Lucina: Link. May I speak to you for a moment?

Link: ...Yeah... Please do... I've been meaning to talk to you myself.

Lucina: Please answer me honestly... Who are you?

Link: ...What do you mean?... You're asking as if you... don't already know.

Lucina: I know who you claim to be, but I cannot trust you so easily.

Link: You think I'm... a traitor?... You think that I'll betray you all?

Lucina: I have my suspicions, yes.

Link: ...Why?

Lucina: Because you do not belong here. There was no man named Link in the future I grew up in. There's no telling who you really are.

Link: Well... yeah... That's because I'm from a different world... I've never hidden that fact.

Lucina: The Grima of my time knew that I was planning on going back in time to undo his revival. He tried to stop me directly, but was unsuccessful. With the arrival of the Risen in this world, it's entirely possible that he sent other followers to carry out his will... Someone like you, who could sneak their way into our ranks.

Link: ...If I was an agent of Grima... don't you think I would have tried something by now?... I've fought alongside Chrom for years... I helped defend Emmeryn from assassins... The shepherds trust me and for good reason... I think my actions alone prove my innocence.

Lucina: ...

Link: Lucina... What do you expect me to say?... Even if you were right, that I am an enemy, I wouldn't come out and reveal that to you... Seems to me like there really isn't a way for me to earn your trust if I haven't already.

Lucina: Perhaps it is impossible for me to trust you, but I cannot change the way I think... Not after seeing what I have seen.

Link: ...That's fine. You don't need to trust me... You just need to let me help.

Lucina: I... can accept your terms.

Link: And please... don't do anything drastic... I'm not asking for perfect harmony between us... but if you're seriously thinking of making an attempt on my life... I really hope you reconsider... It wouldn't end well for either of us.

Lucina: Y-You... Could you tell?

Link: Even when you were disguised, I noticed that you were always watching me... You gave off a dangerous vibe, I guess... I could sense your animosity for me from a mile away.

Lucina: I fear that I should not openly admit to this, but... many times I had entertained the thought of killing you myself... I feel awful for even pondering it, but I cannot take any chances.

Link: Well, don't worry about it... As long as you don't kill me, I think we'll get along... And thanks for trying to talk things out with me before getting... violent... I appreciate that.

Lucina: You are acting awfully cordial toward me, even though I just confessed to plotting your demise.

Link: You escaped with your life from a world filled with despair and suffering... You had to watch everything you love crumble away, and you were powerless to stop it... I've gone through something similar, I think... and I understand your actions because of that... So, it's like I told you... Don't worry about it, okay?

Lucina: Others may think me too cautious, and perhaps I am... but you are clearly too trusting of me. You try so desperately to make peace between us... So much so that I begin to suspect you even more.

Link: I trust you because you have Falchion and because you have the Brand... It's obvious that you're telling the truth.

Lucina: Hmph... I promise that I will work alongside you, Link, but I will continue to monitor you. For the sake of my sanity, I must do this... I must hold onto my doubts.

Link: ...Fine by me.

Lucina: ...Good afternoon, Link.

Link: ...Oh... Lucina... Am I in your way?... I can move over-

Lucina: No, not at all. In fact... I wanted to ask for your help.

Link: ...Help with what?

Lucina: I would like you to teach me your style of swordplay. If you are truly on our side, you should be more than willing to assist me, yes?

Link: ...I'm... a little surprised... You're very skilled in your own right... and I figured you wouldn't want anything to do with me, anyway.

Lucina: Regardless of how I feel about you, you are a swordsman without peer, and your style is incredibly unique. I'd be remiss not to learn all that I can from those around me. Such teachings could make the difference between life and death, after all.

Link: Hmm... Well, all right... During my adventures, I did pick up some useful skills with the blade... The thought of passing them onto to others is pretty exciting, actually.

Lucina: Then I would be grateful if you could pass these skills onto me. I am ready when you are...

Link: Okay, so... I have an attack that I like to use for delivering a killing blow... If I manage to knock my opponent to the ground, I like to go for a plunging-sort of downward thrust... Jump towards them and put all your weight onto the sword to give it that extra force... HYAAAT!... Right into the chest like that...

Lucina: You seem to favor leaping strikes, am I correct?

Link: ...Yeah, I guess that's true... Others have told me that it's impractical, but... if my enemy is on the defensive, a jumping attack gives me enough power to break through their guard usually.

Lucina: As someone who relies on speed rather than strength, this could be of great use to me.

Link: Yeah... I think so, too... I'm not all that imaginative, so... I just call this an 'Ending Blow' or... something...

Lucina: My friend Owain might disagree, but I believe it to be aptly named.

Link: So... uh... the next one... I just call this the 'Back Slice'... It's simple, but... I think it's pretty effective... If you're going up against a foe that's well guarded from the front, I like to do a quick roll around them and strike at their back... You have to be nimble to pull it off, probably... but someone like you could do it, I'm sure... Watch how I shift my body right before I...

-Scene Fade Out/Fade In-

Link: ...of course, a helm splitter requires even more agility than my other attacks... You'll need to pick your spot carefully because it's so telegraphed... and you have to be athletic enough to jump over your enemy like this in the first place... but the opening you create is worth it.

Lucina: These techniques of yours appear nonsensical at first glance... They are flashy and grandiose, almost as if they belong in a work of fiction... but when I see you use them in combat, they are shockingly effective.

Link: ...Heh... That's what most people tell me... If you feel like these maneuvers are too risky, don't feel obligated to try them... This is how I fight, though.

Lucina: I know... I have seen you fight many times. If mastering your teachings will make me even more capable, then master them I will.

Link: ...Maybe we should... break for lunch?... We've been at this for a while.

Lucina: I can keep going. I won't be satisfied until I am able to strike fear into my enemies as you do.

Link: ...'Strike fear into my enemies'?...I don't know about that... If anything, my opponents seem to underestimate me most of the time... They take one look at me, a supposed hero, and they let their guards down.

Lucina: I can't imagine why they would. That pointed hat you wear gives you a very fearsome look. One that is truly fitting of a renowned warrior.

Link: Really?... My hat?... I've only ever been told that it looks stupid...

Lucina: Is that... Is that so? Well... I'm often told that my taste in fashion is... unusual. So do not pay any attention to my thoughts. I had forgotten that my views in these matters are not so popular.

Link: ...There's nothing wrong with having a different opinion... And if you like my hat so much, maybe we could find or make you one, too... One that matches the blue of your outfit... Heh... We could fight together as a duo with our matching, pointy hats.

Lucina: Oh, that would be a wonderful idea! Confidence goes a long way in a fight, and were I to wear a hat like yours, I would feel even more... Ah... N-No, never mind...

Link: ...Hmm? What is it?

Lucina: Forget about all of this. I... got caught up in my childish fantasies, that's all. I should not be talking so casually with you.

Link: ...but-

Lucina: Let's resume with our training.

Link: ...

Lucina: ...

Link: ...Giving me the cold shoulder again?

Lucina: I said let's resume with our training. I'll keep myself from losing focus from now on.

Link: *sigh* Whatever you say...

Link: Lucina, are you all right?

Lucina: H-How did you... Why are you following me?

Link: I happened to be awake... and I heard a loud noise... I saw you running from your tent, and I... wanted to make sure you were okay.

Lucina: ...It's none of your business... I wish to be alone, so if you would please leave.

Link: Your eyes are red... You were crying...

Lucina: I said it is none of your business! My problems are my own, and I will... I will deal with them myself.

Link: ...All right... I won't pry... but if you're going to stay out here all night, sitting on a log in the woods, then I'm staying as well... It's not safe to be out here alone.

Lucina: ...Fine.

Link: ...

Lucina: ...

Link: ...Have you been sleeping okay?... You've seemed... out of it, lately.

Lucina: *sigh*... I have frequent nightmares... The noise you had heard was me waking up in a panic, most likely.

Link: Nightmares about Grima?

Lucina: ...Yes... After seeing the destruction he brings to the world, the death of family and friends... a good night's rest is difficult to come by.

Link: Mmm... I can relate.

Lucina: You get nightmares, too?

Link: Not as much as I used to, but... when I returned to Hyrule after a seven-year absence... I saw firsthand what the King of Evil was capable of... A town that was once full of life had been turned into a wasteland... Innocent people had been transformed into monsters... and I felt responsible.

Lucina: ...That sounds just like the world I left behind.

Link: Once I had managed to save my realm... My sleep began to improve... I'll never forget the suffering that I saw, though... As heroes, I suppose that's just one of the burdens that we have to bear.

Lucina: ...

Link: It may not mean much to you, I know... Just trust me when I say that we'll make it through all this.

Lucina: ...I wish I could... but I'm afraid... Afraid of what might come to pass... Tell me, Link, how do you deal with this? The feeling of having the weight of the world upon you?

Link: I... don't think I ever got rid of it, really... I just tried to push those thoughts to the side, and I focused on whatever task I had to do next... Maybe there is no healthy way for us to process these feelings.

Lucina: Perhaps not...

Link: But you can still make the best of this terrible hand you've been dealt... I barely had any help with me when I fought to save Hyrule... but it's different for you... You have an entire army fighting at your command... allies that you share unbreakable bonds with... You just have to trust that we can step up when you need us.

Lucina: It is not easy for me. With the stakes so high, I feel as though the only one I can depend on is myself.

Link: I struggled with that, too... You'd be surprised at how many lectures your dad has given me about this very thing... It was good for me, though... Seeing you wrestle with the same problem, I couldn't just say nothing.

Lucina: ...Very well. Going forward, I will place more of my trust in you all.

Link: ...Even me?

Lucina: Yes... even you. The support you have given to our cause is immeasurable. Despite my best efforts to maintain my distance, you've shown me nothing but warmth and goodwill... I have come to trust you a great deal, Link... Truly, I have.

Link: ...Thank you... That really means a lot.

Lucina: If... If you are working against me in secret... If you do end up betraying my trust one day... I curse Grima with all that I am for sending someone like you... Someone that I've come to depend on so dearly.

Link: You can count on me, Lucina. I'm on your side no matter what happens.

Lucina: Then... I will trust you.

Link: ...Want me to walk you back to camp? We really should try to get some sleep, yeah?

Lucina: Would you... stay here with me? Just until I can compose myself? I... find myself wishing for a shoulder to lean on.

Link: Uh... Yeah, sure... Anything to help.

Lucina: ...

Link: Oh... 'A shoulder to lean on'... You meant that literally...

Lucina: I-Is this... okay? If I'm making you uncomfortable, then there's no need to-

Link: No, no! I don't mind... I said I'd do anything to help, and I meant it.

Lucina: That instrument of yours... an ocarina, is it? Would you... play that for me, as well? I'm thinking that the soothing music would help me sleep, perhaps...

Link: S-Sure... I'm not used to being so close to someone else like this... so I might not play very well, but... I'll give it a try.

Lucina: The beauty of nature is so breathtaking, isn't it? I hardly had any time to appreciate it in my version of Ylisse... because of Grima... Now that I've gotten to know you better, I understand why you like being out here in the wilderness so much.

Link: Without a doubt... Whenever I end up settling down... I'd like to live out in the woods just as I did when I was younger.

Lucina: So, Link... What was your reason for us meeting here? You mentioned having something 'exciting' to show me?

Link: ...Th-Thats's right... The thing is... our final battle against Grima is almost here... and I know you've been stressed out just thinking about it.

Lucina: That would be a severe understatement. Everyone is fearful of the upcoming clash, aren't they?

Link: Yeah, definitely... I just had an idea, is all... A way for me to help ease your worries, hopefully.

Lucina: I see. In that case, you have my attention.

Link: ...Okay, so... I... *sigh* Geez... I don't know if I've ever been so nervous in all my life...

Lucina: You're blushing like mad, Link... I thought your idea was intended to ease my worries, not provide new ones.

Link: ...Here...

Lucina: A ring? F-For me?!

Link: ...For you.

Lucina: But... why now? What if I lose you to Grima's power? There's no telling how many lives may be lost in our final attack... You've promised me something so wonderful, but if things go awry, it's a gift I may lose forever...

Link: Mmm... I was afraid you'd take it this way... I hoped this would give you the strength to fight at your best... It's something special to look forward to... Something special to fight for, y'know?

Lucina: I understand, but... Is this really acceptable?

Link: Acceptable?... What do you mean?

Lucina: I would love to indulge in these matters of the heart, but is this... responsible of me? I'm the future princess of Ylisse, and daughter of the exalt... Grima is running rampant as we speak! What would the people think of me for getting caught up in frivolous dreams while the world hangs in the balance? What would my parents think?

Link: ...Is that what my feelings mean to you? They're 'frivolous'? Unimportant?

Lucina: N-No, I... I misspoke...

Link: Your parents want you to be happy, Lucina... And you speak of responsibility, but I've never met someone who takes their responsibilities more serious than you do... I don't care what anyone else thinks... Right now, I'm doing what makes me happy... and I'd like to know what would make you happy, Lucina.

Lucina: 'What would make me happy'?... Nothing would make me happier than marrying you, Link. We're so alike, you and I... I was so scared of falling for you, because I thought you were another trick crafted by Grima... To let my guard down and risk everything just to lose myself in lovesick desires? For so long, I couldn't bear to take that chance, but now... I'm overjoyed that I did.

Link: Let's give Grima everything we've got, then. Naga says he can't be destroyed, only put to sleep? We'll just have to hit him so hard that he never wakes back up.

Lucina: But Naga says that's impossible...

Link: We'll find a way... Look at the two of us right now... Ylisse's exalt from a future timeline marrying the chosen hero of Hyrule? Neither of us are even supposed to be here... I'd say that's a miracle in itself.

Lucina: You speak true... It is settled, then. We will vanquish Grima, and return home to Ylisstol with all of our comrades. And when we arrive, we will have a wedding fit for two of history's greatest heroes... What do you think?

Link: I can't wait.

Lucina: I warn you now, though... Most of my life was spent fighting in a world bereft of joy or hope. As a result, I'm very inexperienced when it comes to love... Embarrassingly so, even. I worry that I won't measure up to your expectations.

Link: You've always surpassed my expectations, so you have nothing to worry about... Besides...I've spent most of my life fighting, too, so I don't know anything about love either... We can just take things slow and... learn as we go, all right?

Lucina: You're sure of this?

Link: Pretty sure that's the only option we've got... Time-travelling heroes like us have to play catch-up when it comes to stuff like this, don't we?

Lucina: Hmhm! I'm afraid you're right!

Bonus Support: (This is not 'canon' to my story. It would take place between Supports B and A)

Lucina: ...As always, thank you for the training, Link.

Link: No problem... If it'll help me to earn your trust, I'll gladly keep doing this.

Lucina: ...

Link: So... same time tomorrow?

Lucina: Before we go our separate ways, might I ask for your thoughts? You've taught me much about your own style of swordplay, but I am curious what you think of mine. Are there any strengths or weaknesses that come to mind?

Link: ... I think your style is very strong... You're quick and precise... You space your swings just right, always utilizing the tip of the blade and keeping as much distance between us even while striking... Now that I think about it... Wow... That is weird...

Lucina: 'Weird' you say? Is there something odd about my technique?

Link: After we had defeated Gangrel, and you disappeared for two whole years... I had completely forgotten about your disguise... You went by 'Marth', right?

Lucina: Yes, I did. He is known as the Hero-King in the legends.

Link: Well... this is gonna sound weird, but... this world isn't the only one I've travelled to...

Lucina: Oh?

Link: I was... recruited, I guess... by some other-worldly figures. They wanted me to participate in a tournament of sorts... a combat-sport that was enjoyed by cheering fans... I was only one of the many fighters they brought in from outside realms.

Lucina: You're known for being one of the shepherds most skilled warriors... Were the others of similar caliber? How did you fare?

Link: Everyone was tough... I met fighters that defied reality, or at least what I thought was possible... The reason I bring this up is because... One of the participants went by that same name. 'Marth'.

Lucina: ...Do you think it could have been the Hero-King himself? From his time period long ago? If I was able to travel into the past, then surely there must be ways to travel into the future, wouldn't you think?

Link: I can't say for certain, but that's what I believe... He's a master swordsman... has blue hair like you and Chrom... and most damning of all, he handled his blade exactly like you do.

Lucina: But... you must be exaggerating.

Link: I'm not... You remember when we had our first fight as opponents? Back in Ferox for the Khan's tournament?... Even then, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had fought you somewhere before... but now I get it.

Lucina: How could we be so alike, though? He is said to have lived two-thousand years prior. I was taught by my father, not by the Hero-King.

Link: Look... I have no idea how it's possible... I'm just telling you what I know... You two fight exactly the same... Striking with the tip of the blade, using large overhead slashes to break through the opponent's guard, parrying and counter-attacking when you are at a disadvantage... It's starting to scare me how similar the two of you are.

Lucina: ...That does sound similar to how I fight...

Link: You might be a distant descendant of his, right?... Maybe he just passed his sword techniques down to you... genetically... through thousands of years...

Lucina: This is beginning to sound like an elaborate joke... and I've been told that I am terribly slow to realize when I am being had.

Link: I-It's the truth, I swear.

Lucina: Hmm, I fear the only way I'll ever know for sure is to meet this 'Marth' myself... Maybe I'll be asked to join this competition one day...

A/N:

Out of all the pairings, Link x Lucina has always been my favorite. I had a lot of ideas for this one, so it's longer than the usual, but I couldn't help it. They're too easy to write for, and I have no regrets.

As far as the bonus goes: OoT Link appears in Smash 64 and Smash Melee, so I thought a reference to fighting against Marth would be fun. I thought about also including Roy, but it was running long enough, I think.
