A/N - I've been writing a lot of stuff where Daniel rejects Jack. I promise I'll snap out of it. The ending is horrible, but its been on my comp for months and I haven't fixed it yet, so here it is.

He rang the doorbell and panic kicked in. What the hell did he think he was doing here?

He didn't think, that was the problem. Ha hadn't thought this through, and had no idea what he was going to do after the door opened!

Okay, O'Neill, he told himself. Think. Plan. Fast. Right. Cool, light opening comments ran through his mind. He just needed to breath.

Holy shit.

The door had opened, and standing in the doorway was Daniel wearing only plaid pajama pants. His hair was bed messed and, if Jack needed any more proof Daniel had been sleeping, his favorite archeologist was rubbing his eyes instead of glaring at the Colonel.

"Jack, do you have any idea what time it is?"

"Er... no," he was pretty sure the answer was "late."

Daniel rolled his eyes at him. "Its two am, but since you're here, and I'm up, you might as well come in." He moved out of the way and Jack did just that.

"Coffee?" Daniel asked, retreating to his kitchen and the oh-so-holy coffee maker.

"Yes please."

Daniel busied himself with the coffee for a moment or two. "Are you going to give me any idea as to what this is about, Jack?"

Would you believe me if I said I just had to see you? That you're more beautiful than life? That I want you in bed, right now? "Oh, you know, lost track of time and thought I'd come by."

Daniel didn't look like he was buying it. Why should he? He might as well have said he was just in the neighborhood. Damnit O'Neill!

Daniel took a seat on the couch next to Jack, "So, spill."

Could it be that easy? "Spill?"

"Yeah, spill. You obviously have something on your mind. Unless you're telling the truth and you did just lose track of time, in which case, you're in trouble."

Jack smiled despite himself. Encouraged, Daniel continued teasing, "You didn't come here to seduce me did you?" He asked in a light mocking tone.

"Wh?"

"Think about it Jack, an older man shows up at my apartment in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. What should I think?"

Jack just stared at Daniel. Daniel looked puzzled, "I was just joking, Jack."

I know, that's the problem. You wouldn't believe me if I told you. "I know Danny, I'm just tired. I should go home." This was a bad idea.

"You haven't even had a cup of coffee yet. Might as well stay for a cup. Speaking of which..." Daniel got up and returned with two mugs of freshly perked coffee.

They sipped in silence for a while, Daniel waiting for Jack to speak, Jack trying to both repress and find the words.

Jack took a deep breath, "Danny, I want you to be very quiet and not ask me any questions until I'm done. Okay?" Because, Danny, if you ask me anything right now, I'll likely run from this room.

"Okay"

Jack paused a moment. What is it they say? No time like the present. He began, "Danny, I... First off, I didn't come over to tell you all this, I was just thinking matters over in my head and somehow ended up at your place.

Daniel nodded, despite having little or no clue as to what Jack was getting at.

"I guess its about you and me, Danny. Well, I'm not really sure what its about."

"Jack," Daniel said after a moments silence," I know our friendship gets a little rocky sometimes, but its nothing we haven't worked through before."

Friendship... Yeah Danny. "You're right Danny, I don't have any idea what's wrong with me." He stood up, "Sorry for bothering you this late, I'll let myself out."

"Jack."

"See you Monday, Dann-iel," Jack left without a backward glance. This had been a bad idea.

Daniel considered going after him but decided against it. He crawled back into bed and was asleep instantly.
