Chapter 11:
Ruthie was getting ready for court when Annie came into her daughter's room and sat on the bed.
"Ruthie can I ask you a favor," Annie asked her youngest daughter.
"Sure mom what is it?" Ruthie asked her as she came over by her mom.
"Would you watch Sam, David and Billy for us?" Annie asked her.
"Um, sure but why won't Lucy or Kevin do it?" Ruthie wanted to know.
"Kevin is a police officer, and Lucy wants to be there to support Mary," Lucy said.
"So do I," Ruthie argued.
"Well I could get someone else" Annie said getting up from the bed.
"Mom if it means that much to my family I will do it," Ruthie said to her.
"Great thanks, I will go call Mary and tell her to bring Billy over," Annie said. Ruthie groaned once her mom had left the room.
She had to get to the court, so she ran to the phone and called her friend Hannah, she knew that Hannah loved being with the twins and Billy she had been there tons of times to hang with Ruthie when they were there. She picked up the phone and dialed a couple of numbers and then hung up. She had to be the one to do it her mom asked her too.
She then quickly changed into her t-shirt and shirt and ran downstairs to her mom.
"Mom what if they need me to testify in saying what happened this year," Ruthie asked her mom when she found her in the living room reading a book.
"Well I guess we have to wing it," Annie said.
"Could I invite Jenna and Hannah over to help" Ruthie asked her mother before she left the room.
"If you want to I don't see a problem, but Mary and Wilson you would have to ask," Annie reminded her youngest daughter. Ruthie smiled to herself as she ran up the steps skipping two at a time.
"Sam, David come on let's go up to my room and play," Ruthie called to them. Her twin brothers came scurrying out with a coloring book in one hand and their crayons in another and followed Ruthie up to the attic.
When she saw that her brothers were sitting and coloring quietly. She went over to the phone and picked it up to dial her sister.
After a couple of rings Mary answered on the phone.
"Hello Mary it is Ruthie," Ruthie said to her sister.
"Hey Ruthie, what can I do for you," Mary asked at your sister.
Is it okay if I have Hannah and Jenna over while I am sitting for Billy?" Ruthie wanted to know.
"Sure that is fine," Mary told her.
"Thanks," Ruthie said as she hung up.
"Your welcome," Mary said and hung up. As soon she hung up with Mary she dialed both of her friends. While Ruthie and her friends were watching Sam, David and Billy the rest of the family were at court.
At court Mary, Wilson and the rest of the family were testifying that Coach Koeper had done what they said that he had did.
"Did anyone on the school board do a background check on ho, before considering hiring him again," The judge asked them.
"Yes, I did after my sister-in-law, Ruthie, called me at work about it," Kevin answered.
"No history of background previous?" he asked once more.
"I saw one other one from years back." Kevin said to the jury and the judge.
"Then why did they hire them anyway?" Judge Lawrence asked.
"I came in and told them that I had change and I wanted another chance, besides there was a guy position that they desperately needed for the fall," Coach Koeper answered to them.
"Well, if we knew it was going to happen again we never would have hired him again," Ms. Molland, the high school principal said.
"Well now that you know, he will not be able to work at any school again," Lawrence said to her.
As the trial went on with the hearing too, the families were all getting restless when finally the judge said.
"We will take a fifteen minute break while the jury decides the verdict and the punishment.
During the waiting period Mary and Lucy went into the ladies room to retouch their make-up and helped each other with support. While Kevin called the station to check in at work Wilson called Ruthie to check on Billy, Sam and David.
Fifteen minutes later every one was rejoined in the court room and the jury was ready to speak out.
"Have you reached a verdict?" The judge asked after every one had been seated.
"We have found him guilty of all charges," the head jury spoke up. The police then escorted Coach Koeper out of the room to a free jail cell. Once he was gone the judge preceded to talk.
"We will decide the sentence and let everyone know, case dismissed," the judge said as he got up. Once the judge left they were all free to go home.
