Chapter 16
"It's my turn, let's hope this doesn't take too long," Lynn said, taking off her jacket and leaving everything on the seat. She congratulated Clyde when she passed by him and made her way to the gym leader. Clyde meanwhile grabbed his items and took her seat to sit beside Ronnie Anne.
"You did awesome out there Clyde" the dark haired girl said, giving him a slap on the back. "I thought that Poliwag was going to thrash Milcery, but she managed to win."
"Yeah, this match made me realize something" the young boy said, while looking at his new badge. While they talked, Misty went to get the proper Pokemon while Lynn took her proper position. "Milcery's needs more diverse attacks, Dazzling Gleam and Tackle are good but we'll need more. I can't rely on those and Sweet Kiss to win all my battles. I'll need to talk to Lynn to see if she can help me."
"Yeah that's a good idea" Ronnie Anne commented, thinking about what she just heard. "Houndour and Poochyena have limited moves as well, maybe I should do the same. Plus I need to train with Nidorina's new move."
Misty came back and took her place, the smirk never leaving her face. "This is an official match between Misty of the Cerulean City Gym and Lynn Loud Junior from Royal Woods." The referee's voice was loud, clear, and echoed throughout the building. "Both trainers will be able to use three Pokemon, with only the challenger being able to switch out Pokemon. The battle is over when all of someone's Pokemon is unable to battle or one forfeits. The match begins now."
"I made your match have one more Pokemon than theirs, I hope you don't mind?" The younger asked with the same smirk.
"Not at all," Lynn replied with a smirk of her own.
"You're up first Starmie" Misty shouted, releasing her Pokemon. It looked like another Staryu except this one was purple and looked like 2 were fused together.
"Then I start with Grapploct" Lynn shouted, releasing a blue and yellow bipedal octopus. "Use Brutal Swing on it!" Grapploct jumped into the water and started to swim towards his opponent.
"Use Psybeam and if it gets too close, then use Psychic on it!" Misty shouted, knowing she can't use the water to advantage against this opponent. The Mysterious Pokemon stone glowed brightly before firing a multicolored beam. Unfortunately for it, Grapploct was easily able to avoid the blasts in the water. Just when it was getting ready to use Psychic, its opponent started circling it.
"Time to turn things up" Lynn said, confusing the young redhead. "Grapploct, take the battle into the water!" The Tantrum Pokemon then went beneath the water, only to reappear when he flipped the platform Starmie was on. The action surprised both Starmie and its trainer. "Now use Sucker Punch followed with Brutal Swing!" While both Pokemon and trainer regained their senses, Grapploct punched Starmie before hitting it with violent swings of its body.
"Use Psychic and send it out of the water!" Misty shouted. Starmie stone glowed and Grapploct's body started to glow faintly, before being sent flying out of the water. "Now use Psybeam to end this battle!" The Mysterious Pokemon emerged from the water and fire Psybeam.
"Use Protect and then Giga Impact!" The older challenger ordered. A translucent barrier surrounded Grapploct, blocking the Psybeam, and then started falling at an increased rate with energy surrounding its body.
"Use Reflect and hide beneath the water!" The young gym shouted worry. A translucent colored barrier appeared in front of Starmie as it started to submerge. It only made it halfway into the water before Grapploct crashed into the barrier and shattered it, before doing the same for Starmie. The impact was so strong that it created waves strong enough to flip the platforms that both trainers were standing on. After a few seconds of nothing and the trainers climbing back onto the platforms, Grapploct jumped out of the water and onto a platform, while Starmie was floating to the surface not moving.
"Starmie is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Grapploct." Grapploct started to flex while Lynn let out a small cheer, slightly annoyed at her unplanned swim she just had. Misty on the other hand stood in shock that Giga Impact did that much damage, before calling back Starmie.
"Alright that surprised me" the young red head commented, the smirk back on her face. "However it won't be so easy this time, go Kingra" the Pokemon that was released looked like a large blue seahorse.
Upon seeing the Pokemon, Lynn knew this one was going to be trickier. "You did well Grapploct, time for a rest" she said as called him back his pokeball. "Alright, it's your turn Kommo-o" throwing out an ultra ball. The Pokemon that was released was a tall gray dragon that looked like it was wearing armor. The Pokemon let out a loud roar at being free.
"Why did she switch out Grapploct?" Ronnie Anne wondered. She looked over to her friend for an answer, only to see him looking away from the battlefield with a large blush. "Clyde, why are you looking away?"
"Well it's not right for me to look at them right now" the boy answered nervously. The young girl was confused at the statement and took a closer look at the 2 trainers and realized what he was talking about, with a slight blush appearing on her face. Since Lynn was only wearing her track pants and white sleeveless shirt, her falling in the water made her white shirt see-through, showing her red bra underneath. As for Misty, the same thing happened to her revealing her blue bikini top under her shirt. "As for why she switched, it's probably because Kingdra is a Water and Dragon Type. Dragon Types are rumored stronger than many other types, but harder to train and control for trainers. Grapploct was only a Fighting Type and might not have anything to combat against it."
"You need to watch and get over your embarrassment McBride" Lynn shouted, hearing their conversation. Misty meanwhile was giggling at the boy's innocence and gentlemanly attitude. "You may have to battle trainers in skimpier, sexier, or more revealing outfits in the future. How are you going to battle if you can't even look at the battlefield." Clyde hesitatingly nodded and looked to the match, with Ronnie Anne happy that she wore dark colored clothing.
"Well let's get started then, Kingdra hide in the water!" Misty shouted with a smirk, thinking she can utilize the water to advantage. Kingdra wasted no time and dived into the waters depths.
"Sorry but that trick won't work on me" Lynn said with a smirk of her own. "Kommo-o use Thunder Punch on the water!" This causes both younger trainers and gym leader eyes to widen, not expecting this. One of Kommo-o's fists surged with electricity, before he put it into the water. The electricity spread throughout the water immediately, lighting up the pool. Not too long after, Kingdra hopped out of the water in pain and landed on a platform. "Now to stop this game of hide and seek, use Ice Punch to freeze the surface of the pool!" Kommo-o fist them was covered with frost and mist, before hitting the water. Upon contact with the water, the surface of the pool became ice holding the platforms in place.
"This is impossible!?" Misty screamed in total confusion and awe. "Ice Punch should only affect the surrounding area of where it hits!"
"Well me and Kommo-o trained his Ice Punch harder then most trainers" Lynn replied with a smug smile. "We made it so it can affect a wider area then it normally would, same for a few other moves he knows. But now you can't hide in the water anymore, so Kommo-o use Dragon Claw!" The Scaly Pokemon's hands glowed and started running across the ice.
"Kingdra use Dragon Breathe!" Misty ordered, seeing the large dragon Pokemon barreling towards them. Kingdra then exhales a gust of colorfully air towards Kommo-o. The attack hit its target, but Kommo-o continued charging forward as if it was nothing. The Scaly Pokemon eventually got close enough and slashed it, sending it flying across the frozen battlefield.
"Finish it with Clanging Scales!" Lynn shouted. Kommo-o then started rubbing his scales and emitting a loud noise, the noise seemed to hurt Kingdra.
"Use Draco Meteor to defeat it before the noise knocks you out!" The young gym leader screamed, while covering her ears. Kingdra created a bright glowing orb in front of its mouth, before launching it high into the sky. Once it reached its highest point the orb exploded, shooting small energy meteors at Kommo-o. Each one hits the Scaly Pokemon causing explosions around him and the noise stops. Both Kingdra and its trainer let out a sigh of relief, believing they won the battle, before they heard the noise again. When the smoke cleared, Kommo-o was battered, tired, and on one knee, but still using Clanging Scales. "Use Dragon Pulse to finish Kingdra!" The Dragon Pokemon started charging an orb of energy in front of its mouth, but it faded due to it fainting.
"Kingdra is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Kommo-o." Kommo-o let out a tired but prideful roar, and Lynn was giving him her thanks for his hard work. Ronnie Anne and Clyde were cheering, while Misty stood in awe at what just happened. She knew this wasn't going to be a simple battle, but she didn't think her opponent would freeze the top of the pool with Ice Punch. "You did an awesome job and deserve a rest" the red loving trainer said recalling Kommo-o.
"Well it's not over yet" Misty commented, snapping back to reality. "Come out Gyarados," what came out was a huge snake-like serpent that had a large mouth.
"It's your turn Ace" Lynn called out, releasing a familiar Wrestling Pokemon standing in a heroic pose.
"Is that Lincoln's Hawlucha?!" Ronnie Anne asked in shock and disbelief.
"It is! That's Ace Savvy!" Clyde answered with equal shock and disbelief. "Why does Lynn have him now?"
"Linc gave him to me a little over a year ago" Lynn answered her 2 students. "Ace loved hanging around my Pokemon and worked well with many of my team members. So he gave him to me so Ace would be happy."
"As nice of a story that is, we're still in a match" the young redhead said, gaining everyone's attention. "Gyarados use Thrash!" The Atrocious Pokemon then charged towards Ace, thrashing everything in its path.
"Avoid the attack by flying above the field" Lynn commanded. Ace took flight and narrowly missed the attack. As Gyarados thrashed around the battlefield, it broke and shattered pieces of the ice revealing bits of water underneath. Both trainers fell and tried to stay on their platforms while this was going on. When the large Water and Flying Pokemon finally stopped, it looked around confused.
"Quick Ace use Sky Attack while it's confused," the Loud girl shouted in urgency. Ace's body glowed for a few seconds before soaring towards Gyarados, looking like a flaming bird. Misty yelled for it to move, unfortunately due to the confusion it stayed in place. The attack hit it on the head, sending it crashing down onto the ice and being partly in the water. Ace retreated back into the sky, while Gyarados rose back up with the confusion gone.
"Alright I'm ending this!" Misty muttered through gritted teeth. This match was starting to infuriate her with how it was going. Sure she knew Lynn wasn't a rookie, but she wasn't expecting to look like an amateur by her challenger. "Gyarados use Hyper-" she stopped herself from finishing that sentence when she saw where Ace was positioned.
"Might want to rethink that" Lynn told her with a smirk. "If you use that it will most likely destroy the roof, that might mean you won't be able to host any of the shows here due to the dangers." Misty let out a growl, knowing her opponent was right. This is why she wanted her own building instead of sharing one with her older sisters. She would never hear the end of it if she did something to the building that prevented them from doing their shows. "Since you won't attack I will, Ace use Close Combat!" Ace dove down towards Gyarados with no hesitation.
"Let it get close and then use Ice Fang on it!" The young gym leader shouted with a snarl. Ace got close to its head and started to punch and kick, not doing that much damage. Due to Close Combat, it left Ace defenseless and allowed Gyarados to bite it with its frozen and mist-covered mouth. It grabbed a hold of his wing and started to swing him from side to side, before throwing him down onto a piece of floating ice below. "Now finish it with Hyper Beam!"
"I was planning to finish this without using type advantage…" Lynn said seeing Gyarados charging up its attack. "...But I want Ace to win. Ace use Thunder Punch on the water." Misty eyes widened at hearing that, not expecting Ace to know that move as well. Seeing Gyarados in the water and Ace's Thunder Punch ready, she knew what was going to happen. The second the attack hit the water, Gyarados was hit with electricity and broke its focus on the Hyper Beam. Soon enough it was too much and Gyarados fainted and crashed onto the battlefield.
"Gyarados is unable to battle" the referee announced while holding his hand on Lynn's side up in the air. "Hawlucha is the winner and Lynn Loud has won the match." Ace flew to Lynn and made a heroic pose while Lynn thanked him while patting his head, both of her students were standing and cheering, while Misty fell to her knees with a look of disbelief. The referee eventually snapped her out of it and she made her way to her opponent.
"That was an amazing match" the younger girl said with a pleasant tone and forced smile. Sure she lost before to strong trainers, but this was the first time she lost without taking out a single one of her opponent's Pokemon. "You and your Pokemon certainly gave me a challenge. So as proof of your victory, I'm proud to give you the Cascade Badge." She then pulled out a water drop badge from her pocket and gave it to the smug older girl.
"Thanks" Lynn simply said, taking the badge and putting it in her pocket. Ronnie Anne and Clyde came from the stands and gave their mentor her things. A staff member offered Lynn a towel, which she refused. After getting her things on, the 3 trainers headed for the exit with Misty joining them.
"So where's your next destination?" Misty asked.
"Saffron City, it is the closest place that has a gym" Lynn replied.
"That means your next opponent will be Sabrina," the young gym leader commented with a slight bit of fear. "You're in for a tough battle, she goes all out on all her challengers regardless how experienced they are."
"Thanks for the advice, but we got this right Clyde?" Ronnie Anne asked in a prideful tone.
"I don't think we're ready right at this moment" Clyde replied nervously, remembering how Sabrina acted. "We'll need to train hard for our upcoming match." He then started walking out of the gym.
"Yeah yeah I know" the young female trainer said with an eye roll, follow him.
Misty turned around to go help the staff when she felt a hand on her shoulder. "Hold on for a minute, there's something I need to ask you" Lynn said in a monotone voice. The younger girl turned around to see Lynn's cold glare was shadowed, but her eyes were piercing through the darkness to be seen. "Why did you go easy on Clyde?" The older girl's voice was ice laced with venom. Lynn wanted her students to get the full experience, that included losses. If any gym leader went easy on either one of them, she wanted to know the reason.
"Why did I go easy on him?" Misty asked innocently, before a smile appeared on her face. "Because this is his first time and he's cute!" Lynn's glare quickly changed to a dumbfounded expression. She had expected a few reasons, but that wasn't one of them. "It's not like I go easy on all first timers, just the nice and cute or handsome ones. Plus he still has a little bit of his innocence, I mean you saw how he looked away when our clothing got wet." As the red head prattled on, Lynn was mentally kicking herself for believing there was a serious reason why she went easy on him. "So I gave him my number, tell him the next he's in Cerulean City to give me a call alright."
Misty gave Lynn a wave and walked further into the building, leaving the dumbfounded trainer standing there. Lynn eventually shook her head and decided to forget the whole conversation she just had and join her students.
