A/N: I'd like to thank Tina for not replacing her clock battery and for having a light with an occasional flicker.

Disclaimer: I don't own it. No sueage, please. :)

Metaphorically Speaking

I stare at the light on the ceiling and get lost in thought. If you look at a light for a split second while it is flickering, it appears to be out, or the bulb seems to have blown. But if you keep an eye on the light until the flicker has ceased, you will see that it is just fine. It will continue to glow and dump light where there could very well be darkness.

My broken clock keeps ticking, but the second it's on is always the same. Look at the clock for just one second and it appears to be fine. The hand moves, and it seems to be in that normal pattern that clocks follow. But you have to stick around and watch the clock a little longer to discover its true workings. The hand moves back and traces that second again, over and over, and you realize that it's just not quite right.

Some people don't understand how hard it really is to play golf. For someone with my skill level, golf really is quite a chore. I swing at the ball, with all the best intentions, but the ball goes a complete different direction than it should, or my swing fails to hit the ball at all. But you never really know until you try whether you will be able to hit the ball, to make it go sailing through the air, to make it roll into the hole.

A heart truly is an amazing thing. It's a strong and powerful muscle, but you still have to be careful. Even with care, there may be bumps along the road, little scares that come just from living. But if a heart is mistreated, a heart attack can hit. Everything is turned upside down, and the world becomes a completely different place. That's the hardest lesson to learn.
