'We all got a peek' Miranda continued, buoyed up by Max's dismayed expression. 'The others were very disappointed that they didn't see it all.'
Miranda wasn't actually expecting to immobilise him with her words but it was her mischievous smile that unnerved him. He looked wary and slightly scared at the possibility that Miranda actually…smiled.
'And you?' He checked.
'God no. I was horrified. Didn't need to see that' she said airily.
Max's expression was unreadable. If she had to take a guess, he was conflicted between relief and dismay. His ego briefly battled within but he let it subside.
'Right ok. Well, I wasn't going to do the movie, the other guy dropped out at the last minute and they asked me. I needed the money.'
'Another way to piss off your father?' She asked.
'Well if that happened, it happened' he shrugged. 'I was beyond caring by that point. I didn't think about what might happen if an employer saw that.'
'Nobody found you out?' The teasing tone was back. He should have been pleased that she was easing up on her attitude but she was a little too happy to watch him squirm. Which was most unlike her.
'Somehow, it was kept under the radar.'
She raised an eyebrow and he had the horrible thought that she would show it to Inés. He'd never live it down. His credit score with women would drop. It had just been a role, he barely had to do anything but act the dumbass on a tanning bed and hold hands with one of the other actors. He hadn't been too hesitant about getting naked either. Luckily this was produced for a German audience and it didn't seem like it had circulated much further than that. It was just bad luck that Miranda had seen it. He could imagine her prissily hiding behind the cushions. He couldn't see her hooting and cheering for a stripper in real life. In a way, he felt a bit disappointed. He tried his best to try and tickle out something human in her but it was an uphill struggle. It would have been interesting to have got something more than an indifferent reaction. Not sure what he would have done with that. But it would have been something.
