A/N: Snuffles was meant to be a one shot but my muse sternly reminded me that Harry wasn't the only one who's grieving for Sirius. Did you ever wonder why Hermione was so insightful about Sirius in general and especially his relationship with Harry? Was Ron the only one that noticed Hermione chattering on and on about Harry? Remember if you save a wizard's life; they are in your debt.

Dear Sirius,

Harry and I

We saved you together -

Now we have jointly lost you.

As I think back to the summer before fifth year

I remember you yearning for him

Because you had been alone too long.

As well as having shared so little time with just Harry.

And I? I often reflected and chattered on to you

Upon my dearest friend.

Harry has suffered more than most mortals can sanely abide:

And yet even through everything fate has tossed his way:

Harry has remained loyal, compassionate and most of all brave.

At the end of fourth year we both worried over how

The Tri-Wizard tournament's end would affect Harry;

Because death always changes those left behind.

And you, Sirius could definitely testify to that truth.

You knew, didn't you Sirius?

Somehow you sensed what I had just barely begun to comprehend;

That my heart had been given long ago.

I believe that was why

You shared with me; during those long lonely weeks

Before his arrival at 12 Grimmald Place,

Your recollections about Lily, James, and Harry -

Together; as a family.

I'll always regret that it won't be you who passes

Those happy memories onwards.

I'll do my best, but it won't be the same.

Once upon a time you cheated the Grim.

Nay, you defied death.

Sadly for Harry, Remus, and I

The Grim caught you at last.

You paid your wizard's debt.

Now that it will be a long time (hopefully)

Until I see your face again;

I renew the vow I willingly made

On a summer night long past.

This I promised you.

Come what may,

Despite the whims of destiny and fate,

Regardless of Harry himself,

I will always stand by his side.

With my love,

Hermione
