back to me, she got the message. Even had the nerve to call me a smartass! Oh I was already loving this girl. After we introduced ourselves, and I ignored the bell that went off when she said her last name was Sakura, and she told me she was here to buy cakes for her family, I walked back in with her and we talked as she bought her cakes. After that she asked if I wanted to come over to her house, I had to think about it. I had just met her, like 5 minutes ago, did I want to go to her house? I didn't have to think long, redheads had to stick together after all.
So as we walked to her house, we talked. When she said she was home schooled, I was interested. At the moment, I, and the rest of my Peerage, were being home schooled because of the stuff going on in the Underworld, so meeting another home schooled girl my age was neat. I was able to make a plan that would let me have a normal life away from the Underworld and thoughts of that marriage contract. Just thinking about Riser and the contract made me sad, so I shunned that thought as far away as possible.
Her reaction to when I said my favorite of the big three was Naruto, brought me out of my thoughts, and made me howl in laughter. The 'Heathen' comment made it that much funnier to me. She didn't even know how hard on the nail she hit it. Then when she told me she'd got to Kuoh later, I was ecstatic! Another girl I could share my love for anime with later? Yes please! Then when she told me her mother worked as a P.E teacher there? It clicked into my mind why I thought the name 'Sakura' sounded familiar. Since Kuoh Academy was a Devil owned school, the faculty all had to be vetted, and I remember the manager of Kuoh sounding impressed when he read Sakura-sensei's profile.
Her father was a former soldier and a famous martial artist that had won a championship match without sustaining anything worse then a sprained ankle, and it was his fault it happened in the first place. I could remember my cousin was obsessed with martial arts, and when word reached him a famous martial artists' daughter was going to be a faculty member of Kuoh? He almost charged out of the underworld to meet her himself. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to use our Teleportation Circle, but he still made his desire to meet her known. But what the manager was really interested was her mother. When word of a human woman making clothing and accessories out of what seemed to be dragon scales, fangs and claws reached us, some of our families worked on getting ins with her and her company. But the Wards on her, the building, and their home kept anyone that wasn't a High Class Devil out. And the one time that a High Class Devil made it in, they practically turned into a rotted corpse within a minute... That was a great deterrent, and the last I heard, no one else made any moves on the elder Sakura's.
And even then, her and her husband had Wards on their person that kept them safe from any form of tampering. They were stumped. Here was a human woman making clothes out of dragon materials, and we couldn't approach her without considering outright kidnapping her. Which wasn't really that large of a jump for the common Devil. But even that wouldn't work since the Fallen, and even some Angels were watching her as well. My brother, Azazel, and Gabriel of all people, had to settle for just waiting and seeing what happened. And then there was Sakura-sensei herself. Whenever P.E was scheduled, I would let my familiar observe her. And the first time I saw her? I adored the woman! She was everything I wanted to be. She had confidence in her steps, a physique that showed she put in work, a resemblance to us Gremories that was almost uncanny, and an attitude that made all of her students love her. I wasn't even sure if any of the faculty disliked her!
And then there was the locket she wore on her neck. It was something I noticed on both Sakura's, but I thought it was another accessory that could've been bought. But the runes that were etched into the locket they both had were near identical. The ones I identified were Tampering prevention, near Unbreakable, Self Repairing and Tracking if it or the person it was on was lost? Things just fell into place. I could even feel the little prickling sensation that felt like defensive magic, but it wasn't doing much to me, so it seemed like it was passive until triggered. But my mind stopped focusing on the Runes when I figured out I was walking with the daughter of my idol! I latched onto this girl without a care in the world!
She looked so confused, but I didn't really care. I was going to meet my idol! I just let her drag me to her home as she walked forwards. Eventually we made it to her house, and I was snapped out of my daze as I felt the wards prick at my skin. (Dangerous) The first thing that I thought when we reached the door. I've known Wards for the majority of my life, and I knew it would be hard to break through these as I was right now. I could easily destroy them with my 'Power of Destruction', but I couldn't exactly blast a house out of existence because the Wards put me on edge. I just shook those thoughts out of my head, and followed Sakura-san into her house. I didn't even need to work long to get the Wards out of my mind, since right there sitting on the couch were two more redheads!
I remembered the manager of kuoh say Sakura-sensei had twins, but I only remembered it when said other twin was sitting on the couch watching SAILOR MOON with Sakura-sensei! I was in heav- OW! I was in paradise. I ran over to Sakura-sensei and set my cake on the table as I talked to her. She didn't seem to know she was essentially a celebrity. So I told her about her title, and she seemed to glow at the praise. I thought I could see the other twin send a look at the sister I met, but I was distracted from that thought when she offered to show me her room. If it was anything like mine, then I was definitely interested. I bolted from the couch and followed after my fellow redhead, ignoring the other Wards I felt on an area upstairs, and into her room.
And it was just as I imagined! Entire shelves and anime and manga were right in front of me! But then I saw the poster. And I swore my brain froze before going into overdrive. "Red hair, blue eyes instead of brown, likes strawberry, has an eye covered, sounds exactly like her... OH MY MAOU, YOU'RE ERZA!"
I heard two shouts of "HAH!" Coming from downstairs, and Sakura-san just shouted back. But I was too focused on the real life Erza standing next to me! The next few minutes just flew by, and eventually my time here had to end. We heard the doorbell and I followed Sakura-san as we left her room and peeked out from the side of the wall to see who it was. When I saw it was Akeno, my Queen, I realized I was supposed to be home by now! She even said so when she had to keep herself from insulting the family of redheads she found herself looking at. I knew she jabbed at me, but I was too happy to address it.
I ran over to her and grabbed my cake as I did, and asked if I could come over again sometimes. When Sakura-sensei said yes, I was over the moon! I was practically skipping along as we left. Though I almost tripped when Akeno yanked me by the hoodie. "Oh Riaaas-samaaaa~, mind explaining why I found you in a home with Wards prickling me like an anthill?"
Uh-oh... Now I knew I was in danger! "W-well, one thing led to another and..."
Akeno put a finger on my lips, stopping me from going on. "Ah ah ah, details. As precise as possible please, or you may find yourself a little shocked if you take too long.~" Oh no.
"Well, I was going to surprise Koneko with a slice of cake because she completed her first contract, and I may have run into one of Sakura-sensei's daughters.. Literally... And then...-" I told her everything. Akeno seemed to focus in on Sakura-sensei though, which was expected of course, and eventually I got up to when she rang the doorbell.
My Queen had a pensive look on her face, and tapped her cheek as she thought about something. "Hmm so, how many pieces?"
"Huh?" I mentally paused at that, because I hadn't really thought about it.
Seeing my confusion, Akeno looked at me, and a twitch in her eye as she did. "Rias-sama, you were in the Warded home of the daughter to one of the hottest topics in the Supernatural world at the moment, and with said woman's Grandchildren. How many pieces were they worth?" That made me stop in place. King's Sight. A passive/active ability a King of a Peerage was granted upon subsuming the King Piece. When we left it alone, it would give us a feeling of whether someone we met might be more then what they seemed. But I couldn't remember if I felt anything from the twins. I could feel something from their mother, but I didn't feel anything from them. I didn't even use its active version on them either. I just didn't think about it.
The active portion of King's sight let us focus on a person and see how many pieces it would take to reincarnate someone into our peerage. I instinctively used it on Sakura-sensei once and saw she'd take up to a Rook if I wanted to reincarnate her. And that was still true after I met her in person. But the twins? I didn't feel anything... And that was strange. The passive of King's sight worked off of a persons potential. Even if they could be a fraction stronger then they currently were, I should've felt something but I didn't. That should only happen if...
If they were stronger then me... But that couldn't be right... Could it?
I told Akeno about my thoughts, and she turned serious. We'd have to talk about this with Sona. They shouldn't be dangerous, since our siblings checked over kuoh before they allowed us to stay here, so this should be something we can handle. (I'll have my familiar watch them later. But first, I had a cake to give to my cute little Rook.)
{Rias' POV after Tara and Illiya's fight}
"What the hell did I just watch!?" That was really the only thing I could say to that. Serana, my familiar, saw the Sakura family leave home, dressed in clothes that looked ready for exercising. That in itself intrigued me, so I started projecting and recording what she saw to the members of mine, and Sona's peerage, since this was during my meeting with her to talk about them.
So me, Akeno, Koneko, Kiba, Sona, Tusbaki and Momo, watched as the Sakura family went into a gym. That was when we saw the other twin, Martha Sakura I was told, set up a 'Notice-Me-Not' ward, which got Sona's attention as she got the reference, and Momo and Akeno's attention because it was magic. Koneko just looked on, impassively as she didn't really have any stake in this, and Kiba wanted to see how they fought. And damn did they fight! We were all confused about why, but we could think of that later.
When Sakura-san jabbed out at Sakura-sensei, we watched amazed as she was grabbed and almost thrown behind her mother, but the attack to her mothers wrist and the recovery afterwords was so smooth! Then the kick she unleashed at her mother and the way Sakura-sensei split to dodge and re-positioned herself away from Sakura-san made me start to understand why Sairaorg liked martial arts so much. Sakura-sensei moved with grace and purpose, while Sakura-san was like a tiger going after its prey. Seeing Sakura-sensei charge and fire off two very fast kicks, only to be caught and almost attacked back, only to THEN kick Tara-San and FLIP backwards as she used her other foot to jump back. Then Tara-San started to charge and began putting the pressure onto her mother, and even break her guard, which she followed up by sweeping her mothers legs ONLY FOR SAKURA-SENSEI TO RECOVER BY DOING A ONE HAND FLIP!
Then she settled into another stance and waited for her daughter to attack. And when Sakura-san was in range, she struck out with her damaged hand and slammed it into Sakura-san's stomach, and was followed by a knee strike that sent her into the air, only to be grabbed, spun, and thrown out of the ring by her mother! What else was I meant to say?! It didn't seem like anyone else had something to say, so I just sat back down and thought about how strange the day went. Though the first person to break the silence wasn't who we expected.
"Awesome." My little Rook, Koneko, said that one word, and suddenly everyone else seemed like they remembered they could speak.
"The other girl, Martha Sakura, is she using a Sacred Gear?" Sona was next, and that was a good question. All High Class devils are taught about what Sacred Gears to look out for, and the green glow from Martha-San, seemed to fit the description of Twilight Healing, a Sacred Gear known for its healing prowess. I couldn't remember any mentions of green lightning coming off of it, but it could still be Twilight Healing.
"I'm not sure. It could be? But even if it is, what do we do about it? I don't think we can reincarnate the twins, so we can't do anything." Sona let out a discontent huff, and just leaned back to think.
Kiba seemed to be re watching the fight, studying their movements. "Rias-sama, I don't recognize their styles. Does anyone know what they are?"
My fellow Heiress helped out my Knight on this. "If I remember correctly, Sakura-Sensei's grandfather is a master of a Korean fighting style called Renewal Taekwondo. I believe that was what they used for the majority of the fight." Sona had the answer, of course she did.
"I'm more curious about the 'Notice-Me-Not', Ward. You know where that's from Sona?" Sona almost laughed when the name was said, which was saying something.
"It's a reference to a book series called Harry Potter. It does what its name implies, it makes it incredibly difficult for normal people and even other magical species to notice the person or thing hidden under it." That made sense.
There were three other rings on that floor, and no one inside them noticed a 10 year old girl almost toss her mother. I shook my head and zoned out of the meeting. But not before I did something I would later regret. "Sona? Can you send the recording of the fight to Sairaorg? It might help distract him for a bit." I think Sona knew it wouldn't but just let me make that mistake anyway. But after that, I just laid back and wondered what I'd gotten myself into now.
[Omake - Fighting is cool. Koneko's POV.]
Rias had cake, cake was good, cake was life. So were other sweets, but cake was the best.
Though, eating cake while watching people fight was also good. The fight was cool too, especially when the humans fighting did the cool stuff the Sakura's did. I could split, and sorta move fast, but I was a Devil, so it wasn't as cool. I wanted to fight like that, but with more punches.
Punching things in the face made me feel better... (Wonder if they'll teach me how to punch better? Hmm...) Munching on the closest cookie I could find, I thought about cool punches they could teach me.
{Sairaorg's POV}
(This is it! This is what I've been talking about!) Martial Arts, in my opinion, were probably the greatest thing humans created. No magic, no bloodline boosts, no enhancements. Just your months/years of hard work against anothers! And seeing the 2 Sakura's, relatives to one of my favorite Martial Artists, fight with pure skill and experience, had my blood roaring to fight! (However, while their styles ARE efficient and inspiring, I don't think it'll fit my physique and style.) That disappoint me. I was interested in Renewal Taekwondo, because Masaru Sakura was the foremost expert in the art, but I leaned more towards my fists then my legs.
Sighing, I put the Memory Crystal away, and went to my bookshelf, which held different styles of Martial Arts. I'd been searching for a specific style that felt RIGHT to me, but so far, I had no success. I'd thought Renewal Taekwondo would be it, but after seeing more examples of how it could be utilized, I realized that even if I worked on my physique, I wouldn't be able to use it perfectly.
So, searching the newer books I managed to get from one of my cousin's servants, I started looking again. But this time, I wasn't sure why, I felt like I was going to have some measure of success.
That feeling only grew when I found a book on a style called Full Contact Karate.
