Atypicalgirl: I am glad you've enjoyed this so far. *Monkey's paw closes*
Generallius: Well, that wasn't the ending, just the set up for the ending. Surge had her moments of glory and redemption. This story is, in some sense, is her story. Still, you might find a different poetic irony that what you assumed.
Albian: Surge is a selfish person. At her core, she is very self-centered. It's about what she wants when she wants it. That being said, she's grown. Her first selfless act may or may not have cost her life. As for your ending… you'll see.
Giyuufan: I'm glad you enjoyed it.
It's been a fun ride, everyone. I've enjoyed writing this story, but for some of you, this might be the last chapter you read. Thank you for sticking with me this long. Now let's go out with a BANG!
/*-*/
Sonic dropped the emeralds as he saw Surge hit the ground. Sonic stretched out his hand, "SURGE, ARE YOU GOOD?" Sonic called out, feeling a pit in his stomach as she simply laid there.
She wasn't moving, Sonic gulped as a fear, regret, anger burned in his heart. Sonic bent his knees and got ready to run in as Eggman raised his fist over Surge. The race was on as Sonic slide over to her, and picked her up.
She wasn't breathing, Sonic could feel her getting cold. He had only stopped for a second before throwing Surge into the sand as the fist came crumbling down on him. Sonic felt himself thrown back into the emeralds.
"YOU'VE MEDDLED WITH MY PLANS FOR LONG ENOUGH, HEDGEHOG!" Eggman's voice snarled from ATLAS.
Sonic saw the emeralds around him, and pushed himself to his feet, "Eggman, This'll end all the same!" Sonic felt the emeralds glow, and begin to rise around Sonic. He closed his eyes and felt the energy in the emeralds. Sonic felt a little… worn out, but he could end this fight, easy.
He felt the courage of everyone, their joy, their hope. Sonic would not fail them. He would not let Surge's sacrifice be in vain.
Sonic's Eyes opened as a golden explosion shook the sand. Sonic felt the energy flowing through him, that burning bright across the ground, even making the sun seem dull by comparison. Sonic looked up at the Super Badnik, feeling his smirk rise over his face.
"Eggman!" Sonic shouted and flew straight up to the head of the Super Badnik.
"STAY AWAKE FROM ME, HEDGEHOG!" Eggman frantically shouted and Sonic saw the hands flying towards him in a panic as Super Sonic burst forward. What was he thinking?
Sonic kept flying, getting ready to smash through-
Super Sonic suddenly felt the shield smack Super Sonic to the ground. He felt his lungs compress before he sat up, "WHAT?"
The Super Badnik Remained frozen for a moment, "Y..Yes, Of course, Foolish hedgehog. I was harvesting the power of the chaos emeralds. If anything, this machine is more powerful than you simple light show!"
Sonic felt himself panic for a bit, before shaking his head, "Come on Eggman, I've fought worse than you!"
He flew back around at Eggman, who raised his fist to smash Super Sonic again. Sonic flew forward instead of up and slid under the fist and aimed straight for the armpits of ATLAS.
A Second hand smacked Sonic down on the ground.
"I have to admit Hedgehog, I thought I had you figured out. But Even sticking up for that abomination, now there was a surprise." Eggman taunted as Sonic felt himself getting angrier.
"DON'T TALK ABOUT HER THAT WAY!" Sonic flashed with violent energy, denting the unprotected fist before Eggman could raise a shield. Unfortunately, the dent seemed to be cosmetic.
"STUPID RODENT!" Eggman paniced, swinging his fist at Super Sonic.
Sonic dove out of the way, and stood up, before flying at the joint of the arm. The shields came up.
"Honestly, hedgehog. She was made to kill you, and yet you called her a friend. You must really be foolish, or perhaps naïve would be better." Eggman cackled, but Sonic could hear the nervous breathing in his voice.
Sonic flopped down, and began to circle the super badnik. Sonic saw the steam rising from the cracks. The thing could overheat?
Sonic flew at the back, only for ATLAS to swing around at Sonic. Sonic felt the fist collide with his super form. It was so strange, feeling pain while going super. He felt something wet drip down his forehead.
Sweat. He was sweating.
Sonic shook his body before looking up at ATLAS. Sonic was honestly glad that Eggman was at least sporty enough to let him have a breather.
"You aren't looking too good, Hedgehog. Come on, at least make this interesting." Eggman taunted, although Sonic almost felt like he was pitying Sonic.
"Sorry, just let you have some fun… Get ready." Sonic grinned at the Large Badnik, catching his breath and shoving aside his anger.
Sonic zipped forward, moving straight at ATLAS.
"I SEE YOU!" Eggman shouted from inside the giant suit of armor, and raised the metal fist to smash Sonic.
Super Sonic banked left, and ran around as Eggman brought the fist down, before he dragged it along the ground trying to smack Sonic.
Sonic kept circling, before Eggman finally pulled the fist up and it began to steam. The Robot's eyes seemed to change to a yellowish color.
Sonic turned and jumped up at the steaming back. The shields rose and Sonic flew over the back and aimed for the head. He began to plummet down onto the metal skull.
The left arm raised up and shielded the skull as Sonic slammed into the barrier, before flying back.
"Honestly hedgehog, were you so lonely you turned to Starline's little science fair project to companionship?" Eggman growled as ATLAS turned around to face Sonic.
"I needed help to save my friends!" Sonic shouted at Eggman, before flashing with a Chaos blast again. Sonic felt tired from simply blasting, and he was honestly panicking.
"No you didn't, let's be honest Sonic. You could have beaten half of those Super Badniks on your own. I didn't even finish some of them before you got to them." Eggman snorted smugly from inside that stupid tin-can, "No matter how hard that little scuffle we had shook you, you could have easily found a way to win."
Sonic smirked, "Well, Maybe it's just boring going it alone. It's a lot more fun with friends." Sonic got up and began to circle ATLAS once more, looking for some weak point he could hit on his own.
He could have called Tails and the others here, but the last thing he wanted was an Angry Super Sonic burning them all to a crisp because he let an angry chaos blast slip.
"More friends? How long have we been doing this, Sonic? They're tolerated inconveniences for you at best. What really made you seek out such a horrible creature?" Eggman glowered at Sonic.
"SHE'S TRYING, SHE WAS GOOD!" Sonic shouted and surged at the side of ATLAS, only to slam into the golden barrier and getting blasted back.
"So that's it?" Eggman muttered through ATLAS, before he began to laugh.
Sonic got up, and growled.
Eggman continued, this time, laughing, "You have quite the pride issue, don't you hedgehog?"
"What are you talking about, Eggman, I'm as humble as they come." Sonic growled, sliding between the legs before flying out of the way of the right leg as the badnik spun around.
"Oh ho ho, Hedgehog. You're not so coy." ATLAS raised its fist and flew straight at Super Sonic, "You were wounded by the fact that I returned to my full mental faculties despite all your talk of being "redeemable"."
Super Sonic slammed into the sand from the force of the fist.
"So you sought out another irredeemable soul and wanted to prove yourself right. That's why you involved the little freak!" Sonic felt the fist slam him into the sand even harder.
He shouted and flashed a chaos blast, denting the right fist's knuckles before Super Sonic surged towards the chest, "I KNEW SHE WAS A GOOD SOUL!"
The shield appeared and Sonic slammed into it full force. The Super Badnik staggered back from behind the shield as Sonic continued to press through the pain.
The shield flaired and blasted Sonic back.
"Face it h- Hedgehog, You couldn't live with the idea that some of us are just meant to be bad. So you forced her to go along and play hero with you. Deep down, she was always going to be a monster. At least I made sure you never had to see your failure." Eggman taunted.
Sonic's eyes burned open and he shouted, "YOU FAILED! YOU FAILED YOURSELF!" He burst out of the ground slammed into the badnik again, smashing against the shield, "YOU COULD BEEN A GOOD MAN, A RESPECTED MAN, BUT YOU HAD TO BE A BIG JERK INSTEAD!"
Sonic got blasted back onto the ground, before jumping right back up, "I WANTED A BREAK FROM ALL OF THIS! I WANTED TO FINALLY REST, AND LET THE WORLD BE, BUT YOU AND YOUR FANBOY COULDN'T HELP YOURSELVES!" Super Sonic continued to probe the Super Badnik as Eggman Scrambled to block the incoming attacks.
Sonic felt himself slow down only for a moment, but Eggman seized it, and the fist launched Sonic into the sand dune.
He finally had time to think about everything that was finally coming out. Sonic sat up, "Yeah… Yeah Eggman, I wanted her to be good. I wanted to believe… that people could change… That we aren't just… stuck the way we are." Sonic looked at the broken form of Surge.
Her mouth was slightly open, but in a sad, almost melancholic smile. She had died believing they'd won, and it was Sonic's fault she got involved. "I wanted to think that we call get a second chance, a good do-over." Sonic staggered to his feet, the golden energy resurfacing brighter, "I wanted to believe that people were good, that sometimes, they just need a little help… and you know what?" Sonic felt the grin rise across his face, before flying straight at ATLAS.
"WHAT MORE DO YOU HAVE TO SAY!" Eggman shouted as ATLAS threw another punch directly at Sonic.
Sonic spun around and flew straight at the head, "I WAS RIGHT! SHE WAS GOOD, SHE CAME BACK!"
"AND NOW SHE'S DEAD!" Eggman shouted and Sonic felt himself flatten against the Barrier that appeared. ATLAS began to steam as Eggman threw another punch at Super Sonic.
Sonic flew back and slammed into the ground where he heard… Whimpering? Sonic looked up to see Kit, out of the safe zones, curled up around Surge. His squeaks weren't anything coherent, but were more of an animalistic weep.
Sonic staggered to his feet. Eggman was right in that regard. Surge had made the choice to do good in the world, she had chosen to be better than Starline wanted. And She had died, trying to help Sonic.
Super Sonic jerked around as Eggman tried to crush him. Sonic zipped forward, and slammed into the chest, which pulled up its shield, blasting Sonic back into the ground.
"FACE IT, HEDGEHOG, YOU CAN'T WIN!" Eggman shouted in a panicked state.
Sonic quickly got up, and zipped over to the Chaos Emeralds, gathering all of them up as Eggman Stomped around.
The Chaos Emeralds had a little more power left in them, and Sonic needed it. He closed his eyes and drew on the remaining power to extend Super Sonic for a little bit longer.
The Emeralds conceded, but they turned a grey-black color, and fell on the ground.
ATLAS stood behind him, "Enough of this, Hedgehog!" Eggman's voice sounded weaker. Sonic must have been wearing him down.
Sonic burst at ATLAS, ready to finish it off. Instead of blocking, however, ATLAS backed up, and Sonic felt the fist fling him back int the sand dunes.
He heard Kit's weeping once again. The poor little guy. Sonic tried to pick himself up, but found he couldn't stand without getting winded. Sonic saw Surge's peaceful face, and found himself at a crossroads.
He could fix his body and throw down some more with Eggman. Sonic staggered to his knees, and began to crawl towards the two. He wasn't making any progress; the energy would be wasted because… Sonic couldn't win. He knew it, Eggman had finally built a badnik too great for him.
"I'm sorry Surge. " Super Sonic grumbled as he crawled towards her, "I didn't mean for you to get hurt. You've sacrificed so much for me." Super Sonic dragged himself towards the Tenrec. Sonic was tired.
His other option came into view. It wasn't fair that Surge gave up so much for him. He collapsed right next to her. Super Sonic reached out into her open hand, and curled his fingers over it. Sonic closed his eyes, and began to try something he had almost forgotten how to do.
The golden energy drained from his toes and top quills as the process started. then down his face and up his legs turned blue. His right arm followed before Sonic's eyes finally saw the glove swallow the last bit of golden light from his body.
Sonic felt tired, very tired. It was time to finally take a rest from fighting Eggman.
/c-c/
Surge tried to walk towards the bright light, but she couldn't move any further. Starline's grip around her quills kept pulling her back. Back into the sounds of saws and drills, back into the sounds of screams and agony.
"L-LET ME GO YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" Surge shouted as she continued to run straight ahead, only to continue to be dragged back. She didn't want to back into that darkness, she didn't want to get hurt anymore.
"I told you, you will always belong to me!" Starline cackled as Surge felt her shoes give way with their grip, and she began to slide back faster.
"NO! NO! NO!" Surge screamed as tears poured down her face, she got lower and tried to dig her fingers into the cold, black stone beneath her. She grip so tight to stop herself from going back. That light was burning in the distance, and she was ready to go there.
"Give up, you'll never be free of what you've done. You betrayed everyone and thing you cared about, there is no good ending for you." Starline cackled in an pleased, bitchy little voice.
"LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!" Surge screamed, as the rock she had grabbed finally snapped and Surge was pulled back even harder. Surge scrambled to dig her fingers into solid stone as She wasn't dragged towards the spooky fucking cave.
Starline just kept pulling her to a different type of darkness, not spooky from mystery, but instead just fucking cold and dark and probably sharp as shit.
"YOU WILL NEVER BE…." Starline's voice stopped, before he squeaked in a shrill voice, "NO, YOU CAN'T DO THIS!"
Surge felt Starline' grip on her vanish as a light burned behind her. She looked over her shoulder and saw a blue hedgehog, rushing towards them with a fierce gaze.
"F-Faker, what the fuck are you doing here?" Surge shouted. She knew exactly where she was, which made her… nervous about why he was there. He should have been fine.
Sonic didn't say a word. He just kept running at the two. Surge saw his fist seemed to be glowing a golden light.
"STAY BACK YOU FOOL!" Starline shouted as for once, he was the one afraid. Sonic completely ignored Starline's cry as he lunged forward and grabbed the platypus by the throat. Sonic's eyes closed as his fist began to light up brighter.
Starline's form jerked as his feet began to dissolve. Surge saw heard him scream as he began to dissolve into a golden specks of dust. Starline's legs went next, and his arms started to dissolve. Surge felt herself gawking at the sight of the monster that had plagued her for so long… just dissapper.
The last thing to dissolve was the tip of Starline's beak. Sonic's eyes finally opened, and he smiled at Surge, an innocent, happy smile. She felt… off. He walked over to her and held out a hand. She took it, and stood up.
"Shit man, what are you doing here?" Surge laughed a little nervously.
Sonic didn't say anything. He looked past her at the glowing light in the distance. Surge turned around, and looked back at him, "Yo, What the fuck is going on?"
Sonic turned to her and gave her a… really sad smile. He clasped his hands around hers. This shit was getting weird. Surge felt her hands open and she felt something solid in between them. Surge saw a torch appear, burning bright as the light from Sonic's hand disappeared. He still held her hands for a few more moments.
Surge felt his hands release her own, "Dude, what the fuck are you doing?" Surge continued to look into his face, that sad smile.
He gave her a two finger salute, before rushing towards the light in the distance. Surge tried to follow him, but he seemed to move so much faster than her. Eventually, Surge had to stop and catch her breath, "BITCH, STOP RUNNING!"
He didn't listen, he ran further into the light.
Surge couldn't see him anymore. She looked at the torch in her hands, before turning around and finding that scary, mysterious cave had followed her along the way. It wouldn't be so scary with that light, and it seemed to be the only place to go.
Surge growled, "Whatever, fuck it." And Ran back into the cave.
Surge felt hundreds of nerves light up as her eyes bolted open, electricity cackled around her as thunder rolled in. The skies darked as Surge found herself floating over the sand, ATLAS standing there motionless, returning her gaze as Surge felt rage, power and a strange sense of mental clarity.
"RAAAAH!" Surge roared, as she noticed her quills. The normal green had turned an orange-ish red… like the color of copper. As she hovered over the ground… she felt incredible, unstoppable.
Surge couldn't help but laugh as any pain she felt was gone, instead replaced with a tickling sensation.
"M-Ma'am! You're ok!" Surge looked down and saw Kit's face, bright and joyful, his eyes sparkling as if he had been crying and full of hope. Surge felt a little bad at how sad she'd made him.
"You bet, Drippy!" Surge shouted as her body flashed brighter for a moment, burning the sand in excitement.
"H-How do you feel?" Kit asked, still looking a little cautious.
"I FEEL FUCKING SUPER!" Surge shouted again, feeling her heart thump with joy. Hell, Starline's voice wasn't even there to rain on her parade.
Surge allowed herself to descend next to her Fennec friend. Faker-boy was taking a nap, oh well. Surge laughed, "Alright, I guess I got to do all of this shit myself, as always."
She turned and looked up at ATLAS, "Hey Eggbitch, you've been quiet, Speak up."
"… You were dead, now you're alive? The hedgehog brought you back for some reason… What are you?" The Fatass asked.
"Me, I'm just Starline's little freak." Surge grinned up at Eggman, "Starline wanted me to replace Faker boy. I guess I can start by BEATING YOUR ASS!" Surge shouted, and sparked towards ATLAS.
"DON'T EVEN TRY!" fatass shouted, with ATLAS raising its fist. Surge ran straight at it sparking with energy.
Unfortunately, she may have over estimated her power, as it fucking hurt when she got smacked down into the dirt. What the Hell? She was super, which meant she should have been invincible. Surge snarled and sparked again, "CHEAP FUCKING SHOT!"
Surge jumped up and bolted at him, curling into a ball as he raised his fist again. Instead of smashing through again, Surge felt herself slam into the shield that had fucked with her on the other big robot shits.
She felt the sand slam into her stomach, and Surge staggered to her feet, feeling furious. This was bullshit, She should have stomped that Giant robot piece of shit!
Surge heard the sound of air rippling through the sky, and saw Kit's glowing eyes. The little guy was still in the fight. He was throwing chunks of buildings at the Super Badnik.
Surge felt… useless. How was Drippy doing a better number on Fatass than her? Surge balled her fist, and felt her body sparking hotter than it normally ever did. She shouted as her body became numb with rage.
ATLAS turned to looked at her as she flew towards the giant robot, "FUCK YOU!" She screamed as her vision burned white. She could feel herself glowing as she slammed into the shield as the robot Gorilla-man swung its fist at her.
Surge however, slammed into the shield and it cracked, pulsing as if it were damaged. Surge landed as the shield disappeared.
"WHAT? IMPOSSIBLE!" The Fatass shouted at Surge.
Surge blinked and looked down at her hand she saw what looked like white fire from a blowtorch coming from her fist. Surge laughed, "WELL, THAT'S A NICE FUCKING SURPRISE, TIME TO DIE!" Surge jumped up as ATLAS began to steam up.
"STAY BACK YOU FREAK!" Eggman shouted frantically. He was scared, good.
Surge jumped up at the shield, which still had a crack on the fist that had only slightly repaired itself. Surge swung her burning fist like a sword against the shield, which turned orange from the heat. Surge swung again, and it began to crack.
"STOP IT!" The fatass shouted angrily at Surge.
She screamed as she burned hotter, a deafening explosion erupting in her ear as the world flashed bright before calming down. Surge felt stronger, more energized as thunder rolled in again.
Surge looked up and realized she had hit the ground.
Surge saw the cloud overhead rumbling with electricity. Watched as a few bolts of lighting sparked on her shoulders as Surge walked slowly towards ATLAS, which was steaming like crazy. She took her time with each stride, a grin on her face from cheek to cheek.
Surge stretched out her arms, "COME ON, ASSHOLE, I GOT BETTER THINGD TO DO!"
The Fatass must not have liked that at all, because the right fist threw a shielded punch at Surge. She grinned, and lunged straight at the cracked shield. The two collided in the air as a piece of rubble flew at the back of ATLAS.
The shield shattered as Surge burst through, rushing straight at the fist with her white-burning glow. Before she even made contact with the metal, it began to steam and turn red. Surge burst forward, smashing through the fist, burning through ATLAS's arm. Surge continued to burn all the way until she burst through the shoulder, before turning back around and grinned at ATLAS.
"NO! NO! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I WORKED ON THIS? I PLANNED THIS FOR WEEKS! YOU'VE SET IT ALL BACK!" Eggman's voice shouted from inside the giant badnik.
Surge hovered for a moment, before slowly nodding, "Yeah… Thanks… for everything. But I can't let you win."
""thanks?" What are you so happy about?" The Fat Scientist asked, both confused and angry.
Surge flew down at the second arm, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have had a good time and made the friends I did! SO THANK YOU, ASSHOLE!"
"DON'T YOU SET ME BACK LIKE THAT RODENT!" Eggman shouted as he raised the left fist to punch her. The shield appeared in front of the fist as the two went in to clash. Surge slammed into the barrier that was already orange despite not having a crack, "YOU AREN'T MEANT TO BEAT ME!"
"I'M DOING WHAT I GOTTA DO!" Surge shouted as she ground against the shield. It quickly turned orange as Surge pushed harder, shouting, "YOU NEED TO BE STOPPED!"
Suddenly, the shield dropped as the back of ATLAS burst into flames. Surge only realized this after she burst out of the shoulder, and turned around to see the eyes of ATLAS were dim as fire burst all around. Surge saw the skull spark a bit, and a scream went out, "HELP ME!"
Surge blinked, looking at the skull which had locked up, "WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I HELP YOU! YOU'VE ONLY RUINED PEOPLES' LIVES!" Surge screamed at the metal husk.
"PLEASE!" The doctor sounded… terrified, like he was crying.
"Why didn't you ice the old man?"
"It's not my style I'll just keep stopping him until he learns not to be a bad guy."
That day was never going to fucking come.
"PLEASE HELP ME!" Surge saw the fires rising up the back. She wasn't killing him, just leaving him to his own stupidity.
Surge growled, and shot through the metal skull, grabbing the fatass and flinging him into the sand, "There, shut the fuck up, they'll deal with you in a bit!"
Eggman sat up and panted, before falling back.
Surge landed on the ground and let out a breath. She felt the energy inside her disappear, and she laughed as she walked back up the sand hill, "Damn, Faker, that felt awesome, why don't you just stay like that all the time?"
She climbed up the sand as she was met with silence, "Yo, Faker, I asked you a question?"
As she saw the blue hedgehog again, she noticed he was still in the exact same spot he was before. Surge rolled her eyes, "Hey, bitch, I did all the work, you can wake up now!"
Surge waited for a response. Nothing, She was getting pissed off, "Come on, this isn't funny! Get up, asshole!"
Surge ran down to where Sonic was and kicked him in the side. No noise, he just rolled over. Surge felt her heart rate increase, "What the Fuck! You aren't- You can-!" Surge's mouth struggled to voice her frustrations. Sonic couldn't die!
"I fucking care now! What the fuck!" She shouted at the limp form, "DON'T You fucking-!" Surge panted.
She waited for Starline's cheers in her head. Instead… she got nothing, "Starline? You piece of shit, are you happy?"
Nothing.
"What the fuck!" Surge panted, she ran and grabbed the black rocks on the ground, "STOP PLAYING WITH ME!"
She held them up, trying to milk some power out of them. She got nothing.
"DAMN IT!"
"SONIC!" Surge heard the voices coming over the sand as Kit sat down next to Sonic, looking shocked.
Surge knew there was going to be some accusation. She couldn't handle facing them. She ran and grabbed inside Sonic's quills and pulled out a warp ring. She ran and tossed it.
"SURGE, MA'AM!" Kit cried. Surge didn't even look back as she ran through, landing right behind the arcade they had played together on their last day. She slumped down in the alleyway and gathered her thoughts.

The funeral was held on a bright, sunny day. The grave was placed on a hill, in between three trees, two on the right, and one on the left. The tombstone was grey, placed between two torches. Off in the distance, the wooden framework for a statue of the blue faker was set up in the city.
Surge watched from a distance as the little yellow fox sputtered broke down crying. There were so many recognizable faces that showed up. Most, Surge had rescued but there were a few that Surge didn't recognize. A few.
Like most of the people who had been saved by Sonic had better things to do than to honor the savior of the world.
Surge saw Kit, looking around for her, but she kept out of sight. Surge knew he was better off with them… even if it would hurt him at first.
Surge was surprised that the pink one didn't go up and start bawling in her fucking eyes out. Pink just walked up to the closed casket, and pressed her head on it.
Tails was not as stoic, and hugged the casket so hard crying, "SONIC! COME BACK!" Surge could see his gloves cutting into the side of the casket.
Surge didn't approach. They wouldn't want to see her. She was the reason Sonic was… gone, she couldn't deny that. If Faker bitch hadn't been so heroic, hadn't gone for the last laugh, he'd still be there.
"You could be a hero and do some good in the world"
Surge almost laughed at the idea. She saw the purple cat walk up to the casket, her eyes closed, and she leaned down to kiss the top of the wood, where the forehead was. She muttered something and then walked back to take her seat.
Surge watched the casket get lowered into the ground, before the members took turned, scooping dirt over it, except for the black hedgehog, who seemed to lean against the tree with his arms crossed.
She felt a pit in her stomach as the dirt began to fall in the hole. Surge shook her head.
Alright, Star-bitch, go ahead, let's hear about how happy you are.
Surge waited, and still he seemed to have nothing to say. He was a fucking bad house guest, living in her skull… unless…
Surge thought about what happened. Sonic touched her, and she stopped hearing Starline's voice… Surge frowned and scrunched her eyes. Just another thing she'd have to thank him for.
Eventually, everyone had to take care of other shit. They scatter to where ever everyone went. The last ones there were Kit and Tails. Drippy still seemed to scan around, as if hoping she would show up.
Surge could see he was depressed, and torn apart. Still, she stuck to her gut, Drippy needed those friends, and he needed to break away from Starline's programming.
The yellow fox gave the Fennec a hug, and they left. Surge waited a few minutes, before zipping up the hill. She looked at the grave stone, and frowned. Her face was… leaking. She was crying, "Alright… You got me asshole… ha-ha-ha-ha." Surge growled as her voice contorted, "You got me crying, there you go, bitch. Now come on, come on out."
The grave sat there, quietly, not even bothering to give her an answer.
"I know you're hiding out there somewhere, catching this shit on video or something." Surge laughed bitterly, "Going to pull it out on some day where I think I'm feelin' pretty fucking good." She felt her breathing tighten angrily. What was taking him so long?
Of course.
"Oh, I see, You thought you'd fucking go like some big hero, and I'd feel guilty and have to change my ways!" Surge shouted, kneeling at the grave stone. It remained silent through it all, "You fucking though "Oh, Surge'll have to be a good fucking hero if I sacrifice myself like a fucking moron." Right?"
Silence.
Surge snarled, "WELL YOU'RE WRONG! GET OUT HERE ASSHOLE!" She shouted, before kicking the marker, causing the top right corner to break off, "IF YOU DON'T I'LL… I'll… I'll kill all your friends, I'll burn all this shit down! It's not funny!"
She could feel the water rushing down her cheek as she screamed. The grave didn't respond, despite all of the punishment Surge dished it.
Surge's chest began to heave as she struggled to speak. Her knee's felt weak, and surge collapsed as she finally broke, and used her last resort, "Please come back…. I loved you, damn it. I said it! I didn't want you to die, you were…. ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY NOW! I MISS YOU!"
"Sheesh, way to make a guy feel bad." Surge knew that voice, and she jerked around.
There he was, blue faker-boy, sitting there with a smug ass look while leaning against a tree.
"You Son of a Bitch!" Surge couldn't help but laugh with excitement, "You had me going there for a second!" She jumped up as a dark blue mother goat passed by with her light blue kid.
"Mommy, loo-" The kid pointed at Surge.
The goat grabbed her kid and pulled him along, "Some people cope in different ways."
"HEY, ASSHOLES, CAN'T YOU-" Surge shouted before coming to the realization, "You're not fucking real?"
Sonic smiled against the tree, rubbing his nose, "There you go, that little light in your head went off."
"W-What the fuck? You aren't real, why are you here?" Surge shouted angrily, why was he fucking with her?
"Why do you think?" Sonic asked smugly, walking up next to her and putting a hand on his grave. That a surreal experience.
"I don't fucking know! Just fucking show yourself!" Surge shouted, stomping on the ground.
"You know why I can't." Sonic smiled at her.
Surge staggered to her feet and struggled to make sense of everything.
Sonic shook his head and sighed, "Maybe your brain can't handle the idea that I'm gone, maybe because Sonic was the whole reason you lived, you need a Sonic to keep going."
Surge growled, "Why did you do it… Why'd you fucking-"
"Just shut up, sheesh, you know exactly why I did it. Because it wasn't about me." Sonic shook his head, "You're such a selfish little shit that you couldn't make that sacrifice."
Surge felt that cut on her heart grow, along with her anger, "YOU SHUT UP! I TRIED TO BE GOOD, I TRIED TO HELP OUT! I WANTED TO FUCKING HELP YOU!"
"And you ended up living while I died. That's a fair deal, after you stabbed me in the back." He muttered sarcastically, before shaking his head as the sun seemed to get lower in the sky.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP, I HATE YOU, YOU MADE SOME BIG CHANGE IN ME, YOU PROMISED TO SEE THIS THROUGH, AND YOU BROKE IT!" Surge screamed as tears rolled down her face.
"You don't hate me, because you need me to keep going. I'm your big reason for existing. If I don't exist, what are you?" Sonic smiled at her, with that smug, grin.
"I DON'T LIVE FOR YOU, I DON'T LIVE FOR ANYONE, I DON'T NEED SOMEONE TO TELL MY FUCKING EXISTENCE AND I DON'T NEED YOU!" Surge shouted from a fury of anger and rage.
Sonic's smug smile turned… sad, as Surge realized what she had said, "Yep, There you go. Just… try to keep some people safe. You got the power and the potential."
Surge shook her head, "No…nonono…"
Sonic past his grave and looked towards the setting sun, "The truth is… you never did need me to believe in you or help you. You just needed to help yourself. See you around." Sonic smiled as Surge lunged forward.
"DON'T GO!" She shouted throwing her hand out, but the sun began to reflect the light off the sky scrapers in the distance, blinding her for a moment.
When she opened her eyes… he was gone.
"Typical, pathetic." A voice grumbled to Surge's right.
She jerked and saw the Black Hedgehog, sitting behind the tree.
"W-what the fuck are you doing here?" Surge growled, standing up and snarling.
"Just waiting for you to finally come over." The Black hedgehog snorted.
"You knew I was waiting? Mother fucker, do you want to fight?" Surge growled.
"Not now, you're pathetic, and definitely beneath me." Black snorted, "Let him go."
Surge blinked, before balling her fist, "You can't believe that, he was the fucking savior of the world!"
"And he was arrogant, and stubborn, and a fool. He was always prone to making some stupid decision on a whim, and people suffered for it. Faker was great at clean up, but when it came to preventing problems like our dear little doctors, he always saved it for another day." The black hedgehog shook his head.
"Oh, and you'd do fucking better?" Surge balled her fist and grit her teeth.
"I'm the ultimate lifeform… still, he did his job well. Stop thinking as perfect though. He was not a perfect man with his life planned out and a bright future ahead of him." The black shook his head, "The only thing he really got right was the principle, that the world needed a protector… and that maybe some people could be good."
"The World needs a savior." Surge growled softly, feeling her throat clench up, "He's gone now."
Black snorted, "What are you going to do about it?" he seemed to be scanning her, and Surge was tempted to put a fist through his eyes.
"What the fuck can I do? I kinda killed the savior of the world. I'm kind of not really worth the trouble of a redemption story." Surge felt her mind jump around, "Want me to hang out with his friends, sing Kumbaya? Not really my style."
The black hedgehog shook his head, "You didn't try to destroy the world. You're hardly disqualified."
Surge blinked for a moment, not really getting what he was saying, "So what? I get to be the new Sonic? Is that what you want?" Surge balled her fist.
"I don't care. Do what ever you want. But don't martyr yourself over trivial past. We all need to move on." The black hedgehog walked away, before zipping off into the distance.
Surge was left… alone, with the two torches burning beside the tomb stone. Sonic… he wanted her to stay and be a hero. She wasn't exactly a nice person, and she wasn't going to make friends easy. She saw the statue in the distance.
"No big statues or anything. "
Surge picked up the torch, and ran to the wooden scaffolding.
"Just let me be free while someone else carries the torch."
It caught fire pretty easy as Surge made her decision: She'd protect the world he cared about so much, but she couldn't put his friends through the pain of seeing her. She'd protect the world, but she'd do it alone. Surge made that promise as she looked forward with her eyes full of determination. That'll be their compromise.

Alright, So I left two markers about stuff I thought of adding, but didn't

Surge snuck some old pizza as the day rolled around to night, then to day. She rode on the train to clear her head. Was Faker-boy really…
Surge looked out of the window as the news was plastered on the side of a large club banner: "Sonic the Hedgehog, dead!"
Surge stepped out of the train and walked up to the banner which was starting to amass several people. Surge felt her heart beat faster as she read the sign…over and over again. Bullshit.
"Sound the Alarm." Surge panted, "Shattered me like glass…"
He couldn't be gone. Not another person in her life that had left her after promising to stick through it.
"Covered in scars." Surge whined as she felt all their little talks coming back, "But roses are coming through the cracks."
Surge felt her heart feel slightly better as she sang, "Time that you killed." He had promised to stick with her till the end, "You promised to help me rebuild, Caught off guard, sound the alarm."
Surge could feel the eyes of the world around her as she broke, "YOU SAID YOU'D KEEP ME SAFE, NOW YOU'RE TEARING ME DOWN!"
Why was she acting so sad, she wanted this, didn't she? "AM I LAID TO WASTE NOW THAT YOU'RE NOT AROUND?"
Surge felt her fist shaking. Then again, Sonic had helped her through so much. She was definitely different, "COME AND LEAVE YOUR MARK, VANDALIZE MY HEART!"
He couldn't be gone, her chest continued to tear her apart, "FIGHT THE PAIN AWAY, MY HEAD IS RUINS. NEED YOU VEINS, DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT!"
Surge arced her back as the crowd began to gather around and stare, "COME AND LEAVE YOUR MARK, VANDALIZE MY HEART!"
Surge panted as she became painfully aware that people were staring at her. Her attention shifted to the large banner as a Giant Sonic appeared on it, along with a bunch of photos from older days.
Suddenly the Giant Sonic on the banner seemed to turn his head to face her, "Did we make a work of art just so you could deface it?"
Surge shook her head and bolted down the street. Unfortuantely, the banner stretched for a bit, and as she ran, the Sonic seemed to follow her, "Did you let it fall apart just so you could replace it?" His voice sounded bitter and accusatory at her.
"NO! NO I FUCKING DIDN'T!" Surge shouted as she finally ran into the city square.
Where all of the banners lit up with the news. Surge found herself surrounded by Sonics who all seemed to look at her, " Tag your name on the side of a burning bridge, watch it fade as the smoke rolls in?"
Surge looked for anywhere to run to. She ran through the street as Sonics seemed to follow her where ever she went, "Time that you killed, you promised to help me rebuild!" Sonic seemed to accuse her.
Surge kept running, closing her eyes as tears finally rolled and guilt seemed to crush her.
Sonic gave last line, " Feels like you planned it, took us for granted."
Surge tripped in the road, a quickly ran to the sidewalk, pleading with the billboard that seemed to return to Sonic giving a thumbs up, "You said you'd keep me safe, now you're tearing me down."
Surge ran down the street, never escaping Sonic, "Am I laid to waste, now that you're not around? Come and leave your mark, vandalize my heart!"
Surge kept running until she got to a bridge… very high up. As She looked over the railing, Surge could see the waves crashing against the support beams. Surge screamed, "FIGHT THE PAIN AWAY, MY HEAD IS RUINS. I NEED YOU IN MY VEINS, DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT!"
Surge ran across until she saw another banner and Sonic seemed to glare at her, "Come and leave your mark, vandalize my heart."
Sonic seemed to point a finger at her, "Oohhh, you're freaking crazy-"
"Hate me?" Surge asked softly.
"-Love you breaking bottles on the pavement, just to watch them crash?" Sonic seemed to accuse. Surge blinked a tear filled gaze, only to find him returned to his original position.
Surge whispered in an angry cry, ""You said you'd keep me safe, now you're tearing me down." She was losing her mind, "Am I laid to waste, now that you're not around? Come and leave your mark."
Surge clutched her chest, "Vandalize my heart! I'll fight the pain away, my head is in ruins!"
Surge ran far to a the hills in the distance, "Need you in my veins, don't know how you do it? Come and leave your mark!"
Surge screamed in the hill, "VANDALIZE MY HEART!" She slumped behind a tree on a hill and closed her eyes, before eventually falling asleep.

I thought about adding it when atypicalgirl suggested it, but I ultimately didn't go with it for the symbolic reason of Surge's duet partner was gone, and so a song couldn't be sung.

Charmy sat in the giant whale Badnik. He waited patiently, "They'll be here any second now."
He continued to wait, "Any second now."
He was oblivious to the fact that he was at the bottom of the sea.

I wanted to remind everyone that Charmy was still at the bottom of the ocean. Charmy can't have nice things, it's like a rule for the comics. Still, I thought it would take away from the emotion of the last bit.

I would like than Albian for the idea of giving Surge plasma, I didn't really think of that, but I wanted to make Super Surge unique, so I stole that idea.
Note that I won't be posting a bunch of endings in succession. Just one at a time.
I had an idea for a sequel planned out that would follow Surge, but I'm not sure I want to pursue it. How much do keep a story going before you just say, "That's enough, it's gone on too long".
That being said, this is the canon ending. I know some people will hate it, some people will think's it's acceptable, and some will love it. But this was where it was going from the start.
Please, leave a review, and tell me what you thought with one more thing: What is one thing I did great and one thing I did terribly. I'll start so you know it's ok to say I did some things bad:
I think I did really good the Super Badniks. They each were related to the mobian they held in some form or fashion and they had personality. It might be arrogant to say, but I think they are better than the bosses in Frontiers.
I did, however, gloss over the fact that Surge is supposed to HATE Sonic. I never really had her fight him except at the start and at the end. They should have fought more, but I just seemed to ignore that important detail as I wrote the story.

Seriously people, I see over 40 followers, only four consistent reviewers. At least leave me a send off review if you're done with the story.
