A/N: This is not The Tales of version of Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods or Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes, but rather The Tales of version of a book I got of Greek and Roman Mythology I got in Rome Italy. The settings will be after 'The Tales of the Heroes of Olympus: The Blood of Olympus' so please read that before getting in this story. Think of this story as something to pass by until The Trials of Apollo books.
Amphitryon
Amphitryon was known for more than being step father of Heracles. Because as Heracles was being sired, Amphitryon started building his own reputation.
Amphitryon is the son of Alceus and grandson of Perseus, making him great-grandson of Zeus. Although his mother wasn't too clear as it was either Astydamia, Laonome, Lysidice or Hipponome who was daughter of Menoeceus.
He took part in the war between electryon, king of Mycenae, and Pterelaus of Taphos, in which he recovered Electryon's herds from Polyxenus. When Electryon determined to avenge his sons, all of whom except Licymnius had died in the war, he entrusted his kingdom and his daughter Alcmene to Amphitryon, who swore to respect her until the king returned. Bui Electryon never set off. As Amphitryon was returning the herds, a cow went mad, and when he threw his staff at it, it bounced off the cow's horns, hit Electryon and killed him. Sthenclas of Argos, to whom the kingdom of Mycenae ultimately belonged, banished Amphitryon, who fled to Thebes, where he was purified of the murder by Creon.
Amphitryon was still bound by his oath, and so could not marry Alcmene; she refused marriage while her brothers were unavenged. So Amphitryon mounted an expedition against Pterclaus. Creon agreed to help, on condition that Amphitryon should rid Thebes of the fox of Teumessa, which was laying the country waste. The fox could not be caught by running, so Amphitryon asked for the hound of Procris, but when this could not outpace the fox, Zeus helped out by changing the animals into stone, but I doubt Zeus did it to help his grandson out as he had other plans as some of you might be aware from Alcmene's chapter.
Amphtryon, Creon and other contingents, including those led by Cephalus, Panopeus, and Heleius, laid waste the island of Taphos. But so long as Pterclaus was alive, Taphos could not be captured. Pterclaus was invincible as long as his heard bore the golden lock of immortality which my dad Poseidonhad planted in his hair. His daughter Comaetho, however fell in love with Amphitryon and cut off the fatal hair, assuring victory for her father's enemies. Amphitryon did not yield to her advances and had her put to death.
Then he returned home and find out about Alcmene's affair with Zeus, try to kill her only for Zeus to save her, so he decided to be the stepfather to Heracles as well as biological father to Iphicles.
In one tradition Amphitryon met his death fighting at Heracles' side in the struggle which the Thebans were conducting against the Minyans of Orchomenus; in another he did not die until later, after leading a successful expedition with Heracles against Chalcodon.
So that's the story of Heracles' step father. Up next is the Great-Uncle of the founders of Rome: Romulus and Remus, and how he got the two started down their journey to founding Rome.
