Spinelli was as drunk as that one uncle during a kid's birthday party. Gerald was also drunk as Phoebe lowered her eyelids when she saw him.
They were at a bar for an early Christmas celebration since they were most likely going to be busy on Christmas, with more things than one.
Gerald had come over dressed in Santa Clause fat suit while Phoebe followed behind. Arnold was too frustrated to comprehend anything.
"Arnold, would you quit your pouting? Everyone has to work on Christmas! This ain't yall first time either." Nadine said. "Nadine it's not that, it's just-"
"Here comes," Spinelli belched. "Santa Claus!" She held up a beer bottle but then dropped it. "Oops…" Arnold and Rhonda rolled their eyes.
Gerald came up to Arnold as Phoebe followed behind. He stumbled over his words as he noticed the look on Arnold's face. "What's eatin' you?"
"Santa, where's Mrs. Claus?" Arnold tried playing along even though he wasn't drunk.
"Ah… I think I forgot her in the North Pole… *belch* … or maybe I have to slide down your chimney tonight." Gerald laughed as he started singing a random song as he then hiccuped.
Arnold got frustrated as he tackled Gerald to the ground. A scuffle broke out between the two. They were soon separated by staff members there.
Arnold walked out of there irritated as ever while Rhonda walked behind him, hugging him and trying to calm him down. "Shhh… There, there now, Arnold. It's alright, I'm here… Shhhhh…" Rhonda then gave a comforting kiss on his cheek. Arnold took a deep sigh.
"I never even wanted to come to this fucking bar in the first place…! Rhonda, sweetie, how about we just head home?"
"I'm more than ok with that." Rhonda gave a comforting smile.
Later at home, it was a little tough getting home with all of the snow and ice on the roads, Arnold didn't change out the tires on his pickup.
Rhonda was already sitting on the living room couch as she patted a seat next to her for Arnold. He sat next to her.
Rhonda kissed Arnold's cheek as she snuggled up with him. "Just a little something to keep us warm, don't worry about Olivia, she should be asleep right now, it's past her bedtime too. Anything you need to say, just let it out." She kissed his cheek once more before she closed her eyes and rested her head on him.
Arnold only had a small smile as he stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. But he then frowned.
"Rhonda… there's something that has been bothering me since Olivia's birthday."
"What's wrong, honey?"
"Ever since we found that shipment van and mysterious speed demon, that's all I've been trying to figure out. Somehow, someway, there's a connection between those things. That random shipment from the docks went missing minutes after Spinelli found that speeding car."
"Hmm… When you put it like that, it looks like there's a connection somehow. But the question is, HOW does it connect?"
"I don't know exactly how, hun. But I do know there's a connection between those things, I guess we'll have to find out eventually…"
Rhonda nodded. "Y'know, it's crazy how well I know you, isn't it, darling?"
"Exactly how so?"
"I can always tell when you're upset, I know how to cheer you up and make you laugh. And there's just so much that I love about you!" Arnold smiled as he gave a long kiss on her forehead. "I love you, with my whole heart."
"And I love you with my whole heart as well, Arnold."
As they kept getting snuggled up with each other, Arnold couldn't help but adore how compassionate she was. Arnold kissed Rhonda's forehead again as she giggled.
A couple of days went by as it was less than a week before Christmas. But a lot can happen in one week, and nobody expects it. During those two days, Arnold and Gerald never talked to each other one bit since the night at the bar. But they would be forced to communicate with each other once the crime alarm went off.
"Impulse, what do we have?" Phoebe started.
"I have reports of multiple shots fired in an apartment complex, specifically to the west side of the complex. I also have several reports saying there's a fire where the shots were fired. But here's the bad news…"
"There's good news? I thought THIS was the bad news." Nadine said.
"I wish it was, but this one will hit hard for you, Gerald."
"Me? Why's that?" He raised an eyebrow.
"It's the area where Jamie O lives."
"The fuck am I waiting for?! I gotta get there NOW!" Arnold then tugged his shoulder. "Hang on a second, hot head!"
"Hot head?! Who are you calling hot head, hot-headed football?!" Gerald immediately suited up and went to the Quinjet and took off with it.
"DAMN IT! We have no time to waste! Let's go!"
Arnold, Rhonda, Spinelli, and Nadine all suited up as the three girls immediately took the Hyperjet. Arnold decided to use Hybrid and take the road to see if there was anything street-level.
The Quinjet arrived quickly at the apartment complex on the west side. Gerald hopped out and met with Commissioner Gallup.
"Commissioner!"
"We've located your brother-"
Gerald immediately raced towards Jamie O's place.
The Hyperjet landed shortly after.
"Commissioner! Where's Gerald?" Nadine asked. Gallup only pointed towards his direction. Spinelli went after him as Rhonda and Nadine waited outside.
As more fire trucks came, the Hybrid roared to a stop. Arnold jumped out straight to the Commissioner. He only pointed over where they were.
Arnold was about to head in when an explosion went off.
KA-BOOM
As the building slowly trembled, two people jumped out of a window. One landed on her feet while the other rolled on his back and onto his feet. It was Gerald and Spinelli.
Gerald raced over towards the paramedics as he had a severely injured Jamie O in his arms.
He was immediately put on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. Gerald went along with the paramedics as the ambulance took off and raced to the nearest hospital.
Arnold and the others only watched from afar. Arnold hung his head and fell to his knees, while Rhonda had a hand on his back.
"C'mon, cooperate here!"
"I don't wanna…" Jamie O gurgled a bit of blood from his mouth.
"Get an IV! Get an IV!"
"Hang in there, big bro! You'll get through this…!" Gerald emotionally said.
Jamie O's left eye was reddening with blood. "Gerald? . . . Is that you, my bro?"
"It's me man… it's me…"
"Hey… don't tell 'em about the past crap I've done with you… you a real little brother man…"
"Ninety over sixty." Paramedics checked his heartbeat as they covered his wounds.
"I did it… I lived a great life… funny the way things turn out…"
"Don't talk like that man…! You'll live…! Get this fucking ambulance moving! Hurry!"
Jamie O grunted in agony as held up his left hand. "Who's your big bro…?"
Gerald had a tear slip down. "You are, man… You are…!"
"I'm tired of hearing those sirens… turn 'em off…" Jamie O laid there starting to look lifeless.
"We're almost there! Hang in there man…!"
The heartbeat monitor then started rising as Jamie O's heart was speeding up.
"Don't you pass out on me!"
Paramedics put an oxygen mask on him as they did chest compressions.
"Starting compression! One, two, three, four, five."
Gerald watched helplessly as he saw his big brother, dying right in front of him.
The ambulance arrived at the hospital, and paramedics raced him inside, but by the time he was brought in, emergency doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His injuries were too severe for doctors to save him.
An Hour Later
While Gerald was still at the hospital, Arnold and the others were still at the apartment complex where the fire broke out. Commissioner Gallup was with them.
As the team searched for any evidence, nothing popped up yet.
Nadine had a few spiders looking around as her spiders found something.
"Hey, Arnold! I think we've found something." Nadine showed a bullet casing and a piece of blonde hair along with a ripped piece of clothing. "This might be the break we needed!" Arnold carefully took the hair piece into a test tube, while he put the clothing piece and bullet casing into a little Ziploc from his utility belt.
"Great work, Nadine! Let's keep searching in case there's anything else." Nadine nodded as the two kept searching for more evidence.
"Hey Rhonda, doesn't this look rather weird to you?" Spinelli asked as she looked at what looked to be an oil stain.
"Hey… that does look weird." Rhonda then scanned for any chemical compounds. And it was diesel oil.
"Arnold! We've found something else!" Arnold looked over. "What is it?"
"Diesel oil. Looks like it was the fuel of the fire." Rhonda started. "That's not all, guys. Look, a broken piece of a bottle. I'm picking up a chemical compound on this too."
"This looks like enough pieces to reconstruct what happened!" Arnold added the broken bottle piece into the Ziploc. Rhonda kept the chemical readings and Impulse did some research on it.
"We have everything, let's go."
"You four are a lot better than the police forensic evidence."
"Why thanks." Spinelli said.
The Hybrid was loaded into the Hyperjet and the jet soon took off.
As they headed home, Nadine contacted Phoebe.
"Hey, Phoebe!"
"Hey, Nadine! Any evidence?"
"Oh, we have plenty of it!" Spinelli playfully dropped in. "Well, that's good to hear!" Phoebe merely laughed.
"Any word from Gerald?"
Phoebe sighed. "I can't even get a hold of his location. His last known coordinates were with you guys." Right after, the Quinjet flew in.
Gerald walked out of it slowly and had his hands in his pockets. He hung his head as he sniffled. He walked right past Phoebe as she wondered what was with him.
"I think I'll see you guys back here, there are some things I probably have to sort out."
Spinelli and Nadine looked at each other curiously.
A few minutes later
The Hyperjet landed in the garage area of the lair, as the four walked out of it, Arnold immediately headed to the main computer.
"Impulse, anything on the diesel oil?"
"Rather strange for me, sir. How could diesel oil that runs locomotives get inside a person's living area?" Arnold then realized Impulse asked a very good question. "That's a really good question. How DID the oil get into his apartment? Who could've done this? Did he have beef with someone? Many questions left unanswered…"
Rhonda hugged Arnold from behind as she giggled. "Oh, Arnold! You never change. Even as a grown man you still ask so many questions!" She laughed.
Arnold briefly chuckled. "Ok, ok. But this is serious. We need to find out who could've possibly done this, and what could've caused it." Arnold was now left with a lot of questions. He put the Ziploc of evidence on the desk.
"We'll get to this in the morning, I believe I have two princesses to check on…" Arnold smirked at his wife. Rhonda only smirked back.
The two were soon in their normal clothing, Arnold went to check on Olivia who was asleep. Rhonda had her arms around Arnold's waist as she gave a small kiss on his cheek.
"Hey Rhonda, mind if I meet you in bed? There's someone I have to see down in the living room." Rhonda nodded as she nuzzled her nose with his.
Arnold went downstairs and he saw Gerald sitting with his hoodie up and hanging his head.
"Gerald…"
Gerald flinched. "WH- oh, it's you…"
Arnold stood near him. "About your brother… what happened to him…?"
Gerald sniffled. "He's… He's dead…"
