(Just assume that it's Fitz's POV. I'll write if the POV changes)
I follow Elwin down to the Family room, while Biana stays up with Sophie. When we get down we see Grady and Edaline standing with mom, with a confused expression on their faces. Elwin clears his throat and says, "You might want to sit down for this. It's about Sophie."
Edaline still looks confused, but Grady put the pieces together, and had a grief stricken look on his face. He slumped back on the couch, while Edaline sat up with perfect, poised posture. Elwin, mom, and I sat on the loveseats that were near the couch that Grady and Edaline were sitting on.
"So, umm, something sort of happened with Sophie during the healing. Umm, Alden is ok. He's sleeping right now, getting his rest in because he didn't get much even though he was unconscious for a long period of time.
Well I'm rambling now, so back to Sophie. She's in Fitz's room with Biana, and she's not really in the 'best condition' you could say," Elwin said awkwardly.
"What do you mean 'not in the best condition?'" Grady painfully whispered. Elwin closed his eyes, and just blurted out, "She got lost!"
Both Grady and Edaline had a delayed reaction, but once the words finally settled in, Edaline's eyes flooded with tears, threatening to fall. Edaline was sad, hearing the news, but Grady was the complete opposite. Both of his hands clenched into fists so tight, that his fingernails would probably break the skin with the slightest bit more pressure.
Grady looked over at his wife, and when he saw the tears in her eyes, and the little tears starting to fall, he went into "comforting husband mode." He wrapped his arms around her, and pulled into a tight hug, letting her cry into his shoulder. It was a heartbreaking scene.
Edaline composed herself enough that she wasn't sobbing, and asked Elwin in a broken voice, "Can we see her? Please?" Her voice trailed off at the end to a whisper, but Elwin heard, and nodded. Elwin and I led them to my room, and we saw Sophie silently thrashing, and Biana sobbing in the corner.
I guess seeing Sophie like this was too much for Biana, and apparently too much for Edaline as well. She fell to her knees and wrapped her arms around them, curling up into a ball and started sobbing again. Elwin walked over to Sophie and poured another sedative down her throat.
"Well, if you want to take her to your house, we have to do it now, before her mind gets any worse. The longer we wait, the more concentration you would have to wrap around her, meaning the higher chance of fading away," Elwin says sadly, his gaze leaving us, and trailing back to Sophie.
Grady nodded and said, "I can leap her by myself, but I want to bring Edaline home first. She's not really in the best state of mind to be leaping. I'll be back momentarily." He lifted up a leaping crystal and said, "Havenfield." And with that he was gone.
"I'm going to go back to my office at Foxfire really quickly and grab more of the sedatives. I'll be back in five minutes tops. If Grady comes back before me, just tell him to wait for one minute, so that I can give him the sedatives, ok?" I nodded, and walked over to my still sobbing sister, who made herself as small as possible, trying to melt into the corner.
I sat next to her and wrapped my arms around her. I kissed her hair saying, "It's going to be ok. She'll come back to us. I know it." I know she's going to come back, because I'm going to heal her mind. I'm going to save her.
I kiss her hair one last time, then I get up and walk towards Sophie. No, I'm not going to enter her mind right now. I'm not that stupid. I sit on my head near her face, and I study her. Her nose is ever so slightly scrunched up in pain, and her lips are pressed into a thin line. If it weren't for those features, it would have looked as if she's sleeping. And she should be sleeping, because we've given her two sedatives in under an hour, but with a broken mind, nothing can numb the pain. I keep staring at her, and I know that if she was awake right now, she would be ten times redder, probably more than that from just me staring at her.
I know she likes me, well I hope she still likes me, because I like her too. But it probably doesn't seem like it, because I've been such a jerk to her, and if I could take it all back, I would.
I hear footsteps walk up behind me, and a hand placed on my shoulder. I turn around, and I see Grady looking down on me. He gives me a small smile, before removing his gaze from to and turning his attention towards Sophie.
"Elwin wanted me to tell you that he was going back to his office to give you a small supply of sedatives. He'll be back in a minute," I say, not looking him in the eye. He mumbled a thank you, and moved to give Sophie a kiss on the forehead.
"Hey, I'm back," I hear Elwin say, giving Grady a small bag filled with vials. "It's now safe to leap with her, but you need to wrap more concentration around her than usual," he explained. "Ok, well we'll get going," Grady said, picking Sophie up, one arm around her back, and the other under her knees.
He took out a leaping crystal and said, "Havenfield!" Then he glittered away.
I sigh, and sit back down on my bed, my head in my hands. This day could get any worse.
Well… I thought this day couldn't get any worse. But then I hear my mom knock on my door, and she pops her head into the room. "Fitz, honey, your dad woke up, and he wants to see you and-and Sophie," she said, her voice breaking at Sophie's name. She would now be a legend to our family, bringing our dad back from insanity, but it cost her own sanity.
I sigh, for what seemed like the millionth time today, and started walking to where we were keeping dad. I thought that telling Grady and Edaline would be bad. But telling my dad that Sophie basically died to save him, would be worse. If his mind broke again, nobody would be strong enough to save him.
