A/N: chapter was inspired by Eternal Flame by the Bangles. I always got stalker vibes from this song. Just listen to the lyrics "I watch you when you are sleeping..."
That's Jenny to a tee, and... you will see. She's starting to live up to the title of this fanfic.
Jenny stood completely still. NNY crushed her lips with a bruising kiss, and her heart thumped in her chest.
NNY was kissing her, actually kissing her... What does she do? How does she react? Should she kiss him back?
She was so not prepared for this.
He moved his lips so effortlessly, sucking the very air from her lungs, and she finally closed her eyes, surrendering to him at last.
It was everything she dreamed it would be and more.
Her first kiss.
NNY tasted of pure sin, and of all the things that were wrong and corrupt in the world. There was just something so inherently dark about him.
It called to her, and she had to have more...
She felt those dark tendrils of his soul wrapping around her body, dragging her closer into a world of hell, and the best part?
She wasn't afraid...
It was like he was tainting her, and she never wanted it to end.
The darkness, the shadows, the tendrils...
Suddenly, he pulled free, his eyes wide as he looked as if he'd seen a ghost. He panted for breath, reaching his hand up to his forehead.
"F-fuck..."
Meanwhile, Jenny continued to kiss the air, crashing back to earth once she heard his voice. "Huh?"
"Shit, shit, shit, shit..." he continued.
Jenny blinked, bewildered. Where was she? What happened to the shadows? The tendrils? The darkness?
Finally, she came to, remembering everything. She was on her front stoop, kissing Johnny. Well, she had been kissing him, but then he pulled away, looking as if he was drowning in a sea of regret.
Her heart dropped to her stomach.
Why did he pull away?
NNY's lips were red and swollen as he tried to get his bearings, and Jenny couldn't help but smile a little when she spied the smudge of pink lipstick.
She should help him get that off.
Jenny pulled out a napkin from her pocket. "NNY? Are you okay?"
He opened his eyes at the sound of her voice, swiveling around to stare at her. Jenny couldn't tear her gaze away.
His eyes... she had never seen so much fear and sorrow in one look, and the truth finally came to light.
He never meant to kiss her after all.
It had all been a mistake. He was still going to leave...
And then Jenny would be alone forever.
No... she had to make him stay. Just like how she made all those other guys stay...
They had all been so handsome. But not like NNY.
Make him stay forever...
Slowly, she reached for her bag, fumbling with the latch. She knew she put a pair of shears in there somewhere. It was the same pair she used for pruning plants.
They worked on limbs too after all.
Make him stay...
Make him stay!
NNY jerked, jumping back as if he'd just sensed her ominous thoughts, and she had to act fast.
Otherwise, the moment would be gone.
He cast his gaze to the floor, a sheepish grin forming across his face. " S-sorry, I... don't know what came over me..."
Jenny blinked, keeping her fingers on the latch of her little bag.
He was talking about their kiss.
NNY continued. "I guess you're all kinds of confused right now." He chuckled nervously, keeping his eyes on the pavement.
Jenny's fingers trembled as she still struggled with her bag. "Wh-what..?"
Finally, he found the courage to glance at her, and he'd never looked so ashamed of himself. "I shouldn't have kissed you right after I rejected you. It was wrong of me. I'm sorry."
A lump lodged in her throat as she couldn't explain what she was feeling next.
Was it fear? Shame? Heartbreak?
No. It was all of those things...
She had just been thinking about murdering him, and now he would leave her for sure.
No one wanted to date the crazy girl after all.
She burst into tears, throwing her hands over her face. NNY completely froze.
People stopped to whisper as they passed on the street, yet Jenny just couldn't stop. She felt NNY by her side, staring at her in complete horror.
Who could blame him? Jenny was a freak of nature.
Her personality changed like the wind...
A middle-aged man stopped to reprimand NNY next. "Hey, what are you doing to that poor sweet girl? Leave her be!"
A woman stopped right beside him. "Yeah, asshole. Stop making her cry!"
NNY snapped at last. "I didn't do anything! Mind your goddamn business!"
Jenny whimpered louder the moment he raised his voice, and she knew it. He was mad.
She wished those people would just stay out of it. Besides, it's not as if she was crying too loudly. She was even quiet when she cried, and she really was pathetic.
Jenny couldn't make a sound if she'd tried.
"I'm... so sorry, NNY. I... can't do this to you..."
NNY stopped glaring at the man and the woman, looking her way now. "What?"
She sniffed, wiping a tear from her cheek. "You... deserve better..."
His eyes enlarged. Then slowly, he reached his hand out, looking so distraught and confused.
"N-no... that's not..." He sighed. "We can discuss—"
Jenny flinched away from his touch, opening her door so she could disappear. Then she slammed it in his face, crying on the other side.
She could hear him on the street outside, staring at her door like a lost puppy. Now she was the one rejecting him, but she hoped he would understand one day.
It was better this way.
At least she couldn't hurt him then.
"I... I guess I'll go then..."
Finally, NNY moved away from the door. Jenny sunk to her knees, crying into her hands. He was gone, and he would never come back.
It looked as if she'd only gone and chased another one away.
NNY
What. The. Fuck?
What the hell just got into Jenny? One moment, she was kissing him, and the next she was crying and slamming the door in his face.
Damn. That kiss... NNY swore he'd died and gone to heaven. Well, to a better version of the shitty heaven he went to.
And the best part of all? He didn't regret kissing her. At all.
In fact... he wanted to kiss her again.
Just how? She slammed a door in his face; she most likely wanted nothing to do with him now after how he treated her.
Jenny had enjoyed the kiss, too, right? Her strawberry lipstick was all over his mouth for crying out loud!
He could still taste her on his tongue as he cursed out loud, kicking a streetlamp. "Fuuuuck!"
People moved away from him next, but who cares. Getting her off his mind was going to be harder than he realised.
Her behaviour was strange, yet familiar. He knew he had seen that pattern of behaviour somewhere before, yet he couldn't place it.
NNY had never met anyone quite like her. Granted, most humans were an enigma to him, but Jenny was the biggest puzzle he had ever stumbled across.
He couldn't figure her out, and she made his head hurt.
However, there was one thing he was absolutely certain of; he was going to see her again. Even if she were a little bit crazy, he had to taste those strawberry lips again.
When he'd kissed her, he never once thought about killing her. Sure, the moment had been special enough to warrant such a murder, but NNY had kept his knives in his pocket.
By some miracle, Jenny was still breathing. While her behaviour may be described as erratic, at least her heart was beating.
The happiness he felt when he kissed her was not ephemeral.
It was endless.
Endless happiness.
NNY's eyes popped. Jenny was his forever person. With her, he would always have the beauty of the start...
The beautiful moon would never set.
She was the warm sun to his cold moon, and that was why he had to find his way back to her.
Even if she slammed the door in his face again, he would never give up.
Well, it looked as if NNY had found himself a new purpose.
To hell with being cold.
A/N: I often wonder if I am taking liberties with NNY. In canon, he had sworn off happiness and love altogether...
However, I do recall him saying he still wanted happiness to Devi D. in his stupid ass recording. He just didn't think it was in the cards for someone like him.
He has associated happiness with pain? It sounds like he has gone through some serious trauma in the past. Sure, he was a wastelock, but I think it predates his wastelock days.
He thinks the two are connected. Happiness = pain.
I'm no psychologist, but I do know it wouldn't be so easy for someone to just forget all that pain when they finally meet "The one".
But I do believe there is someone out there for everyone (doesn't have to be romantic). If not, well, I still believe people can find happiness.
Stay happy folks.
