Summary: A Poem about Gollum and the Ring and Sméagol and his guilt over murdering his friend. Short and sad.

Disclaimer: As you might have guessed, I do not own The Lord of the Rings. I am not making any money off of this (though I could use it), just to let you know.

Sinful Guilt

Hidden deep within the bowls
of mountains standing tall,
There is a secret dark and cold
that brings despair to all.

It hides in shadow, dwells in dark,
and aptly suits the night,
It's lost in fog, in forests deep,
without the hope of light.

Festering in a broken soul
it opens wounds anew,
Its double sided blade cuts deep
and sheds a blood of differed hue.

Its blackened pool begins to spread
and burrows deep within,
As it seeps it clogs and chokes
with the guilt of a well hidden sin.

Author's Note: I know it is fairly vague and never actually states what or who is referred to in the poem. In fact, when I wrote this, I didn't even have Gollum or even LotR in general in mind. Only later, looking back, did I realize that the poem really fit Gollum/Sméagol rather well, telling of the way the ring corrupted him. I hope you enjoyed it; if you have any questions or comments about the poem and/or its meaning, feel free to write them in a review or email me and I'll try to answer them.
