Thrills to Keep Alive
-by Dark Insanity (Shinichi Maki)
A black robed figure could barely be seen standing on the ledge of the Astronomy Tower; arms spread wide open, through the thick curtains of rain. A blood-curdling laugh emitted from the dark silhouette. Who is he? The 12-year-old boy who is hanging his life on a thread in the midst of the storm? Severus Sin Snape is his name.
Severus looked down from the tower's ledge. The height made him feel so close to Death -- so close to his parents. Lowering his eye-lid, he tilted his head back, his mouth parted and rain flowed into his mouth.
Up on the ledge with his arms opened, lightning flashing around him, Severus felt as though he was flying with the eagles. Away from the Marauders, away from the Malfoys who took him in after the deaths of his parents, away from the pitying eyes of Professor Dumbledore, away from his life. He was once again in the caress of his mother, the gentle wrestle with his father.
Severus slowly turned and stepped down from the ledge. His just now blazing eyes turned back to the dull ones of Snivellus-The-Greasy-Git. Returning, returning to the ghost he now lived as. The only times he felt real, alive, was when he had a sudden rush of adrenaline. Times where he step into the Forbidden Forest during a full moon, where he go near enough such that the Whomping Willow can sense his presence, where he place the cold blade of his knife on his throat in an almost dreamy state. Severus needed thrills just to keep him alive.
