Disclaimer: O-Genki desu ka? .... Good, good. I'm glad you're fine, and I'm glad you aren't going to ask if I own Outlaw Star.
------------
A/N: YAHOO!!! Eleven reviews!!! *Does a little dance* Ha ha, and they said it couldn't be done.
Sere: Who's they?
SHUT UP!!!! I...I mean...you know who I'm talking about, Sere.
*Kicks her out the door.*
Anyways, people. I'm so glad that my review expectations were met. I'm so very happy. *Hee hee.* I'm really glad that I got a lot of great advice from a bunch of reviewers. Besides intelligence, I noticed that a lot of my readers are psychotic.
....
It kinda scared me at first, but then I noticed I was too, so yeah. D Well, it took a few days, but I'm finally writing Chapter...erm...Chapter 5!!! Had to think for a second there...yeah, well this one will be longer than last time, I promise. I will really try to exert myself and make the upcoming twist seem all the more complex. Yuppers, that's right. The story is going to get a little confusing, but I'll do my best to explain everything well. Oh, and kudos to The one and only, Julia for all of the "smile" *shudders* synonyms. *Huggles* Anyway, have fun. D

Review Responses:
The one and only, Julia: Yay! You are so kick-ass! I have bunches and bunches of synonyms now!!! I am happy and I'll try to use both of the suggestions you gave in this chapter and later chappies. You are my official life saver. Kudos to you!
The Ronin: Thanks for the great advice. After reading your review, the situation you described became apparent to me as well, and I'll try not to force my story into the stereotype you mentioned. And I swear that I'll try to get to your fic soon! If I ever even get the time with all the fics I'm writing! I promise I will read the story eventually! Author's Honor!
StoryWeaver1: You know I do the cliffies just to piss you off, right? No, not really. But people tend to get angry when left at a cliff, so they write reviews (like you) to cuss me out (except you have yet to curse at me) and then they are curious as to what happens next so they come back for more, which means all the more readers for me. D Thanks for continuing to read Prince Charming!
Casavenna: LOL – I'm so happy! You wrote two reviews in a row! You're kick- ass, chica! Yeah, I know, Gene is really hot. But you know who's hotter? Sawasdee Gackt. Yup, the man of MY DREAMS. But I claimed him forever and a day ago, so everyone else, BACK OFF MY MAN!!! LOL. I'm such a fan girl. Thanks for the great reviews!!!

Prince Charming: Chapter Five
---------
In the last chapter....
---------
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
Melfina almost cried out in surprise as an arm lightly swept past her own.
She looked up into a pair of deep blue eyes.
There was a short silence, but Gene soon interrupted it.
"Where were you all day? We were starting to get worried aboutcha."
The words momentarily stuck in Mel's throat, but she managed to croak out, "I went to the park to think."
"Think about what?"
Melfina then realized that she had cornered herself into a trap.
(A/N: What will happen next? READ ON TO FIND OUT!!!)
----------
'Oh, no,' was the first thing that came to Melfina's mind as Gene shifted from foot to foot beside her, obviously waiting for her reply.
What was she supposed to say? 'I think I love you, but every time you're around me I get sick to my stomach and can't wait to get away?'
Oh sure, that sounded sincere.
A million answers flashed through Mel's head and she knew that she was taking too long to answer.
"About different things," she spoke up quietly, hoping that it sounded genuine.
"Ah," was Gene's only response.
Melfina was a little surprised that he wasn't more talkative. He always seemed to be blathering on about something or other, usually about the McDougal brothers or the Leyline or such things.
But then again, Gene looked more serious than usual, as well. Something was clearly on his mind, but Mel had no idea what that thing might be. Although she loved him, she was never really positive that she knew him very well. Even after spending so much time together, Melfina still had to work at it to comprehend what emotions he was feeling.
Her face must have revealed her puzzlement, because Gene smiled reassuringly.
"Don't worry about me, Mel, I'm fine." Soon enough the look of assurance disappeared and was replaced by a mix of exasperation and exhaustion.
"No, I'm not fine. I lied. Mel, today we got a message from Khan. It's for you. We haven't watched it yet, because the last time we tried to, we couldn't understand a word of it."
He paused here for effect, and Mel watched in silent admiration as the light streaming to the ground outside reflected on his beautiful face. (A/N: That beautiful part was for you, Casavenna!)
"Mel, I'm not sure that we should be trusting this guy. In fact, I know we shouldn't be trusting this guy. It's creepy enough that he got our message address, but when he starts sending you encrypted letters...well, it's just scary."
Mel was shocked at Gene's admittance of being afraid, but was completely unscathed by hearing that Khan had sent her another e-mail. He was just odd like that. Odd in a terribly frightening way.
Melfina wasn't exactly sure of what to say after that, so the two of them remained silent until the meteor shower dwindled to a few mere falling stars, and then stopped completely, leaving the room in darkness.
"It's getting late."
Mel nodded, although aware that in the ebony light of the room it was as near invisible as possible.
"Do you want to watch the message from Khan?"
"...yes."
"Then let's at least wait until tomorrow morning. I'm kinda tired."
Again, in the blackness of the room, Melfina nodded, and Gene was left to his own assumptions.
----------
Mel lay awake for hours that night, reflecting over many of the things that had happened. First that talk with Retsuna, then that meteor shower, and, finally, Gene's words.
After a while, these thoughts grew almost exasperating and she instead shifted her thoughts to the message from Gwen Khan. After contemplation, the idea that Khan had sent her another email began to become a little frightening, just as Gene had said.
What could he possibly have to say to her? After that incident with the Gravity Prison...now that Gene had the coordinates of the Galactic Leyline, what more could he want? When Gwen Khan had uttered those horrible words, "It was you who broke my Meisson plate" and thrust Melfina into the depths of her own mind, she had developed an intuitional fear of the professor and all his knowledge of the Leyline, the Outlaw Star, and herself.
And while she feared him, she couldn't help but envy what he knew. He knew why he was placed into his existence. It seemed that most humans knew this better than people like Melfina, but Professor Gwen Khan was an expert. All he wanted was more and more and more knowledge. It was obvious to anyone that had ever had an encounter with the strange man. Instead of thirsting greedily for money or material things, he wanted to know all there was to know...about everything.
Unable to contain herself or her curiosity any longer, Melfina slipped out from under the comforter and made her way towards the door, clutching a thin blanket around her shoulders.
------------
She wasn't positively sure she knew how to work the computer, but she found that she remembered seeing Jim open up an email from Iris to Gene before. After mimicking his movements with the keyboard and the touch-cursor, the screen lit up with the shape of an unopened envelope.
A little hesitantly, Mel pressed a finger twice to the screen.
Gwen Khan's face appeared, flickering once or twice, revealing his naturally beaming face. (A/N: YAY! I used one of T.O.A.O. Julia's synonyms for "smile"!!! XD)
"Well, hello, there Melfina. Hello indeed. This is Gwen Khan, yes, Gwen Khan, but I'm sure that you knew that already, didn't you? Yes, I'm sure you did, very sure actually. (A/N: I'm sorry if I can't mimic Gwen Khan's freaky way of talking exactly right, but hey – I'm tryin'!) Now, don't be afraid, Melfina, don't be afraid, please I beg of you; I am simply calling to check in on you...yes, that's right, to check in on you and Gene. How are things between you two, anyway? Feeling any...ah, yes, different – feeling any different at all?"
Mel's eyes grew wide as the virtual Khan straightened his round glasses, grinning maniacally.
"Tell me, dear, yes tell me dear Melfina. Have you two fallen in love yet?"
----------------
Bum-bum-buummmm!!! I think I'm doing pretty well with cliffhangers so far!!! D I know, I'm evil. I know, you all wanna burn me at the stake. Sorry. No can do.
Guess what people? In the next chapter we'll all find out why Mel gets so sick around our own dear little pretty boy Gene! Wahoo!!! *Cheers arise from tiny gathering of fans* Yes, be happy and joyous and merry, my many friendly fellow otakus and readers of fanfiction alike!!!
I could really use some advice on the subject of Gwen Khan. He is a very disturbed – erm, I mean INTERESTING character. So anyone that feels like passing on any tips regarding his dialogue...pass away.
Well, as soon as I'm carrying 16 reviews, I shall UPDATE and publish Chapter Six for all you pretty little kitties. Ja ne for now.
