Becoming Omega
Summer
"Good morning."
The weather had turned warmer, and though the mountain offered a cool relief, its residents still wore little clothing as possible.
"Holy shit!"
The rest of the Company was inclined to agree, meanwhile, the reason for the outburst was as usual oblivious. Bilbo was still in his night clothes, nothing odd there-the Company had given up at this point on getting Bilbo to change out of his nightclothes- but never this short or thin!
"B-Bilbo." Thorin stuttered
The outfit was cream in color, the shorts, if you could even call it that, came past his thighs and all the Dwarves were terrified of him bending over, no matter how much they loved that big round arse. The thinness of the shirt did nothing to hide the hardened nipples, and the thin, thin, ties that held said shirt together looked very, very loose.
"What's wrong?" Bilbo asked as he placed down a plate filled with breakfast potatoes.
"Erm, well-" Fili started but stopped, unable to figure out what to say that wouldn't hurt the other's feelings.
"It's nothing," Ori said as he went about to help with setting the table.
Behind them, Alfrid left them to it.
"Oh, dear!"
A spoon had fallen off the table.
"Dear Durin, no."
Bilbo picked up the spoon, and Bofur got a very nice view.
"Ah, Bofur's nose is bleeding!'
~.~.~.~
Dis asked Bilbo to join her for tea.
Bilbo accepted.
No Thorin or Company.
It was awkward.
~.~.~.~
Heat.
Bilbo knew what a Heat was, at least in the theory,
A time when an Omega were at their most fertile, and at their most vulnerable. The desire to be bred, changing their scent to something sweet and alluring that grew the longer the Heat lasted. And it made an Alpha near violent with lust, with the desire to breed, to fill and fill with cum.
The thought of him going into one while in Hobbiton had terrified him.
But, the way Olo described his time with his mate, hot, intense, and oh so wonderful; did everything but. It probably didn't help that he imagined one of his Dwarves with him. Large bodies pinning him down and cocks inside him.
It had him squirming.
And yet.
"Are you sure?" Ori asked when Bilbo had brought it up one night they were sharing a bed together.
"I think?" Was the answer.
Because while he was certainly interested, actually doing it was something entirely.
Ori hummed in response, "Do you want to talk to the others about this?"
Suddenly, Bilbo….hesitated.
"Bilbo?"
Bilbo squirmed, picking at the sheets and looking everywhere but at Ori, "Erm," He stuttered out, "maybe we should forget about it."
Ori frowned, before he carefully moved closer, taking the other's fidgeting hands into his, he nuzzled his cheek against Bilbo's; making soft comforting noises until the sour scent that had been emitting from the other was replaced with something not as unpleasant.
"Talk to me, please?" The Dwarf asked.
Bilbo bit at his bottom lip, and doesn't for a long while, long enough that Ori worried he wasn't going to answer. Thankfully, he does, taking a deep breath before speaking.
"If I told the others no, would they listen?"
Understanding dawned on the Dwarf, and his eyes soften into something like sadness.
"Yes. They would."
"Even if I was in Heat?"
"Especially if you were in Heat."
Granted, if Bilbo was in Heat, he wouldn't even be anywhere near an Alpha that he didn't invite. However, Ori pushed back that info for later, instead, he gently coaxed more out of the other, soothing any worries that made the other one panic.
".…Erm…is it weird that I still want to try?" Bilbo asked after about an hour of them talking.
Ori shook his head, "No."
He understood because while Bilbo was curious in nature, this was Alphas they were talking about. Alphas, who, until meeting the Company; had proven to be anything but good. He had every right to be wary. However, it was the Company, Bilbo's Company. Who loved, adored, and gave him good things, including those of a sexual nature. Bilbo knew consciously that they wouldn't hurt him, but instinctively was a different story; there was doubt. And there may always be doubt, but there was also hope. And it seemed like Bilbo wanted to focus on that hope, scared as he was.
Ori was so proud.
"How about this, we both talk to the others, and just go from there."
"...Okay."
~.~.~.~
Somehow, but not surprisingly too well, anyone but Bilbo at this point; Alfrid attended the meeting.
Ori wasn't sure if he should be relieved or not considering the human's tendency to stab first and ask questions never when it came to Bilbo. However, he was here, in his corner watching as the rest of the Company came into the room Ori had gotten for privacy.
"Well, we're all here," Balin said once everyone had been seated, and Alfrid started serving tea. "Shall we start?"
Ori looked to Bilbo and found that he had a death grip on his teacup, and was looking rather faint, a glance at Alfrid and the human was gently coaxing it out of his hands and murmuring softly until Bilbo's shoulder slumped.
This did not go unnoticed.
Ori doesn't let the others get a word in about it, however, deciding that getting to the subject at hand would most likely be best. "What Bilbo and I want to discuss, is a rather serious manner." He said after clearing his throat loudly.
All of the Alphas went tense, looking more than ready to take up arms against whatever was making their Bilbo upset, which painted a very interesting picture for Ori.
"Bilbo has shown interest in sharing his Heat."
Oh my, look at those red faces. Red, but definitely interested faces, red, interested faces turning into worry when it finally clicked as to why Bilbo was nervous.
"That is certainly news," Bombur cleared his throat, then he looked at Bilbo who was much calmer now, and apparently on his third cup of tea, "I am curious as to what brought this on."
Bilbo, having downing his tea in one gulp, declining a fourth, and taking a deep breath; answered. "My book, the one I've talked bout. It spoke of being in Heat and such, and I became interested. Interested in sharing one with you all."
Despite the situation of it all, several of the Dwarves' chests puffed up in pride at being considered, and Ori couldn't blame them for it. At the moment, Bilbo paused and bite his bottom lip, worrying it between his teeth before stuttering out the rest.
"B-But, I-I'm scared! I-I know, I know none of you would hurt me, but, but I'm still scared! Cause this is different then what we've done so far, a-and, a-and-"
It's been a while since any of the Company had seen the other panic like now, and it hurt that they knew that letting Ori hold, purr, and coo, letting him do what they wanted was the best option right now.
"My mate is an Omega." Gloin suddenly said, startling everyone.
Bilbo blinked watery eyes at him, confused and curious.
"Ya haven't met'em, was planning on introducing ya, but everyone was busy and there had been the business with the Princess, then Gimli had gotten sick the day of the celebration and she had to take care of him."
"We said you didn't have to attend." Balin pointed out.
"Aye, ya did. But me lad Gimli insisted so I could tell him bout it all later." Gloin replied before speaking to Bilbo once more, "Bombur has an Omega mate as well."
Bombur nodded, Bilbo hadn't been able to meet her or their children, mainly because of the same reason as Gloin; everyone was still busy. Though the party thing was more along the lines of his mate hating parties and would rather deal with numerous sleepy children at home; the numerous sleepy children at a party.
"What I'm trying to say is, if it's alright with you. We could ask them to come to speak with you, perhaps their knowledge will help ease any fears you may have."
Bilbo stared, and stared more, so much that everyone became nervous, then in a soft voice said "You have mates."
No one was sure what to make of that tone, not even Ori.
~.~.~.~
Usteda and Orilsia knew of the one called Bilbo Baggins. It was impossible not to with the way their mates gushed about him through their letters and later talks. Both had been eager to meet with him, the one who had helped win back their home. Even more so when both Alphas had sat them down and told them about Hobbiton.
"Please tell me the Kings has plans to burn that place to the ground." had been the first thing Usteda said after the Alphas were done.
"Honestly, I think he actually does, but Balin's stopping him. Politics and all that." Gloin answered
Orilsia huffed, obviously unhappy that she couldn't bring down swift and merciless justice, before brightening up, "Of course, we'd love to help! Actually, I have an idea."
Bombur wasn't sure if he should be worried or not, especially with how quickly his wife, Usteda, got on board.
And that's how Bilbo found himself once again in a room, with Gloin and Bombur's mates, one of the Men workers, and another Elf worker.
All Omegas.
"There's so many of you." His voice held a tone of wonderment.
"Aye, there are." Usteda nodded, smiling, "all of us come from all walks of life. So, I'm sure one of us if not all, can help you."
Something about the way Bilbo's face lit up made them all simultaneously melt and filled them with a sense of sorrow, "T-Thank you!"
After tea was served by the ever-dutiful Alfrid, Ori opened up the discussion after Bilbo stumbled over asking a question.
"So, Melody, how do you usually spend your Heat?" He addressed the human.
"Ah, well, before I found my mate. I would seek out a partner the week before it's due to arrive."
"You can tell when it comes?" Bilbo blurted out, before quickly apologizing for interrupting.
"No harm done," Melody smiled, "And yes, Heats have a pattern to them. At least with us Men, not sure if it's the same for Dwarves and Elves. The pattern differs for each person. For example, I nest, but my mother before her passing; had cravings and ate a lot of it."
Melody blinked when Bilbo pulled out a journal and smiled at Alfrid when he set down ink and quill, Ori didn't look one moment of surprise, mainly because he was writing in his own journal. The others just shrugged.
"Erm, right. What was I saying? Oh, right. So, I usually would have a partner in mind, during that week and would approach and ask if they would like to spend my Heat with me."
".…And what happened during it."
"Sex."
Bilbo squeaked.
"A lot of it, also a very cuddly and overprotective Alpha."
".…So, they don't get…aggressive? The Alpha I mean."
There are numerous looks exchanged between the five, before the Elf worker, Aisling; shook her head.
"No, I've never heard or seen an Alpha get aggressive towards an Omega during their Heat. Many believe it impossible."
"Damn near," Usteda snickered, "I've had to reassure my Bombur numerous times, that I want it rough."
"I have to threaten Gloin once," Orilsia added with amusement.
Suddenly the conversation turned into stories of Alphas and their silly ways. Bilbo merely sat there, watched, and listened.
Bilbo something settling in his chest.
