All eyes focused forward to the altar where the millennial artifacts were placed. The atmosphere in the room was heavy and solemn. Yet there was a tension out of place among those gathered.
Today was the official announcement of Prince Atem and Priestess Kisara's engagement. And the Pharaoh (at the urging of the current High Priest) also make an official announcement for Priest Seto and Seer Seraph'Amen. Many had realized that was an unstable relationship and that their dynamic had changed at some point, along with the Prince becoming possessive.
It was much talked about how the Prince favored his future seer in quiet corners.

"Rise!"
Seraph'Amen slowly rose. Her legs protested as she did. They'd been kneeling and praying for two hours on the cold stone floor. The pulsing of magic and power from the artifacts had her whole body covered in a cold sweat and feeling clammy.
Suddenly the world tilted as Seraph'Amen felt the familiar burning as a vision took hold.
In seconds she was unable to breathe from the pain and smoke. At the same time, her eyes were glued to the items.
The puzzle glowed brightest as it showed a connection to Priest Seto and Prince Atem. Then the scales lit up, connecting to Atem, quickly followed by the rod to Priest Seto. The last was the others, that all seemed to resonate with herself.
Seraph'Amen knew what the message was, being how blatant it was. Ra and the others were reminding her of her duty. Then as the vision began to fade, Seraph'Amen watched as a faint image of a person appeared. They were familiar. She knew this person and had warned them previously.
Giving a piercing scream, Seraph'Amen passed out. The pain and truth were too much; she couldn't trust herself or others.

Seto felt his nose twitch as he rose. The scent of smoke and burnt flesh filled his sense of smell.
Turning without thought, he saw Seraph'Amen's body sway and fall. Reaching out, he grasped air. His cousin, Prince Atem, had been quicker to catch her.
Forcing his face to stay neutral, Seto met Kisara's gaze. There was both understanding and humor in her dark eyes. But he saw something else, a glint that hinted at a secret.
"Seraph! Seraph!"
"Your highness, she won't respond; she is in the middle of a vision."
"What!?"
The loud exclamation from Atem and Seto narrowed his eyes. When a piercing scream came from Seraph'Amen, it had him stiffening. Seto watched her body go limp. It left him with a bad feeling about the things to come.

Atem couldn't believe what he had heard. Today was already bad enough having his engagement confirmed. The ritual was done. But to have his father Seer Nenet throw knowledge, he'd long figured out in his face. It was unpleasant.
He'd seen the burns on Seraph over the years. Felt the power that oozed from her tiny body. Knowing she was going to his seer led to an obvious conclusion. And he'd purposefully kept it a secret because he'd lose his friend.
Carefully Atem lifted his unconscious friend and stood before leaving the room. He ignored his father, Seer Nenet, and his cousin. All he wanted was to put Seraph in a safe place until she awoke.
And leaving her with everyone else would mean she'd be questioned the moment she awoke. Not something his friend needed. Besides, he saw her as more than a tool(Seer). Seraph'Amen was someone he'd protect at all costs, no matter the price he paid.
