Chapter 6
Caleb's POV
I sat by her bedside holding her hand. After the paramedics took Bella away, Sarah and I drove the hummer and my car to the hospital. Reid and Tyler met us there. This was the first time we got to see her since they brought her in hours ago. I thought back to all this week that led us here. I hated it. Pogue and Kate were awake fully now. Everyone was outside in the hall. Gorman, Sarah, mother, Reid and Tyler. We hadn't told Pogue or Kate anything yet. I got up and walked out when I saw the doctor walk up.
"How is she doctor?" Mother asked him.
"Isabella has suffered a lot of internal damage. She's got ribs broken, a lung collapsed, internal bleeding that was fixed during surgery, then she has orthopedics side as well. Our orthopedic surgeon should be around soon to talk to you more. Mrs. Danvers, I'm going to be honest with you. With all the blood loss Isabella has experienced and the damage done to her body, inside and out, we're surprised she's even alive." He told us.
"When will she wake up?" Reid asked.
"Isabella has slipped into a coma, until she is ready to wake up, there is no telling. But you can talk to her, bring her things from home that she would like, let her know that you're here and it may speed the process up." He said nodding.
"Thanks doc." I said. He nodded again and walked off. Mom and them walked into the room while Sarah and I stood outside of it.
"Come on. We should go home. I'm tired anyways." Sarah said rubbing my arm. I sighed and rubbed my face.
"No. Take my car, I'm going to stay here with Bella." I said pulling out my keys.
"Caleb, she's got everyone here. She'll be fine." She told me.
"I'm not leaving my sister, Sarah. She needs me." I argued.
"I need you. Or have you forgotten the trauma I went through as well?" She scoffed.
"My sister is lying in there, tubes sticking out of her, in pain, being pumped full of different medications! She may not ever wake up, Sarah! Be a little more respectful for the girl who just saved your life more than once." I snapped at her.
"She's fine! She'll be fine! She's got her mother and your friends here with her! Just be considerate and think of me for once." She snapped back.
"I have. I put you before my sister plenty of times this week! My sister needs me now and I'm not leaving her." I snapped. She went to say something, but she then got a blank look on her face.
"Sarah?" I asked her. She looked around and down at herself.
"Where am I? Why am I in a dress?" She asked shakily. I looked into Bella's room and saw she had her fist clenched tightly. Had she erased her memories?
"Who're you?" Sarah asked me.
"A friend from school. You passed out at the dance, so we brought you here. You're going to be okay." I told her. She handed me my jacket she had on and walked off. So that's why Bella didn't like her. She knew this would happen, what kind of person Sarah was. I sighed and walked into the room.
"Where's Sarah?" Mother asked me.
"Gone. Bella erased her memories." I said sitting on Bella's right side. I unclenched her fist and held her hand.
"How did she do that?" Tyler asked.
"I'm not sure." I said shaking my head. An hour later, Reid, Tyler and myself walked into Pogue's room. He was sitting up now.
"When can I leave?" He asked sighing. I smirked and I sat down in the chair beside his bed.
"You can go home in a couple of days. Doc says your injuries are healing quicker than normal." Reid said leaning on the end of the bed. He looked around and his eyes landed on Tyler.
"What? What's wrong?" Pogue asked. Then he noticed someone missing.
"Where is she? Where's Bella?" He asked.
"Pogue. Chase is gone. He was destroyed in the barn fire that happened last night. Chase. He, uh. He hurt Bella pretty bad last night. She's down the hall in a room." I said softly.
"What? How could? How could you have let her go and fight him, Caleb?" He snapped at me.
"I told her to stay away. She came on her own will. I told her no but she told me to get Sarah and get out. She would hold him off. She sacrificed herself for us." I told him.
"I would say make her listen, she's your sister but it's Bella. She doesn't even listen to anyone." He said shaking his head. He sniffled and looked down.
"Is she going to be okay?" He asked.
"We think so. But she's in a coma right now, and we're not sure when she'll wake up." Tyler said. He nodded.
"Kates awake. She should be going home soon. We can bring her by here to see you." I offered.
"Umm not yet. She and I probably need some space, right now anyways. I'll try talking to her in a couple of days." He said nodding. We nodded. I went to see Kate and she was freaking out. I got her calmed down, and her memory of Sarah was gone. Back in Bella's room, flowers showed up daily from Aaron Abbott. He dropped by too and sat with Bella some too. I didn't like him being around her. 4 months passed. Bella was healed but she hadn't woken up yet. School was weird, Sarah had transferred out because she didn't know who she was or where she was. I was sitting by Bella's bedside reading her, her favorite book, Pride and Prejudice.
"Caleb." Someone whispered. I looked up expecting someone at the door but no one was there.
"Caleb." It came out more hoarsely. I looked at Bella and she was moving around. I dropped the book from sitting up so fast.
"Hey. Hi, baby girl." I whispered to her.
"He. Caleb. Chase, he." She mumbled. She groaned as she tried sitting up.
"Hey, easy. Chase is gone, baby girl. He's gone." I told her.
"No. He." She mumbled. She sighed and tried sitting up again. I gently pushed her back down.
"Hey, take it easy. Let me get your doctor, okay?" I told her. She grabbed my arm as I stood up. For someone who was in a coma with no movement, she was stronger than normal. Stronger than she was before the coma.
"Caleb, please." She said shakily. She looked terrified. I sat back down and grabbed her hand.
"Bells?" I asked. Tears sprung in her eyes.
"He gave up. He gave up his power. He gave them to me." She cried.
"What're you talking about?" I asked. She gripped my hand and flashed her eyes. She took me back to my birthday. I saw it flash in Chase's eyes when my power ball got bigger. He knew it was over.
"I will you my power." I heard Chase mumble.
"No." I heard Bella gasp. She screamed in pain and collapsed on the ground. I blinked as I came out of it. I looked at her, confused.
"How did you do that?" I asked her.
"It was one of his powers. Caleb, I don't want to end up like him. Please, I don't." She said shaking her head. I shook my head and leaned over and kissed her head.
"Hey. It's okay. I won't let anything happen to you. I won't let you lose control. I promise." I told her. She sniffled as I got on the bed and hugged her close. She soon fell back asleep. A few hours later the elders and the guys were here. We stood outside her door.
"He gave up his powers to her. So, she's got hers, his, and his dads." I told them.
"How does she know?" Pogue's dad asked.
"She showed me. She showed me, him willing her his power. He knew he was done when dad gave me his. She hasn't been able to show memories or visions like this before." I explained.
"Or erase minds from inside the room." Reid added.
"Maybe she had another power surge while she was out." Tyler said shrugging.
"No. The hospital wouldn't be standing if Isabella had gone through one. Her powers are far too great for it." Tyler's dad said shaking his head.
"If she's got Chase's dads, his and her powers, will she lose control?" I asked them.
"We won't know for sure until she's out of here and back home." Reid's dad said.
"Which won't be for another couple of days." I said rubbing my face.
"We can talk to the doctor about letting her go home today." Pogue's dad said nodding. I shook my head no.
"I've tried. They want to run a brain scan on her. She's woken up several times, screaming and crying, fighting the nurses. Could be PTSD but they just want to be sure there's nothing there." I said crossing my arms.
"She's just reliving the most painful night of her life. We take her home and she gets better. She does it with every nightmare she has. There's nothing wrong with her. Tell them that." Pogue snapped. He walked into Bella's room and got onto the bed with her. She instantly curled into him. It had always been Bella and Pogue. Ever since we were little it was always them together. Then they dated, then Kate came along. But even after Kate and Pogue got together it was still Bella and Pogue.
"Let the doctors do their tests, then we take her home. Today." Pogue's dad said nodding. They walked off then. We walked into Bella's room and sat with her. Once they cleared her, we took her home, where it was all normal for us. Bella was in control of her powers, we were all graduating in a few months, and it was good. She was safe now. We were all safe.
