Chapter 9
"What about this one? I think green is a color that will agree with your skin tone." – Alice said
We'd been at the mall for about two hours now and I already had four huge bags of clothes with me. Alice was a very convincing person.
Renesmee had shown up at my door with three other girls and, instead of her usual car, they were all in a huge jeep.
I got introduced to Rosalie, Alice and Bella right away. They'd thought it would be better to take off in the morning when there were fewer people in the stores, and we could return at around lunch time and I'd meet the others.
Renesmee had told me about her siblings before, but I was not prepared for the beauty. All of her sisters were so incredibly beautiful, they could all be supermodels. Rosalie had long blond hair and beautiful brown eyes, although her expressions looked a bit guarded. Alice had a short haircut, dark brown, that made her look so sophisticated. She was the first one to jump out of the car to meet me. Bella had beautiful chocolate brown hair, down to her shoulders. She'd given me a kind smile and a hug. It might have been a cold one, but her expression made it feel warm.
"Nessie has told me so much about you, it kind of feels like I already know you in a way" – she'd said.
I had no idea Renesmee had told her siblings about me, but I guess it made sense. If I had any siblings, I would undoubtedly talk to them about my day-to-day life and my friends.
"I don't know Alice; I have enough clothes already. I just needed something warmer and more waterproof for Forks, and I think I'm all set."
Alice and Rosalie had even more bags than I did. They already had to go back to the car once to drop them off, so they didn't have to carry around so much.
Bella looked more interested in going inside the book shop than buying clothes. She had one bag with her, and it was a dress that Renesmee said would look good on her. She didn't even try it on. Renesmee had bought a few things, including a shirt that said "fast and furious" in the front for Jacob.
"Well, okay then. I think I'm going to try it on in black."
I left Alice and Rosalie to finish up while I went to sit on a bench with Bella and Renesmee.
"So, how did it go yesterday, after I texted you?" – she asked
I smiled.
I felt way better after my text exchange with Embry. I'm glad he'd decided to not wait for today so we could talk, I'd fallen asleep in a way better mood the night before.
"We talked."
"And?" – her eyebrows shot up so high, they could have popped out of her face.
I sighed.
"We resolved our misunderstandings." – I finally confessed – "Also, he asked if he could see me again today."
I pointed a finger at her.
"Apparently you made that request possible." – I accused
She laughed.
"Who are we talking about?" – Bella asked, confused.
"Cameron and Embry met when I brought her to La Push the other day. She caused a certain… how do I say this? Impression, on him."
Bella's eyes widened for a second, and then she smiled.
Was it surprising for Embry to hit it off with someone? Did Bella even know Embry?
"But he said something to her yesterday that seemed a little odd," – Renesmee continued – "so he blew up my phone with messages to please give him her number so he could straighten things out, or he would die."
I rolled my eyes.
"He did not say that he would die."
She shrugged.
"I'm sure it would have been the next thing on the list."
"Are you guys okay now?" – Bella asked.
I nodded.
"I misunderstood his words for something else. He explained, we talked, and he's coming to your house later."
"He is?" – Bella looked at Renesmee.
"Oh, right! I forgot to tell you. He's coming with Jacob. I invited Seth too. Apparently, he wants to show da-, Edward, something."
"I should give Esme a call then." – Alice said, arriving with Rosalie on her toes – "She probably needs to cook a bit more than expected."
"Oh, I hope I'm not giving your mother any trouble." – I told Renesmee.
"Don't worry," – Bella answered instead – "her mother is actually quite happy to have you over."
.
The verdict was that Renesmee's family was amazing!
As soon as we arrived at the house, I was completely blown away by the size of it! I thought my new house was pretty big, but it was nothing compared to hers. Not to mention, the view from inside must be amazing. The house stood on higher ground, completely surrounded by the forest. It looked like one of those homes shown in magazines.
And then, as the car entered the garage, one of her brothers was there. Renesmee told me it was Edward, and apparently, he and Bella were together.
That story was already one I was familiar with. She confided in me that her family was different than most.
Because they were all adopted at different times, not everyone felt like a sibling. Some of them came from the same orphanages, like Alice and Jasper, and they were already close, and not sibling wise. Rosalie had met Emmett at school, and she had been adopted by Carlisle and Esme (Renesmee's parents) first. She's actually the one who pushed them to meet Emmet and bring him into their family, because she liked him a lot and knew what it was like to live in an orphanage. Bella had been adopted after these two couples and lastly it was Edward and Renesmee, who were actually the only ones related by blood. It was a crazy story but they all had a home, and they were family. That's all one can really ask for. And even before this day, I already knew Renesmee was a happy girl.
"How was shopping?" – Edward asked Renesmee, whilst hugging his girlfriend.
"It was fun. The mall was practically empty for some reason."
He smirked.
"That's odd. So, did you get Bella here to buy anything?"
Renesmee jumped in glee.
"Actually, I did! She bought a dress."
Edward looked surprised.
"Really?" – he asked, looking down at Bella – "You actually bought a piece of clothing?"
She rolled her eyes.
"I'm capable of doing that sometimes. Besides, Nessie talked me into it."
Edward ruffled Renesmee's hair. – "Nicely done."
Bella gasped. "You put her up to this?" – she asked, taking out a black dress out of the bag she had from the store.
It was gorgeous.
"Bella, honey, you never let me buy you anything, or surprise you for that matter. I have to resort to other measures to get things done. So, I asked our sister for help."
Bella blinked.
"Why did I need a black dress?"
"Just another surprise. But I can tell you, that dress is a great option for our date tonight."
"We're going on a date?"
He kissed her lips. "Affirmative."
I was just in awe, looking at them. Renesmee noticed.
"Cameron, meet my very smooth brother, Edward." – she put her hands on my shoulders – "Cameron is my friend from school."
"It's so nice to meet you." – I answered.
Edward was a beautiful man. And Renesmee did look a lot like him. He and Bella made the most beautiful couple I had ever seen. And I've been in their presence together for about one minute, but it was impossible not to notice their connection.
As soon as she left the car, he was there. They both moved in sync, and he had asked his sister to help him get a dress for Bella, so he could take her on a surprise date. If this wasn't couple goals, I didn't know what was.
Well, actually, all the couples I've seen since arriving in Forks had given me a good feeling. Back in La Push I didn't get to see a lot, but at least Sam and Emily looked like they were steady as a rock. Not to mention Jacob and Renesmee. But there were different degrees of seriousness, I would say. People's personalities really do match in relationships, and I got to witness that.
I met Jasper, and although he was so much quieter than Alice, he'd answer her words even before she was finished talking, like he knew her so well she didn't even need to finish a thought. With Emmett and Rosalie, it was more of a fun kind of thing. He'd crack jokes and she'd roll her eyes and make jabs at him in a playful way. Like healthy bantering was their thing. Even Carlisle and Esme seemed incredibly compatible. They wouldn't show their emotions quite like the others, but they'd share looks, and always ask the other for an opinion.
Renesmee was surrounded by love in this family, and that is all one can ask for.
I wished right away that I could find a significant other like they did. Not someone to complete me, but someone to be beside me while we both navigated through life's challenges and adventures.
"We're so happy to have you over. Nessie has told us so much about you. Besides Nahuel, she didn't know anyone at school. I'm glad you became friends." Esme said, giving me the warmest smile. She looked so young to have so many teenagers in her care. Of course, she needed to be someone with a heart of gold.
Renesmee groaned next to me and Nahuel, who was at their home as well, chuckled.
"Way to embarrass me." – she murmured.
"Making friends can be hard," – Bella said, touching Renesmee's hair – "there's no shame in that."
I shook my head.
"I'm the one who's grateful." – I said – "This is a completely different place for me. And Renesmee's the one who reached out. I don't know what my days in school would look like without her and Nahuel."
She smiled at me, and then frowned.
"I do have one issue though." – Renesmee said.
My heart sped up a bit, concerned.
"What?"
"You seriously need to stop calling me Renesmee. You're my friend, you can call me Nessie. Renesmee's what my mother calls me when she's mad."
Bella was about to speak, when Edward interrupted.
"Renesmee is your name; it makes sense to use it sometimes."
"Whatever." – she rolled her eyes.
I smiled.
"Nessie it is then."
